Apollo found his forever home today. He will be a very happy dog who will be a best friend for a master gardener with a huge backyard.

Apollo has been in foster care for a week now and he is doing so well. Apollo craves structure and someone to help him with his confidence. He is very sweet and wonderful. He is a prototyical Golden - happy, goofy, a little clumsy, and loves to put multiple slobbery balls in my lap when he thinks it is time to play.
He walks well on a Gentle Leader and loves to go on walks. He is a little nervous in the car, but settles quickly.
He is potty trained and will crate (he just needs a Kong with peanut butter to take his mind off my leaving). He is a Velcro dog and seems to prefer men. Wherever the people are, that is where Apollo is. He sleeps either in the bed with me or on the floor next to me.
He gets along well with my dog, but seems to be a little nervous about playing. I am sure in a few more days, he will feel comfortable playing.
It sounds like Apollo had an incident with a small dog a year ago, so a home with no small animals is probably the best bet.
Apollo is not a fan of small children, and he does not enjoy big hugs or being manhandled. He does like to play tug-of-war and is very respectful not to accidentally bite me.
Apollo cannot be placed with small children and should be adopted by a family with dog experience - someone who can watch his body language and help him when he is feeling insecure.
Little things worry him, like when I put a screen near the door, which made him wary of the door. He scooted through a few times until I convinced him it was OK. When I accidentally opened the door too quickly, it banged the wall and he jumped a mile. Nothing major, but he just needed me to assure him everything was OK still.
Apollo probably needs to lose 5 lbs to be in tip-top shape. He is a stocky 85 lbs. He has a beautiful red coat, a big blocky head, and a very soft mouth (which can fit 2 slobbery balls at a time). We love him!
