Please welcome gentle Maggie to RAGOM. She is a purebred Golden and is 6 1/2 years old and will be 7 in October. She came to us from a very loving owner who had to move and could not take Maggie with her.  The owner wants Maggie to have a long and happy life with a loving family and happily she chose RAGOM  to obtain that for Maggie.

To help Maggie adjust to her new life in RAGOM she was accompanied by several dog beds, a large basketful of toys, a special blanket, her own feeding dish, and lots more supplies.
We were told she was raised with or had positive experiences with dogs, cats, and children of all ages. Maggie also will need a fenced-in yard so she won't  run and her favorite activity is swimming. Apparently she has never encountered a body of water she doesn't want to jump into and take a swim. She also loved going to dog parks. She is never kenneled and has free roam in the house with no problems.

Maggie is a love. She is a laid-back mellow Golden who adjusted very easily to her new foster home with no issues at all. She is not a Velcro dog but loves to be petted and especially loves belly rubs. She loves walking around the fenced yard here and then taking long naps. She hops on and off sofas and beds easily, and usually spends the night on her bed in my room. If the room is too warm she will move to the living room sofa. She loved the heavy snow and rolled around in it and made her snow angels.

She arrived on a Friday  and on Saturday  went to the groomer's for a nice bath which she enjoyed except for the pedicure. So far that is the only thing Maggie dislikes....having her feet touched. But it has not been an issue even with a houseful of visiting children these past few days.

Maggie went for her wellness exam and weighs a whopping 96 pounds.....so she needs to lose about 15-20 pounds gradually. The veterinarian said her hips and knees are in good shape and overall she is very healthy. The only issues were 2 ear infections and  2 eye infections, both of which are now being treated. She also has entropion, a slight turning in of the eyelids. When we return for Maggie's follow-up appointment in another week, the vet will determine if Maggie needs to be referred to a specialist for possible corrective surgery.

Maggie had a very busy week with lots of children aged from four upwards. We also had 3 other dogs here, adult male and female and an 8 week old pup, and Maggie was great with all of them.Though she was spayed at 6 months she was interested in mothering the puppy a bit which was very sweet to watch.

She is up-to-date on all shots and was negative for both heartworm and Lyme's disease.
She was started on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

Maggie, gentle and sweet as she is, turns out to be an excellent watchdog with a deep loud bark. She does not bark excessively but she certainly alerts to anyone approaching the house or yard. She never is more aggressive than a good bark, however.

Maggie is a wonderful Golden who would fit into most any family, young or old, children or no children, other dogs or not. Cats have not been tested but by history she is fine with cats.
She likes to roam so will need a fence. She is carrying a lot of extra weight right now so walks rather slowly but that will change as she loses the weight.
