I am so lucky to Foster beautiful Beau! He's a PB Golden, approximately 5 years old and weighs around 81lbs. He's seen the vet and has a clean bill of health, is now up to date on shots and preventatives. The vet noticed he has a scar and a slightly swollen left rear ankle, she believes it's either an injury, perhaps a break, or scar tissue. He shows no sign of it bothering him, and if he hadn't gotten a 'summer' cut, we probably wouldn't have noticed!

Beau has been with me for about a week. At first he exhibited the typical behavior of a displaced dog. He panted, paced, and was not happy when any attention was given to any dog, other than him. He is an alpha male, so would do best with either a female or a non-agressive male. I truly believe that his display of being a bully was more due to the fact that he was very nervous and scared, and misses his sister that he grew up with. He's getting along fine now, with my English Setter who is non-aggressive, after 2 slight altercations, Beau was exhibiting his alpha and now all is well. I will continue to monitor.

I am listing some things about Beau.

  • 1. He knows sit, has good recall for it being so soon, and we are working on stay
  • 2. No counter surfing, food aggression or getting in to the garbage
  • 3. No accidents in the house, completely housebroken
  • 4. Loves his people, likes a lot of attention...does fine with kids....cats are unknown
  • 5. Pulls with a regular collar, we are working on a gentle lead. Beau is very critter motivated. Sits for long periods on my back deck, stalks ground squirrels and bunnies. (No fatalities yet :))
  • 6. Free roam in the house with no destructive behavior! I have left him twice for 5+ hours.
  • 7. Anxious around fireworks, not tested with storms yet
  • 8. Loves his stuffed toys (see photos below....Lambchop was eventually rescued, cleaned up, and brought in the house).

Here are some photos of Beau. Look for further updates in the next week or so!

Please keep in mind, Beau needs careful introduction to some of the new dogs he meets. It may take a few days of close monitoring for them to become comfortable, and would probably do best with a non-alpha dog. If Beau seems like a good fit for your lifestyle and family, please let your placement advisor know.

Hello RAGOM!!!

Beau 16-116 here!  Just wanted to stop off and give everyone a quick update on how I'm doing!

We just celebrated my 1 year anniversary of my adoption!  I can't believe how fast that year went and how much life has changed for me over these last 12 months!

Mom and I added a new member to our family!  Her name is Ginger (16-261) and she is my best pal and partner in trouble!  We play all the time, and every so often I'll let her snuggle with me!

Mom has been working from home for the last 6 months which has been awesome, as she takes the time in between conference calls and we practice new tricks!  Mom says I'm such a smart boy... and you know, I think she's right!

It's summertime in MN right now and I've been enjoying the lazy days and laying out on the deck, sunning myself.  And I've also been enjoying our nightly walks through the wooded paths behind the house.

Mom had our yard fenced this spring, so Ginger and I now have all kinds of space to run and chase the brave bunnies that dare to enter our yard!  Talk about fun!  And Ginger's even taught me how to DIG!!!  Mom's not too crazy about that, and I try to keep it to a minimum so I don't get in trouble.... but boy it's FUN!

Mom took a day off last week and she took me shopping for all kinds of new toys and treats for my "adoptiversary".  Mom says it's a very special occasion!!  Ginger went on a play date so I had mom all to myself.  I missed Ginger, but it was nice have ALL of the love and attention on ME!!!   We even stopped for ice cream!!

Life is good, and just keeps getting better every day!

Gotta run before mom finds out I'm using the laptop!

Love and golden hugs

Beau

It’s been six months that I’ve been with my new family and you wouldn’t believe how much my life has changed! Life is SO good these days!!! And mom tells me every day what a smart, handsome and GOOD boy I am!!

The last 6 months haven’t been all sunshine and roses, and wow we’ve come a long way, but I’m happier now that I’ve ever been. I have new kids of my own, and have a few new puppy friends too! And my mom….wow I love her, SO MUCH!!! We went to see a super nice woman called a behavioral veterinarian and she talked to me, and fed me lots of yummy treats. Some of the things that she did made me nervous, but she always had a treat waiting, so it was worth it! She sent mom home with my new “happy pills” and lots of training exercises that have really helped me be so much less afraid of the world.

I got to celebrate my first real Christmas this year! WOW!!! Mom kept talking about someone named “Santa”, but I had no idea until I woke up on Christmas morning to find treats and toys, all wrapped up under the tree. I LIKE CHRISTMAS and can’t wait for Christmas to come again soon!!

Mom has introduced to me to so many new people and places in the last 6 months. We took several very long car rides down to a place called St. Louis, MO. I sat so nicely in the back seat and just smiled. I love the car, and anything that gets me out and exploring the world!!!!!

We live in a place that has to be the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. There are trees everywhere (filled with squirrels and birds) and fields filled with big dogs that mom calls deer! I love to sit for hours and watch the deer, but I’m good and don’t try to chase them. The squirrels and birds are a different story. Mom just laughs at me when I’m super focused on a bird and think I can jump high enough to grab one out of the air!

I even made a few new doggy friends! (HA! I never thought that day would happen, but I love them!!!) I’m still a little nervous when I meet new dogs, but once I’ve had a chance to run around like a muppet and play with them I’m okay. Meeting new dogs on leash is still a bit scary. I have one little girl that I really love, her name is Poppy. She’s a bossy, unruly, playful little 4 month old puppy. She is SO much fun and every so often mom lets her spend the night and we have sleep overs and binge watch Animal Planet (in between rounds of play).

And guess what???? I even get to see my foster mom, Cindy, every so often!!! I miss her you know. But mom sends her love and pictures from me…. And I even hear that she’ll be coming to town soon and I might get to see her again!

I can’t thank you enough to all of the wonderful people (and there are a LOT of you!!) who helped me get out of the icky place I was in and helped me find my way to my new life. You won’t see me go a day without a HUGE smile on my face, and I know deep inside that it’s because you helped me find the BEST forever home I could ever have!!!

Well, I have to run…. There’s a bunny on the loose in the back yard that I’m feeling the need to chase!!

Love you all!

Hello RAGOM!!

This is Melody, Beau 16-116's new forever mom.  It's been a week since Beau joined me on the trip back to MN and he's settling in SO nicely!!

What a sweet, happy boy!  He is truly a joy to have around!  Beau wakes up in the morning SO happy.....with his tail wagging and greets me (nose to nose) with happy good morning snuggles. And let me tell you, what an incredible way to be woken up!!

Beau's had a busy week!!  He met his new Auntie and Uncle, niece and nephew (and even their pups!!) over the weekend and did SO well!!!  And they just fell in love with him (although I think it might be impossible not to fall in love with this happy little guy!).  Beau very quickly has picked up on how to walk like a gentleman on the leash and thoroughly enjoys our daily walks in the woods behind his new house. And he even learned how to ride in the jeep and I do believe that might be his new favorite place!!

We're teaching him how to play. And even how to retrieve. He'll retrieve and even return his stuffies (he's not a ball dog, yet) and today we're going to the store to buy him his very own puppy pool since he appears to really like the water.

He's still a bit apprehensive about other dogs he doesn't know, but the more he's with me and the more comfortable he's getting, the less grumping there is. So I do have hope that with time he'll be less afraid and anxious and be up for meeting new furry friends, but for now we're taking it slow and limiting his exposure to new dogs.

Sunday I head out on a work trip to St Louis and Beau will be joining me!!  In fact he'll be going pretty much everywhere I go! (And I don't think he minds one little bit as he loves the car and seems to look at every ride as a new adventure where he can watch the world as we drive by!). And we can't wait to stop off and see his foster mom, Cindy, on one (or many) of our trips to St Louis (as we will be driving right through her city!!).

When I lost my sweet little RAGOM golden, Barney 10-308, it was difficult to think there would ever be another pup that could fill the spaces in my heart that were left when he crossed the rainbow bridge. But Beau, he's found a way to sneak into my heart and is well on his way to becoming the next great golden love of my life!!  I couldn't have asked for a better companion to start this new chapter of my life with.  I needed him as much as he needed me. And together we will explore and experience the world together, side by side!!

Thank you, for another beautiful connection, and for bringing my sweet boy home to a family that will love him (and spoil him) like he deserves to be loved!!  Welcome home my smiley, silly, and oh so sweet Beau!  Welcome home!!
