This update for Dottie is very overdue. She has been busy traveling back and forth from South Dakota to Wisconsin; taking pack walks, spending time with my friend’s eleven year old granddaughter and having lots of house guests both at home and the lake. Everyone enjoyed her lovely personality and puppy playfulness.
Foster Mom had lots of applicants to consider for Dottie’s adoption. She made a decision and that led to lots of emails, calls and sharing of pictures. We had some time to wait while they did their application and home visit.
In the meantime, Dottie finished her antibiotics and gained some weight. She was still very thin. When she had her spay and fecal recheck, her abdomen leaked fluid when the vet opened her up. That prompted additional blood tests and more medication for a hookworm that showed up after several wormings and coccidia which was causing her problems. A week later, she had gained another three pounds, was eating a high protein diet to boost her levels, taking her meds, never noticing she had an incision and finally on her way to being healthy.
Dottie is just over 25 pounds now. She has several of her adult teeth and probably best of all for her adopters, she is housebroken! She can sit when asked, especially for treats. She is still trying to peek over the countertop or tabletop to see if there is food. She has found her voice and will be a good watch dog. She barks to alert. She also barks and whines if you leave her behind in a room. She wants to be your constant companion.
For her final update, Dottie has been adopted and gone to her forever family. She joins a family with four children ages 5-8 and a cat. They lost their twelve year old Golden to cancer in April and their family wasn’t complete anymore. While some members of the family have allergies, we carefully dog tested her with them and with doctor’s approval and mom's support, this dog will be a much loved and wanted member of their family.
