04/19/2017:
I would like to introduce my new foster girl, Carly!
Carly is an 18-month-old Golden Retriever (date of birth: 10/15/15). She comes to us from a breeder. She had a litter of puppies a few weeks ago and did not want to be a mama to them. The puppies were given to a new mother dog to care for, and Carly was surrendered to RAGOM.
It is very obvious that Carly has not spent any time around people or seen the inside of a house. She is very fearful of everything except the other dogs in the house. She has all the characteristics of a Puppy Mill Dog.
She is young and even though she is afraid, she is also brave. I am hopeful she will learn quickly and begin to enjoy her new life as a family pet!
Carly went to the vet for her first checkup and to be brought up to date on her shots. She is in good health. She weighs 58 pounds. She does have an eye infection. She looks like she had a run-in with another dog and may have gotten poked in the eye. She is on medication to help heal that up. I will take her back to the vet to get it rechecked at the end of the week. As you can see from her photos, her eyes are a bit swollen.
Because Carly had puppies just a few weeks ago, the vet is recommending that we wait until the end of May to have Carly spayed. They would like things to shrink down and get back to normal before she gets that surgery. That will also give her the time she needs to become more confident and comfortable in her new surroundings.
Carly is available to meet her potential family. We cannot finalize her adoption until after her spay surgery.
Things she will need in her new home:
- She will need a fenced-in yard.
- She will need another confident dog her size.
- Children should be 10 or above. She is afraid of little kids right now. This may change as she becomes more confident.
- She will need Love and Patience.
I will update again soon as I learn more about this beautiful girl!
