Please welcome Chandler 14-292 to RAGOM. Chandler is a 9-year-old male Golden Retriever. He was surrendered because he "wandered" over to a neighbor's with chickens and because of his health issues. His former name was Copper.

Chandler has severe allergies and a spinal injury. His blood work showed a low red blood cell count and that the liver and kidneys were working fine. He is heartworm and Lyme negative. He is now up-to-date on all vaccines and has been microchipped. During his wellness exam, Dr. Jim noticed Chandler had some nerve damage effecting his rear legs and causing his incontinence. Chandler's hip sockets are worn also.

A couple of days later, Chandler got X-rays that confirmed that his hips were bad (shallow sockets) and that he had spinal injury consistent with being hit by a car from behind. His medical records show that he was seen for a "limp" back in 2011. The injury may have taken this long to start causing the incontinence and pain that Chandler is seeing now. Chandler's X-rays have been sent to a veterinary orthopedic surgeon to see if anything can be done to help or fix the problem.

Chandler's allergies are severe. He has been haunted by them since he was young. The steroid medication he was getting no longer worked and he was switched to much more expensive Cyclosporine. Chandler was getting medicated shampoo baths every 3 days for many years. The decision was made to send Chandler to an Allergy Specialist to see if there was anything else that could be done to help. The findings at the specialist was that the Cyclosporine hadn't been in Chandler's system long enough to really start working. The doctor had news that a new allergy medication for dogs is coming out in February that could help Chandler even more. Until then, he will have to be on Cyclosporine, medicated baths twice a week, and a topical spray.

Chandler is a very good dog. He is affectionate and very well-behaved. He has had no problems with any dogs or cats in my pack. He can only walk 1/4 mile before he needs to lay down from the pain. He gets a 1/4-mile walk twice a day. Chandler doesn't go up on the furniture and will only come in the bed if he is asked, but won't stay for very long. He lays on the floor or dog beds usually and close to me. He likes to cuddle with me if I sit or lay on the floor.

RAGOM takes in dogs regardless of their medical needs. Chandler is one of those dogs. His medical bills have exceeded any adoption fee, if he gets adopted. For this reason, I'm asking for extra support for Chandler. His medical bills will continue to be high for the near future. Can you help? RAGOM has many options and ways to sponsor these "special" dogs. We appreciate even the smallest donations. Here [2] is a link to our donation page.

Thanks for checking in on Chandler 14-292.
