In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly

This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Denver was originally rescued from a farm in Iowa, having been tied to a chicken coop for two years, and adopted by a family in Minnesota. His original name was Buffy, but the family changed it to Denver and this is what we continue to call him. However, he was returned from the family back to RAGOM after 6 weeks because of behavioral issues and because their dog was not tolerant of a younger lad. They said he was great with their 6 month old baby and teenagers as well as their two cats. The original behavioral issues were urinating inside, destruction of items in the house such as getting into garbage and chewing slippers/shoes, crawling in your lap and needing too much attention.

Denver has never shown any aggression towards animals or humans. He is good with kids of all ages, dogs and cats.

Since he has been in our care, we kennel him during the day while we are at work. There have been no bathroom accidents in the house, but we are very diligent about letting him out as soon as we wake in the morning, come home, after eating and before bed at night. He will whine and pace if he needs to go out at other times and responds to the command “outside” and runs to the back door. When we are not home, he has been allowed free run of the house (with our Golden) for up to 4 hours at a time. There has been one incident where he chewed a blanket that was left on the sofa and the shoe string on a shoe. He hasn’t gotten into the garbage, but we keep it under the sink behind closed doors (our Golden has the same bad habit!)

Our description of Denver:

He is a 60-65 lb. Yellow lab-Golden Retriever mix, and he has the “Velcro” gene from the Golden side!! He is happiest right next to you, sitting on your lap or sleeping beside you in bed. He wants nothing more than for you to pet him or go for a walk. Additionally, he is very gentle and content to lie around as he waits for another unsuspecting person he can ask to pet him. He will shower you with kisses and hugs. Affectionate and sweet would best describe him.

He follows our Golden around like a little brother trying to emulate his every move. They have become buddies and I think Denver has learned some new terms in the process: “outside” and “dinner.”

Updates

Denver was concerned that his updates have been on the boring side so we went to my woods for a new photo. He enjoyed the change in scenery and it was just a short walk so he was up for that!

He got a new foster brother yesterday who is only a year old. Denver has been very good with him  and is now a role model. Wherever Denver goes, the new kid follows.

From Goldzilla 2015:

Denver had a good time at Goldzilla, but says that next time he wants a golf cart to take him from the parking area to the picnic. He is a slow walker and it took us longer to walk back to the car

He LOVED the chew balls and treats that he got at the picnic as well as all of the attention. I have attached a picture showing him busy with one of the balls.

I have him wearing a belt when he is in the house, so there have been no accidents since then. I change the diaper in the belt once a day and it is not heavily used. He does not mind the belt and so we are all happy here!

Mr Denver returned to RAGOM's care yesterday. Due to a change in his family's circumstance, they could no longer keep him. It is a hard thing to say good bye after 11 loving years.

He is a VERY sweet boy and I am amazed that he is 13 years old. He looks much younger than that to me. I have not heard him bark as he is a quiet guy. He does not show any interest in toys or even tennis balls! He has soft fur and is a bit of a cuddler.

He went to the vet today to get up to date on his shots. He was well behaved, but not happy about getting his nails clipped. The test results will be in tomorrow, so I will include them in a future update. He only weighs 42.5 pounds and I think he is a bit underweight. He has muscle atrophy in his back legs, but is still able to jump up on the bed. (I invited him up and he slept there last night.)

His fur is interesting as it is fluffy on the side and smooth down the center of his back (almost like a racing stripe). He doesn't love to be brushed, but he will let me do it.

Mr Denver is looking for a quiet home with not too many steps and lots of love. His needs are pretty simple.

This guy is such a love bug!! He is so gentle and kind. For a young Golden, this guy is unbelievably calm. We have had no problems with Denver: no bathroom accidents, no chewing incidents, nothing. He wants nothing more than affection and attention either from us or our Golden, and he is content to lie around when you've had your fill of him.

He is learning how to use the gentle leader on walks and is really getting the hang of it. The walks are also helping him slim down a little bit as he was a few pounds overweight.

Our friends were over with their 3 month old baby and Denver wanted to sit beside her the entire time. He became very worried when she would cry and licked her toes or fingers.....it seemed to try and comfort her. It was really cute.

He loves to sleep in the bed. His favorite spot is right on the edge beside me. He will lie there the entire night without making a peep or moving. He is just content to be in the room with us. I keep thinking he would be perfect for a younger child that had trouble sleeping alone at night or for someone whose spouse traveled a lot. He is a very effective heater!!

Denver seems to have learned the word "treat." I guess we aren't so surprised by that one!
