Maisie was surrendered to us by a commercial breeder because she quit producing puppies. She is a small, 8-year-old, reddish-colored Goldendoodle. She only weighs 46 pounds, so she needs to gain some weight. She is up to date on her shots and has been spayed. She still needs to be groomed.

When she first came into RAGOM, she was fostered in a home with young children, and both parents worked. She was great with the kids and their dog, but must have been bored one day because when they came home, they found that she had eaten a leash and part of a leather shoe.

She couldn’t pass the foreign objects, so she had to have surgery to remove them from her colon. The vet spayed her at the same time. Maisie was on a special soft diet while she healed.

Her foster mom was worried about Maisie eating socks or toys that their youngest child might drop, so she looked for a new foster home for her. I took her in because I am retired and am home while Maisie recovered from her surgery.

She had her stitches removed, so I slowly started her back on regular dry dog food that was soaked in water. Maisie has a great appetite, and I feed her 3 times a day to help her gain weight. She is a very sweet dog who wants to please.

While at her first foster home, Maisie bonded with her foster mom. She followed her everywhere and never left her side. When Maisie came here, she met my resident dogs with no problem, but wasn’t sure if she should stay by me or follow them.

If I went outside with the dogs, Maisie stopped what she was doing and came right to me. She wouldn’t take the time to go potty, so I had to stop going out with them until I knew she had gone potty already. One night, Maisie did poop in the house in front of the back door because she didn’t know how to tell me that she had to go out.           

I have left Maisie home with my dogs for up to 5 hours, and she has done fine. She is anxious when I return, but settles down right away. 

Maisie will do best with another medium to large dog in her forever home so she isn’t left home alone. She lived her life alone in a kennel, so I think she enjoys the company of other dogs. She has learned how to jump into the car by following their lead.
