Beautiful June hit the jackpot! She was adopted today by a lovely family with a lot of dog experience, great kids, and a dog ready to show June the ropes. She is going to learn about going on daily walks, dog-friendly neighbors, and having kids to share adventures with. Way to go June!

June's just a sweetheart, a gentle sweetheart. Although she is still easily frightened by strange and sudden noises, she has almost stopped pacing entirely. She takes her treats gently—amazingly so—and waits in line with the rest of our dogs to see what surprises we have to share in the treat cabinet.

She's learned a lot from the dogs in our house, but today was special. We have a very scared visiting dog, and June got to be this dog's buddy. June is perfect for the task and settled in close by the visitor but gave her enough space to be comfortable.

It was beautiful to see. June, a dog who was so easily frightened a month ago, is now the comfort dog for this visitor.

And on top of that, this week June showed us that she's mastered the famous Golden Retriever nudge. That nudge that seems a part of almost every Golden Retriever—the nudge that says "pet me," or perhaps "share that treat with me"—June finally nudged!

We think that June is ready to find her forever family. She has a lot of confidence-building yet to do, but a family who is experienced with dogs like June could step in and help her now.

June absolutely must have another confident buddy dog; she still counts on our other dogs to help her when there's something new. But maybe you have a confident dog in a dog-friendly house and you're interested in helping and loving this sweet girl?

Seeing her run towards you to be petted and loved is a huge reward, she's a sweetheart through and through.

We couldn't be any happier with the progress sweet June (Joonie) is making. She is a very smart, observant girl and has several accomplishments to share:

  1. For better or for worse, she's learned to jump up on the bed. She watched the other dogs do it and she gave it a try. It wasn't elegant but she did it! She prefers to sleep on a dog bed though and has claimed one as her own.
  2. She has learned the absolute joy of going for a ride in the car and lines up with the rest of our dogs to make sure she's included. She rides well in the car, settles in and really doesn't move.
  3. She had another sleepover with her buddy Clover this weekend and they have a friendship that is great to see. June gets along with all of our dogs, but there's something special about her friendship with Clover. They bring out the best in each other.
  4. June now has a "virtual" kennel: we put a folded blanket where her kennel used to be and that's where she goes for quiet time.
  5. June has not had any accidents in the house for a while, but to make sure she's successful we always let her stay outside long enough to do what she needs to do.
  6. June is slowly gaining weight but you can still tell that she needs to put a few more pounds on her slender frame. Her coat has softened and she is a light beige with more golden markings on her muzzle and along her back. She's a very pretty girl and very sweet.

June is still a bit tentative but warmed up quickly to the company we had last week. She's cautious, doesn't run and jump up on people. She takes her time to make sure that all is well. She is also still somewhat easily frightened - certainly she's better than when she first arrived in our household but she still needs just a bit more time to settle in.

We think she'll be ready to consider adoption in another 2 weeks. The ideal home would be a family who has had previous experience with a dog and is patient with her as she continues to build faith and trust that the world is a safe place. She is very gentle who will be ready for her forever home very soon.

One week can make such a big difference in a dog's life! The first week that June (Joonie) was with us, she spent most of that time figuring out the household routine and getting to know her new dog buddies. This week was wonderful -- she's building more trust and starting to relax.

We had dog company this weekend, and she really hit it off with the lovely Golden Retriever guest. They were instantly best friends and played hard, ran big circles in the yard, shared toys, and invented all sorts of games together. It was great to see June really enjoy herself and show us how playful she can be.

June's new dog buddy also showed her the joys of sleeping on a dog bed. We had thought that June would easily transition to a dog bed this week, but she really wasn't having anything to do with the idea. But her new best friend showed her the joys of napping on your own dog bed and June instantly took to it.

The picture we've included shows her first attempt at conquering the dog bed, she's not exactly comfortable but she ultimately made friends with it!

At this point, we've stored her kennel as she has free roam of the house when we're away and sleeps on a dog bed at night. She's had no accidents in the house this week at all.

She's enjoyed being outside, playing as my husband does the early-spring gardening chores. Along with our resident dogs, she's enjoyed all the new mulch in the garden beds and joined the other dogs in chewing her fair share of the stuff. It's a rite of spring at our house.

We think June has gained a bit of weight and her coat feels so much nicer now. She's even growing a bit more fur on her tail. She is still gentle, but now we know she's playful and is adept at playing chase -- she's got some pretty fancy footwork and strategic moves!

We're going to give June a bit more time to continue to blossom, so please check back. She's healthy and only needs a bit more time before she'll be ready for her forever family.

We are so happy to welcome lovely June (Joonie) into the RAGOM family. June is a gentle 5-year-old Goldendoodle who was picked up as a stray by a good Samaritan and then made her way into our family to rest up, gain a bit of weight, and find her forever home. Here's what we've learned about June in the week that she's been with us:

  • She is happy and absolutely loves to be petted.
  • She recently had puppies but has been spayed now.
  • She is very gentle, has good house manners, and loves a good chew toy.
  • She kennels at night, but we are going to transition her to a dog bed and are pretty confident that she's going to enjoy that a lot!
  • She is on the thin side, and the vet would like to see her gain 8 to 10 pounds. She has a good appetite and this should be an easy goal for her to achieve.
  • She is current on her shots and tested negative for heartworm.

We are going to give June a few weeks to settle in and continue to build her confidence. She learns quickly by watching what's going on in the household and following the lead of our resident dogs.

June is a sweetheart, rides well in the car and seems to take everything in stride. When she's nervous or uncertain, she paces but that is decreasing even in the short time she's been here. She was good at the vet and liked the attention she received from the staff there.

She's such a good girl with a bright future ahead of her.
