Lily, now known as Dakota, hit the jackpot with her new family.

Besides a mom and dad, she will have an older four-legged LabraDoodle sister and also a two-legged older sister. Mom is home most of the time so Dakota will have her around to help her settle into her new home.

Lily was a hard one to let go but she will continue to blossom into a confident dog by following her new fur-sister. Love and miss you pretty girl!

Lily has easily adjusted to living in a home instead of a kennel. In the beginning she spent most of the time watching us from her crate. I always had the door open while I was home and would close it at night or when I was gone. After she proved that she could be trusted with free roam, I always left the crate door open.

Now she always sleeps on one of the dog beds in the living room instead of in the crate. If someone comes to the door, she will go into the crate as her safe spot.

Even though my dogs sleep on the couch, Lily has never tried getting onto the furniture. She has always followed my dogs wherever we go, so she definitely needs another medium to large dog in her furever home.

During her first few weeks here, she always followed my dogs outside, but always looked to make sure I was in sight too. The wide-open yard is always scary for these former breeder dogs because there is no place to hide. Now she goes out, does her business, then explores the yard without needing me out there with her. Baby steps every day!

Lily will be spayed on Wed. 10/17 and have the sebaceous cyst removed from her tail. We had to wait a month after her heat cycle was done before having her spayed. Then she will be ready for her furever home, which is good because she is really settling into our home.

Lily has always loved toys. I had to remove the soft plush toys because she started eating them after destuffing them and I didn’t want to have her get an obstruction.

She now takes treats from my fingers, too. At first, she would look away when I offered one, then look to see if I dropped it for her which I would do in the beginning. Eventually I would get her to lick it before I would drop it and finally she learned to take it from my fingers. Now I am teaching her to come to me to get it. I love this girl!!

If you have a medium- to large-size confident resident dog that Lily could follow and continue to learn from, and think that she would be a great match for your family, please submit an "Inquiry for Application" form. She will need a home where she can learn at her own pace with a lot of patience.

Please welcome Lily 18-159, a very sweet 5-year-old Goldendoodle.

Lily was surrendered by a commercial breeder who has surrendered many of his retired breeding mamas to us when the dogs turn 5 or 6 years old. She is tall and weighs 69 pounds and according to the vet should gain about 6 more pounds.

She received her shots so she is up to date and has started on the heartworm preventative and flea/tick meds. Both of her ears were really dirty and infected so we cleaned them out and got drops for them.

When I picked Lily up, the transporter showed me a lump on her tail. The vet said it is a sebaceous cyst which doesn’t hurt, but could continue to grow. I have to find out if RAGOM will have that removed.

Lily was in heat when she arrived, so we have to wait to have her spayed. She is no longer in heat, so I brought her to be groomed last week.

Since Lily lived her life in her kennel, she feels safer in the house in the kennel. She met my resident dogs with no problem and started to follow them right away. She will need a large-size, confident dog in her forever home.

Lily still doesn’t like going outside, even if my dogs are going out.  If I know she has to go potty, I will bring her out on a leash. Outside she will do her business but always wants to get back into the house. She has never had an accident in the house!

The first day she was here, she wasn’t sure if the kennel was for her so she found her safe spot behind the couch.

It took a few days before she would venture out of the kennel to check things out. Once she felt safe, she would find a toy and bring it back to the kennel.

She started coming to me when I sat on the couch but stayed about a foot away. I’d put my hand out, palm up, so she could sniff my hand. Slowly I started to rub her ear and that brought her closer to me. Eventually she walked right up to me and stood there as long as I was petting her or rubbing her ears.

I hadn’t heard Lily bark until my son stopped in to see her. She started howling at him until he kneeled down to her level. She stopped barking right away and walked over to sniff him when he started talking to her.

One thing that Lily doesn’t like yet is a car ride. Every time that I have had her in my car, she has thrown up. I don’t know if it is because she is afraid or if it is from the motion. We will work on that.
