I am so lucky to Foster beautiful Beau! He's a PB Golden, approximately 5 years old and weighs around 81lbs. He's seen the vet and has a clean bill of health, is now up to date on shots and preventatives. The vet noticed he has a scar and a slightly swollen left rear ankle, she believes it's either an injury, perhaps a break, or scar tissue. He shows no sign of it bothering him, and if he hadn't gotten a 'summer' cut, we probably wouldn't have noticed!

Beau has been with me for about a week. At first he exhibited the typical behavior of a displaced dog. He panted, paced, and was not happy when any attention was given to any dog, other than him. He is an alpha male, so would do best with either a female or a non-agressive male. I truly believe that his display of being a bully was more due to the fact that he was very nervous and scared, and misses his sister that he grew up with. He's getting along fine now, with my English Setter who is non-aggressive, after 2 slight altercations, Beau was exhibiting his alpha and now all is well. I will continue to monitor.

I am listing some things about Beau.

  • 1. He knows sit, has good recall for it being so soon, and we are working on stay
  • 2. No counter surfing, food aggression or getting in to the garbage
  • 3. No accidents in the house, completely housebroken
  • 4. Loves his people, likes a lot of attention...does fine with kids....cats are unknown
  • 5. Pulls with a regular collar, we are working on a gentle lead. Beau is very critter motivated. Sits for long periods on my back deck, stalks ground squirrels and bunnies. (No fatalities yet :))
  • 6. Free roam in the house with no destructive behavior! I have left him twice for 5+ hours.
  • 7. Anxious around fireworks, not tested with storms yet
  • 8. Loves his stuffed toys (see photos below....Lambchop was eventually rescued, cleaned up, and brought in the house).

Here are some photos of Beau. Look for further updates in the next week or so!

Please keep in mind, Beau needs careful introduction to some of the new dogs he meets. It may take a few days of close monitoring for them to become comfortable, and would probably do best with a non-alpha dog. If Beau seems like a good fit for your lifestyle and family, please let your placement advisor know.
