This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Denver was originally rescued from a farm in Iowa, having been tied to a chicken coop for two years, and adopted by a family in Minnesota. His original name was Buffy, but the family changed it to Denver and this is what we continue to call him. However, he was returned from the family back to RAGOM after 6 weeks because of behavioral issues and because their dog was not tolerant of a younger lad. They said he was great with their 6 month old baby and teenagers as well as their two cats. The original behavioral issues were urinating inside, destruction of items in the house such as getting into garbage and chewing slippers/shoes, crawling in your lap and needing too much attention.
Denver has never shown any aggression towards animals or humans. He is good with kids of all ages, dogs and cats.
Since he has been in our care, we kennel him during the day while we are at work. There have been no bathroom accidents in the house, but we are very diligent about letting him out as soon as we wake in the morning, come home, after eating and before bed at night. He will whine and pace if he needs to go out at other times and responds to the command “outside” and runs to the back door. When we are not home, he has been allowed free run of the house (with our Golden) for up to 4 hours at a time. There has been one incident where he chewed a blanket that was left on the sofa and the shoe string on a shoe. He hasn’t gotten into the garbage, but we keep it under the sink behind closed doors (our Golden has the same bad habit!)
Our description of Denver:
He is a 60-65 lb. Yellow lab-Golden Retriever mix, and he has the “Velcro” gene from the Golden side!! He is happiest right next to you, sitting on your lap or sleeping beside you in bed. He wants nothing more than for you to pet him or go for a walk. Additionally, he is very gentle and content to lie around as he waits for another unsuspecting person he can ask to pet him. He will shower you with kisses and hugs. Affectionate and sweet would best describe him.
He follows our Golden around like a little brother trying to emulate his every move. They have become buddies and I think Denver has learned some new terms in the process: “outside” and “dinner.”
