Please welcome Chandler 14-292 to RAGOM. Chandler is a 9-year-old male Golden Retriever. He was surrendered because he "wandered" over to a neighbor's with chickens and because of his health issues. His former name was Copper.

Chandler has severe allergies and a spinal injury. His blood work showed a low red blood cell count and that the liver and kidneys were working fine. He is heartworm and Lyme negative. He is now up-to-date on all vaccines and has been microchipped. During his wellness exam, Dr. Jim noticed Chandler had some nerve damage effecting his rear legs and causing his incontinence. Chandler's hip sockets are worn also.

A couple of days later, Chandler got X-rays that confirmed that his hips were bad (shallow sockets) and that he had spinal injury consistent with being hit by a car from behind. His medical records show that he was seen for a "limp" back in 2011. The injury may have taken this long to start causing the incontinence and pain that Chandler is seeing now. Chandler's X-rays have been sent to a veterinary orthopedic surgeon to see if anything can be done to help or fix the problem.

Chandler's allergies are severe. He has been haunted by them since he was young. The steroid medication he was getting no longer worked and he was switched to much more expensive Cyclosporine. Chandler was getting medicated shampoo baths every 3 days for many years. The decision was made to send Chandler to an Allergy Specialist to see if there was anything else that could be done to help. The findings at the specialist was that the Cyclosporine hadn't been in Chandler's system long enough to really start working. The doctor had news that a new allergy medication for dogs is coming out in February that could help Chandler even more. Until then, he will have to be on Cyclosporine, medicated baths twice a week, and a topical spray.

Chandler is a very good dog. He is affectionate and very well-behaved. He has had no problems with any dogs or cats in my pack. He can only walk 1/4 mile before he needs to lay down from the pain. He gets a 1/4-mile walk twice a day. Chandler doesn't go up on the furniture and will only come in the bed if he is asked, but won't stay for very long. He lays on the floor or dog beds usually and close to me. He likes to cuddle with me if I sit or lay on the floor.

RAGOM takes in dogs regardless of their medical needs. Chandler is one of those dogs. His medical bills have exceeded any adoption fee, if he gets adopted. For this reason, I'm asking for extra support for Chandler. His medical bills will continue to be high for the near future. Can you help? RAGOM has many options and ways to sponsor these "special" dogs. We appreciate even the smallest donations. Here is a link to our donation page.

Thanks for checking in on Chandler 14-292.

RAGOM…it’s Chandler member number 14-292 reporting in on my first anniversary in my forever home. Things are great here…the food is good, the chauffeured limousine drives are wonderful, the exercise program (walks) is the best and the beds are nice and soft.  My forever mom says I have a big heart---size 24 XXXXL---and she also said that my nose is only one size smaller.  That makes my nose pretty big.  She said my heart will never get me in trouble but my nose will.  I’m sending a picture of my nose…it’s not that big, is it?

Hi, Chandler here again,

I've had a development and other things since my last update.

I went to the Meet & Greet in Elk River with resident Belle and foster brother Abel 15-024. I had a great time meeting lots of people and dogs. I had a couple special people come to see me. My sponsor Lisa B and a woman that met me at Pet-A-Palooza. Her name is Connie. She talked with FD for a long time at Pet-A-Palooza and at the Meet & Greet. I think she is very interested in me but has concerns about me getting along with her dog and cat. I also got to see former foster brother Yukon and his new mom. A very good day. I was pretty wore out when we got home.

A few days later, Connie came to meet me again at our house. As usual, I laid on the charm. She brought her RAGOM dog Sam with and we went for a walk together. Sam seemed a bit scared but we did ok together. I wanted to go home with Connie but FD said we had to go to her house to meet her cat that doesn't get along with dogs very well.

Well, yesterday was the day. We went to Connie's house. I met Sam again and went for a walk with him. He seemed to think I was ok. Then we went in the house to meet the cat. I ignored the cat. The cat didn't seem to be too bothered by me. Only hissed once and did not attack. I passed the test and Connie adopted me. I think I hit the jackpot. I have a large fenced yard and my new mom is now a 4 time RAGOM adopter. I promised FD that I would continue to be the best dog ever. FD said he will be calling to check up on me and may stop to visit when in the area.

I need to thank RAGOM, Trisch C, Lisa B, all the other sponsors/ supporters and FD for helping me in my time of desperate need and bringing me to my new life. I also want to thank all the behind the scenes RAGOM volunteers for all they do to help me and so many other dogs. I'm off to start my new new life.

Thank you all so much.

Watch for Happy endings updates on me.

Chandler/Copper 14-292.

Hi, Chandler here again,

I have lots to report since it has been a few weeks ,since my last update.

FD took me to another Meet & Greet in Edina. I love going to these events! I get lots of pets and hugs. Sometimes I get treats also. I had a special visitor this time. It was another one of my sponsors, Lisa B. I made sure to give her lots of love for helping with my expenses. FD thinks he may have talked her into becoming a foster mom for RAGOM. I got to wear the donation vest again! I really worked the crowd and did very well getting donations for RAGOM. I heard a few sad stories from people whose beloved Goldens had crossed the rainbow bridge. I made them very happy and helped block their sorrows. I may not be the dog for them, but I can help them to remember the unconditional love that a Golden can give them.

All of my medications are working as they should and no changes since my last update. There is no comparison to how badly I was doing 1 year ago. Thank You RAGOM and sponsors for helping me get back to feeling and looking like a normal dog.

FD thought I should highlight my adoption requirements and all of my outstanding qualities.

* I require daily excersize to stay in shape and have strength to prevent pain from my spine injury. I currently walk 3 miles or more every day. I could go much further if you are up to it. I'm not really a runner but can walk fairly fast.

* My prescription costs. They have dropped dramatically but still are a factor at $80/month. FD is going to try taking away the pain meds , to see if I still need it. (Gabipentin) If I don't need it at all , that will drop my monthly bill by another $20. It might be worth looking into health insurance. They might cover these meds.

* The above are my only real requirement besides attention , good food and lots of love. Here are a few of my highlights:

* I get along with people of all ages. I've lived with infants through adults and love them all.

* I get along with all dogs and cats. I'm currently living with 2 dogs and 2 cats.

* I'm totally housebroke and can go over 8 hours easily without going out. * I am not destructive and only chew appropriate things.

* I love riding in the car. I do very well on long trips.

* I very seldom bark.

* I'm not a fussy eater. I don't need my dry food "doctored" at all.

* I don't know a lot of commands but do come when called and will sit when told.

* I love to be with my people whatever they are doing. I love to be included.

* I don't jump up on furniture or beds unless I'm asked to.

* I like a routine but also like new things.

I think I am a very easy dog to have around and only a few special requirements.

Could I be the "one" for you? Contact you placement adviser to set up a meeting with me,

Chandler 14-292

I will be at the Meet & Greet in Elk River on Saturday 8/8/15 from 11AM-1 PM. I hope to see you there!

Hi friends and fans, Chandler here,

I must apologize for slacking so long on my updates.

First I must thank my new /returning sponsors, Teddy and Riley F, and Anonymous. It warms my heart to know that so many people care about me. Thank You.

I have been on my new allergy medication, Optiquil, now for a while and all seems to be good other than very slight itchy first thing in the morning before I get my daily dose. FD says he may try giving me a half dose twice a day to see if it makes any difference.  Something to note about the new allergy med is that my hair is losing the lovely curls that it had. FD says I am still plenty handsome.

FD cut my pain medication [Gabipentin] in half. I didn't notice any difference, so the change is permanent. That will lower my prescription bill by $12 a month.

I'm still taking Proin for incontinence and it continues to work well.

With the reduction in pain med my monthly prescription bill is now under $100.  That is down a long ways from the $250 that it was for quite a while.

I'm still walking around 3 miles a day, in 2 walks. FS Belle gets pretty hot in the sun, so we reduce speed and distance. We both take long naps when we get home in the A/C.

Now for the fun stuff. FS Belle and I went to Pet-A-Paloza at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. We had a great time meeting lots of people and lots of dogs. Belle wasn't real fond of the long car ride but did ok.

Belle and I also went to another Meet & Greet at the Chuck and Don's store in Elk River. There were more RAGOM dogs this time. I got to wear the donation vest since I know how to "work" and charm people.

I will be going to another Meet & Greet on Saturday 7/25/15 from noon to 2 pm In Edina at Chuck and Don's Pet Food store. I'd love to meet you. Come and  join us.

That about wraps it up for this time. Thank You again to my sponsors and to all of you who support RAGOM. We really do appreciate it. Without you, none of this would be possible. Chandler 14-292

Hi, Chandler here again,

I have a few things to report on this update , so here goes.

First, I must thank my newest sponsor Lisa B in honor of Mollie. I am so honored to be loved and supported by so many people. Thanks to all of you.

My new allergy medication, Optiquil, is working very well. I only itch ,very slightly, in the morning before i get my daily dose. I had blood work done a couple weeks ago to be sure I wasn't having any reactions to the Optiquil. All is very good, so no worries. My pain and incontinence medications are still working very well. The cost of my current meds is still a factor for any potential adopters. The cost is slightly over $100 per month. That is much less than it was when I was on the Cyclosporine, for the allergies,. Costs then were over $250 per month total. The Optiquil has brought very significant reduction in costs. FD says we will be trying reducing my pain meds in half to see if once a day will still keep me feeling good. If that works out, it could reduce my monthly costs another $15.

In other news, FD's Mom died. Foster Sister ,Belle, and I got to go stay with another great foster mom, Judy. She gave us both baths and lots of attention and loving. It's very nice that the RAGOM family has so many loving members to step in when things happen. Thank You Judy for taking such great care of us while FD was away.

Speaking of baths, since I got on the new allergy medication, Optiquil, I don't need baths as often and no real need to use the medicated shampoo. I still like getting baths though. Lots of attention and rubbing.

A few days ago , I proved that I still know how to hunt Pheasants. I flushed one out of the tall grass in the road ditch. I think it kind of scared FD a bit.

We still are walking twice just about every day. FD shortens the distance if it is hot and full sun. FS Belle has thick black fur so we don't want her to overheat. We slow down on the warm days also.

I am signed up to be at Pet-A-Palozza on June 27 1-3PM at the Minnesota Fairgrounds. I'd love to meet you there. There will be many other RAGOM foster and alumni dogs there and RAGOM volunteers not to mention all the other great dog stuff there. Come and join us.

That's about all for now, Thanks again to all my sponsors and fans for checking in on me,

Chandler 14-292

Hi, Chandler here again,

I must apologize for slacking on my updates. I have lots to tell, so here we go.

Since the last update, FD took FB Yukon and I to the Meet & Greet in Elk River. We were the only available RAGOM dogs there. We were joined by some RAGOM alumni dogs from the Elk River area. I got lots of pets and a few treats. I always love meeting new people and new dogs. We had a very good time. I must thank my friend Leann for hosting the event.

I've been talking about the new, better and cheaper allergy medication Optiquil. It finally is available. I switched over to it with no problems. I went to visit the Dermatologist at Dr McKeever's clinic in Eden Prairie after being on it for a few days to check for reactions. All appeared good, so the dose was cut in half early. In the future it may need to be adjusted if my allergy is seasonal. The only not so good thing was that I have a ear infection and need to have antibiotic cream put in my ears for 2 weeks. I will need to get blood work done after being on the Optiquil for 1 month to check for blood related reactions. The cost of the Optiquil is less than 1/3rd of what the Cyclosporine was. Another plus is that I don't need baths as often and may not need the prescription shampoo for them. I'm hoping that with my monthly costs going down, that it will be easier to find a new forever family.

In other news and speaking of finding families, my FB Yukon 12-264 found a family and was adopted. I wanted to stow away in Yukon's mom's car, but FD wouldn't let me. FD said he hopes I find a family of my own to love.

If you think I could be a match for you and your family, contact your placement adviser. I'd be very happy to meet you.

Thanks for checking in on me, Chandler 14-292

Hi again, Chandler here,

Since my last update we went to another Meet & Greet in Edina. I got lots of pets, treats and love from everyone I met. My FB Yukon came also. He did great but tried to move in on the people that were petting me. There was lots of dogs, ragom volunteers and other people. Great turn out. Thank You Patty for hosting the event.

This week I finally got good news from McKeever Dermatology Clinic!  The supply of the allergy medication Optiquil has increased and I will be switching over to it soon. The cost after the 1st month will be dramatically less than the Cyclosporine that I am currently on. About 1/3 of what it was. Another bonus could be that I won't need the once a week medicated bath Hopefully this will make me much more attractive to prospective adopters.

Since Yukon and I love the Meet & Greets, We will be going on Saturday 4/25/15 to the Meet & Greet in Elk River at the Chuck and Don's pet food store. We will be there from 11am-1pm. I hope to see you there.

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Hi folks, Chandler here again,

Since my last update, I went to another Meet & Greet. This one was in Brooklyn Park at a Petco store. It was nice out so we were outside. My friend Julie was the host. I poured the charm on to her first as a warm up. I met lots of people, lots of dogs and loved them all. I had one very special visitor. It was my sponsor Trish C and her dog Seamus. Me and FD were very glad to meet them.

We were there for another purpose also. It was to meet transporter Fred T . He brought my new foster brother Yukon 12-264. FD let me hang out with Karen H while he was getting Yukon taken care of. I had a great time at the M&G and hope to go to many more.

Still no news on the new , better allergy medication. Hopefully it will be released soon. My current medication is still working well. The switch over to the regular "Mature Dog" food has gone well. My skin and coat are still doing very well. My other medications and supplements are also working very well.

We are still doing 2 walks a day but have had to shorten the morning walk until FB[foster brother] Yukon gets in better shape. He is doing very well for being almost 15 years old. I wouldn't doubt he will be able to out distance me very soon. That's about all for now.

Thank you again for supporting RAGOM and checking in on me, Chandler 14-292

Friday, April 3, 2015

First and foremost I need to thank Teddy and Riley F for the Easter bunny decoration. I also need to thank Trish C and the other for their support. I have lots to be thankful for and you all have helped greatly. We have a new easy way to donate to me or any other RAGOM dog. At top of this page, or any other dog's page, there is a link you can click on. Easy and simple.

As promised, we went on a road trip to Elk River last Saturday. My foster sister Belle came with also. This was the 1st Meet & Greet RAGOM has had in Elk River for a couple years. It wasn't quite nice enough to be outside greeting people as they came in the store , so we were inside near the popular dog food area. Lots of people stopped to see who we were, asked questions and meet the RAGOM dogs and their fosters. I got lots of pets and was able to practice my "lean" and "nudge" if they stopped petting me. I was a hit with the other foster parents and volunteers also. Foster sister Belle did great also. It was her very first Meet & Greet. We all had a great time and thanks again to the host volunteer Leann.

FD said I should mention the few requirements that I have for a adoptive family.

* My biggest requirement is financial. My prescriptions are pretty expensive and not likely to go down much as I get older.

* I need a bath every week to ten days. I am "the best" at getting them and getting dried off.

* Daily walks. I now walk twice a day. 2 1/2-3 miles in the morning and 1 mile in the evening. I love my walks!

* I can be a only dog but get along fine with all dogs that I have met.

* I can go 8 hours or more between potty breaks. I do go out more often than that now since FD is home most of the time.

Here are a few of my highlights:

* I love people of all ages. I lived with infants-adults.

* I bark almost never.

* I have good recall. Not quite excellent (yet). I know "sit" and will do that most times when asked.

* I'm very good about baths and any other grooming.

* I get along great with other dogs and cats. I live with 2 cats now.

* I'm very affectionate. I love to be close to my people and will snuggle. I love pets and rubs.

Could I be the right dog for you? Contact your placement adviser to set up a meeting. I'd love to meet you.

Thank you for your continuing support and for checking in on me,

Chandler 14-292

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Hi folks, Chandler here again,

Since my last update, I went to the "Meet & Greet" in Coon Rapids, Mn. I got to meet lots of people and dogs. FD got to tell my story to lots of potential adopters while I got pets and hugs from them. I would lean into them while I was getting petted and give them a "Golden Nudge" if they stopped. I think the RAGOM volunteer , Julie, that was hosting the event wanted to take me home with her. She said she has a soft spot for senior boys like me. I had a very good time at the event and did great with all the other dogs. I did get very tired from all the leaning into people that I was doing. I slept most of the way home and had a long nap once we got home.

In other news, I have switched brands of dog food. I had been getting Iams prescription "Skin and Coat" that RAGOM got from a special program they are part of. I'm now getting Kirkland [Costco] "Mature" food. I like it and so far , no problems. FD says we will have to see how my skin and coat does with this food. Both had done very well with the previous food.

I'm still waiting for the new allergy medication to become available. The Cyclosporine that I am currently on is still working very well. All my other medications are still working great. I'm looking and feeling great! I still get a medicated bath every week. FD says I am the easiest dog to wash that he has ever had. As soon as he just opens the shower door, I walk in and wait to get bathed. I like getting dried off also.

After my bath this week, FD got the scissors out and started giving me a hair cut. He said I have become very "Hairy" now that my coat is doing so good. He did mostly trimming on my feet and legs , so that I don't get so dirty on our walks on the gravel road.

Speaking of walks, we are still walking once a day for 3 miles. FD says we will soon be going for a 1 mile or so evening walk also. I love the walks and all the different and new smells I get to check out.

FD said I have to be sure to mention that we will be going on another road trip this coming Saturday 3/28/15. We will be going to another Meet & Greet! This one will be a little closer to home. It will be at the Elk River Chuck & Don's Pet Food store. The address is:19230 Freeport St NW Elk River, MN 55330. The event is from 11am-1 pm. There should be lots of RAGOM dogs to meet, besides me, and volunteers to talk with. I'd love to meet all of you and show you my "lean". I hope to see you there!

Thanks for checking in on me, Chandler 14-292

Happy Valentines Day, Chandler. We are thrilled to see you making such wonderful progress! Happy Valentines Day, Chandler. We are thrilled to see you making such wonderful progress! Trish C

Hi, Chandler here again,

Since my last update, our guests, Rusty 04-374 and Diver 14-220 went home with their FM. Their stay here was a little shorter than expected. When their FM Darlene came to get them she had another dog with her. She had found the dog running on the county road. He came very close to getting hit several times before he jumped in the car with her. He is a Yellow Lab like Diver. FD named him Buddie since he would come to that when called. Buddie is a very nice dog. We get along great.

With the now warmer weather, I like to spend more time outside. FD trimmed the hair on my feet yesterday so that I don't drag as much mud in the house. FD says I am very good about letting him do any type of grooming. In fact I shocked FD last week when he was getting ready to give me a bath, I walked in the shower and waited without being asked. FD says I am the best dog ever for giving baths to. That is a pretty high honor since former resident Ziggy was very good also.

Since we covered my requirements for a furever home last time, I won't go over them again this time. I will be going on a road trip to Coon Rapids on Saturday to the RAGOM Meet & Greet at Petco from 11am-1pm. Come on out to meet me and many other RAGOM dogs and the RAGOM volunteers. I hope to see you there.

As always, Thank You to all those who sponsor me and other RAGOM dogs. We truly do appreciate it .

Hi, Chandler here again. I have to thank Harley and Sandy for their donation to me. I also must thank Trish C for her continued support. It all helps and I am grateful every day.

FD told me that both of us had been forgetting to put any requirements/guidelines for what I would need from a adoptive family. I guess all the medical stuff clouded things over a bit.

Here are some of my highlights:

* I am very affectionate. I love being petted and rubbed. I will snuggle for naps and all night some times.

* I am a great companion. I like to be close to my people.

* I get along with cats

* I get along with other dogs, young and old. I will play with younger playful dogs.

* I love to go on walks. 3 miles at a time seems to be a good limit for now.

* I love to ride in cars or trucks.

* I like kids. My former family had several kids.

* I don't need a fence. My recall is pretty good. I will wander off if left alone and un-attended. A tie-out is a very good idea.

* I rarely bark.

Here are some of my needs from a adoptive family:

* My current medications are expensive. Chances are very good that it could stay that way. You would need to meet this requirement and commitment.

* I need weekly baths with medicated shampoo. I am very good about taking baths.

* I need help getting in some cars and getting in trucks. I weigh 60 lbs.

In other news, We have house guests vacationing with us. Rusty 04-379 and Diver 14-220 are staying here for 6 weeks while their foster mom visits family. Rusty and Diver have been here a couple of times previously. We get along great!

My coat continues to get thicker and slightly curly. FD says I am a very handsome boy and looking better all the time. The good food, supplements and excersize are all working in my favor.

Could I be the dog for you and your family? Contact your placement adviser to find out more and set up a meeting.

Thanks for checking in on me Chandler 14-292.

Hi Chandler fans, Foster Dad[FD] here this time,

Chandler continues to do very well. His current medications are working well. He is looking and feeling great. We walk 3 miles just about every day. Chandler starts to pester me about going for the walk, about a hour or more before we normally go. When the daylight gets longer and temps get warmer, we will go back to twice a day walks. Then it will be over 4 miles a day.

I got some "not so good" news today from Chandler's allergy doctor, Dr McKeever, that the new allergy medication that was due to be re-released in February was delayed for a few months. The good news was that when it does become available , it will be cheaper than his current, quite expensive , Cyclosporine, is.

A big development for Chandler is that his tail will now wag pretty hard when he is very happy. His tail did not move at all when he first came here. He still can't lift his tail up though.

Chandler's foster sister Skylee Moved to another foster home in Iowa and was adopted. Chandler misses wrestling with Skylee 4 or more times a day. Once and a while Chandler will lay next to resident girl Belle. Belle isn't playful and hasn't let other dogs lay by her.

That about wraps it up for now. Thank you for checking in on Chandler.

hank You to those who support RAGOM and help support needy dogs like Chandler.

Chandler here again,

Thank you so much for the decorations and donations in my behalf. Thank you Tacy and Santa.

I had a very good Christmas with 2 human and 4 dog house guests. I got along great with all of them. Our guests were: FD's Sister and brother in-law and their dog Annie, FD's former foster dog Charlie 12-134, Diver 14-220 and Rusty 04-374. It was very muddy out , so we couldn't go for our normal walks.

Speaking of walks, now that it is froze back up we are walking again. I'm up to walking close to 3 miles! That is up from a couple hundred yard when I first got here. I get pretty tired out from the walk and take a long nap afterwards. I usually will have a few wrestling matches with foster sister Skylee 14-136 later in the afternoon. I'll give her a hard nip if she is getting too rough with me.

My medications all seem to be working well. I hope the new allergy medication that is supposed to come out in February will work even better. I hope it costs less also. The Cyclosporine I am taking now is very expensive.

Happy New Year to all and thank you again for your support.

Hi, Chandler here. There is lots to report since my last update.

I got to go for a ride to St Cloud. It was to go to a mobile MN SNAP clinic to get neutered. The surgery went very well. Now the bad news. I had an enlarged prostate that was contributing to my incontinence. I also have an ulcer or a scratch on my left eye. I recovered from the surgery pretty quickly and didn't and wouldn't wear the cone of shame.

I ended up going to see Dr Sarah at the Annandale Vet Clinic about the prostate and eye problem. Dr Sarah said to wait a see if the prostate shrinks on its own. In older dogs that get neutered, the neuter will most times cause it to shrink on its own. The eye only required some antibiotics and some antibiotic ointment. After 3 weeks and a couple checkups, both were fixed.

Since my allergy medication was working very well, we went ahead with the plan to reduce the dosage to the same dose, but every other day instead of every day. Sadly, after a little more than 2 weeks, I started getting itchy again, so we went back to every day. I am still getting a bath every week with a special medicated shampoo.

I am slowly gaining strength and am able to walk a mile without stopping to rest. FD says he can feel the muscles in my front and rear legs getting bigger and firmer. My front legs do most of the work since my rear hips aren't the best.

We had a great Thanksgiving. I have lots to be thankful for. We had 2 guests for Thanksgiving: Rusty 04-374 and Diver 14-220. We all had turkey dinner!

I'm thankful that I was surrendered to RAGOM. I'm thankful to all the volunteers that make this organization possible. I'm also very thankful to the donors and supporters that help fund RAGOM to help dogs like me. Since I have very high medical and prescription bills, I'm asking if you could help to defray some of those costs and sponsor me, or make any donation in my name here. I would appreciate even the smallest donation. Thanks for checking up on me and have very Happy Holidays.

Hi, Chandler watchers.

First and foremost, Thank You so much to Trish C for sponsoring Chandler in honor of Seamus. It is very heartwarming to know there are people out there to support dogs like Chandler.

The good news first. Chandler is responding to the Cyclosporine, new medicated shampoo, and the topical spray. He still itches some and his eyes are a little puffy, but things are going the right way now with his allergies. The plan is to try cutting back the dosage of the Cyclosporine once things are under control. An added bonus is that Chandler is smelling better now. He had a "doggy" odor previously.

The Proin that Chandler is taking for his incontinence is working as well as can be expected with the spine injury. Letting him outside frequently seems to help some.

Chandler's fur seems to be coming back in the thin areas and is pretty shiny. He is getting a prescription "Skin and Coat" dog food and has put on a few pounds.

Now the not-so-good. The veterinary orthopedic surgeon looked at Chandler's X-rays and determined there wasn't much, if anything, practical she could do to fix the spinal injury. Not what anyone was hoping for, but knew it was possible. On the bright side of this, we did find a pain medication for Chandler that is working quite well. It is Gabapentin. Chandler is now walking over 1/2 mile twice a day without stopping to rest or let the pain ease up. He very much enjoys the walks.

Next up on medical for Chandler is neuter surgery. Hoping for that to happen in the next few weeks.

Chandler has come out of his shell and become a very affectionate dog. He loves petting and to cuddle. I think it may be his way to thank for the help he has received getting to feel better. He continues to get along fine with the rest of the pack here. He did freak me out one day when he picked up a kitten in his mouth. He has a gentle touch and the kitten wasn't harmed. He dropped the kitten as soon as I said, "NO," and ignores them now when we see them. Chandler was a hunting dog in his younger years. Bird dogs usually have a gentle grip with their mouths.

So, not all good or great news, but things are heading in a better direction for Chandler. Thank you for your support and please consider co-sponsoring Chandler.
