Ranier has been adopted to a new home with two loving owners, where he will get all the attention! He has had quite the journey in the past 3 months, from the streets of Turkey to his final destination in Minnesota. He has been such a joy and we are so happy he has found a perfect family.

Rainier has now completed his chemo treatments successfully. He is able to be around other dogs, with caution to avoid excessive licking/sniffing in the affected area. He has his last follow up appointment in a few weeks.
He continues to be as active as ever. It has been a joy to see his progress since he came to us almost 3 months ago. He was pretty guarded at first, and I’m sure very confused as to the life he had in Turkey, to the safe, loving environment he is in now.
His is still a work in progress learning commands and general obedience. His forever home will need to have the time for this, as well as the energy to keep him active.
He’s still young—he wants to play and run! His record for fetching his ball and bringing it back is 10 times. He seems to have the energy to go much longer, but his attention span is that of a 2-year-old pup!
Because Rainier was being treated for his tumor since the week he came to us, we haven’t been able to test him with other dogs or cats. I do know that when we have gone for walks and other dogs have approached us, he seems just fine and not aggressive at all. But that is the only experience we have had.
Rainier is now available to start finding his forever home. Once he has his last appointment the end of this month, we will know more about when that is.

Rainier was found wandering the city of Bursa in Turkey. A rescuer brought him to a shelter where he stayed for about five months before arriving in the U.S. and eventually our home. He has been with us for a month now, and we feel like he is a different dog.
The first few days he was very guarded with his food, and basically inhaled it. Once he realized he was getting food every day and only he would be eating it, he started taking his time eating and now will even leave some in the bowl for later.
We brought him for his vet visit within the first week. I mentioned to the doctor that I noticed him licking himself quite a bit and would see light drops of urine and blood spots. After examination he was found to have a transmissible venereal tumor.
It’s a very treatable, noncancerous tumor, and he has had three rounds of weekly chemotherapy so far and hoping for just a few more to go. Once complete, the tumor should be gone and not an issue anymore. Rainier will be available for adoption when he completes his treatments.
Rainier is your typical young Golden who loves to be active. We go on daily walks and we are working on his "walking speed." He has learned basic commands now in English: sit, shake.
He wants to be right next to or preferably touching someone wherever you go. He is definitely a charmer. Every time I pick him up from his vet visits, the staff comments on what a sweet dog he is and how he loves attention.
His favorite thing to do is go for car rides. Almost every time when we put the leash on to get ready to go for a walk, he pulls to get near the car and wants to go for a ride instead of a walk. He will just lay down by the car too, hoping he gets to go somewhere.
Rainier would flourish in a home where there is time to spend with him. While at work we keep him in our enclosed mud room. He sleeps great in there at night, but if he's left too long in the day he starts getting bored and finds things to do like chew on shoelaces, or whatever is around.
A fenced yard where he could run and play would be ideal. He is a barker when he looks out our patio door and sees deer, wild turkeys or the neighbor dog, so I could see him probably chasing after them if not fenced in.
Check back for more updates as we continue to get to know Rainier.
