This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Dorothy 17-116 is one of eight purebred Golden Retriever puppies brought into rescue from a Kansas breeder. They are thought to be older than the date of birth we were given. My vet thought Dottie was possibly 12-14 weeks old.
Dottie weighs 17.6 lbs. and is all legs and gangly puppy. She is quite thin and did have worms. That has been treated and she is on free feed to gain some weight. She is cream colored and feels like velvet. She has a distinctive cowlick on her neck. She is a beautiful, sweet puppy.
At first I thought Dottie was the calmest puppy I have ever fostered. It turned out she just wasn’t feeling real well. At her vet visit, she had her ears cleaned and got drops for an infection, meds for a respiratory infection and four shots for Bordetella, DHPP, Lyme and Rabies. Even with all that, she perked up immediately and has been a different dog. She loves to play with my dogs, especially my big Golden. She loves chasing and retrieving tennis balls. She hoards her toys on a dog bed in the living room and is very happy to play with them by herself.
Dottie is a great traveler. Her transport to me met us in Austin MN coming from the Twin Cities. From there we were off to the lake in Wisconsin. After a week, she traveled back to Sioux Falls, riding quietly in her crate for seven hours with short rest stops. She rides nicely in the backseat for trips around town. We are off for another trip to Wisconsin soon. This time we’ll introduce her to swimming and kayaking. She loved going for long walks with the other dogs. She also enjoyed meeting family and neighbors, both adults and children.
We are working on housebreaking. It’s coming along but she doesn’t let me know when she needs to go out yet. I watch for signs and make frequent trips outside with her. She has only been here for less than two weeks. She keeps her crate clean for 2-3 hours and sleeps all night in bed with us. When she is outside, she will go potty when told to go potty.
Dottie has many very good qualities. She isn’t mouthy. She listens and is easily re-directed. She doesn’t bark much. She is quite calm and settles down. She is curious and playful.
Dottie is scheduled to be spayed June 15. After that, she is ready to go to her forever home.
