Please welcome gentle Maggie to RAGOM. She is a purebred Golden and is 6 1/2 years old and will be 7 in October. She came to us from a very loving owner who had to move and could not take Maggie with her.  The owner wants Maggie to have a long and happy life with a loving family and happily she chose RAGOM  to obtain that for Maggie.

To help Maggie adjust to her new life in RAGOM she was accompanied by several dog beds, a large basketful of toys, a special blanket, her own feeding dish, and lots more supplies.
We were told she was raised with or had positive experiences with dogs, cats, and children of all ages. Maggie also will need a fenced-in yard so she won't  run and her favorite activity is swimming. Apparently she has never encountered a body of water she doesn't want to jump into and take a swim. She also loved going to dog parks. She is never kenneled and has free roam in the house with no problems.

Maggie is a love. She is a laid-back mellow Golden who adjusted very easily to her new foster home with no issues at all. She is not a Velcro dog but loves to be petted and especially loves belly rubs. She loves walking around the fenced yard here and then taking long naps. She hops on and off sofas and beds easily, and usually spends the night on her bed in my room. If the room is too warm she will move to the living room sofa. She loved the heavy snow and rolled around in it and made her snow angels.

She arrived on a Friday  and on Saturday  went to the groomer's for a nice bath which she enjoyed except for the pedicure. So far that is the only thing Maggie dislikes....having her feet touched. But it has not been an issue even with a houseful of visiting children these past few days.

Maggie went for her wellness exam and weighs a whopping 96 pounds.....so she needs to lose about 15-20 pounds gradually. The veterinarian said her hips and knees are in good shape and overall she is very healthy. The only issues were 2 ear infections and  2 eye infections, both of which are now being treated. She also has entropion, a slight turning in of the eyelids. When we return for Maggie's follow-up appointment in another week, the vet will determine if Maggie needs to be referred to a specialist for possible corrective surgery.

Maggie had a very busy week with lots of children aged from four upwards. We also had 3 other dogs here, adult male and female and an 8 week old pup, and Maggie was great with all of them.Though she was spayed at 6 months she was interested in mothering the puppy a bit which was very sweet to watch.

She is up-to-date on all shots and was negative for both heartworm and Lyme's disease.
She was started on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

Maggie, gentle and sweet as she is, turns out to be an excellent watchdog with a deep loud bark. She does not bark excessively but she certainly alerts to anyone approaching the house or yard. She never is more aggressive than a good bark, however.

Maggie is a wonderful Golden who would fit into most any family, young or old, children or no children, other dogs or not. Cats have not been tested but by history she is fine with cats.
She likes to roam so will need a fence. She is carrying a lot of extra weight right now so walks rather slowly but that will change as she loses the weight.

I would like to start with a huge huge thank you to two different sets of humans. First to my sponsors Ali and Nick. Thank you so very much for your support and generosity. Second to the Valgemae Goldens for thier very generous donation. With the support of very nice people like you it helps us puppers so much and is so very appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.I have been doing really well. I am even coming up to foster mom and foster dad while inside to get some loving. I have been doing that outside, but inside I was not. I have also been laying in different places other than my usual spot. The other day I was laying by the pantry and when foster mom went into the pantry I did not get up and run, I just stayed where I was. That is another baby step for me. Foster mom keeps telling me that it is just one baby step at a time. Foster mom and foster dad are proud of my progress lately. It's not that foster mom wants it to snow, but she is courious to know how I will act in the white stuff. When that happens I will let you know how I did. I have been running with my resident sisters when I am outside instead of just hanging out with myself. If you have a pupper that would like to run with me outside and be my companion, please contact your placement advisor and let them know. Foster mom would love to talk to you about me. Thanks for stopping by.
Taking in the fresh air Lounging with one of my resident sisters like I do a lot. I am the one in the back.I also like to lounge around with my feline cousins

Just a brief update on sweet, gentle Maggie. Today she had her 2 week recheck with her eye surgeon and passed with flying colors.  Her eye condition was not entropion as originally thought but instead she had to have cryo(freezing) surgical removal of multiple distichia (abnormal growth of  multiple hairs growing on her eyelid margins) plus 2 other procedures.

For the first time in probably many years Maggie is now free of the inflammation, irritation, discharge and constant discomfort caused by this condition. We are so grateful that RAGOM allowed Maggie to have this surgery and are equally grateful for the expert surgical care provided by Dr. L. and for the loving ministrations Maggie received from his wonderful staff before and after the surgery. Thank you all. Plus a very big thank you to veterinarian Dr. J. for referring Maggie to the eye clinic for the consultation and for all her care prior to the surgery for both Maggie's eyes and ears.
It takes a village.

Adoption pending will soon be changing to adoption day!

Wonderful news........beautiful, gentle Maggie has found her forever home!  She will remain with RAGOM for a short while longer so that her ears and eye problems can be resolved and then will go home with her new family and live her well- deserved Golden life.  See that smile in her picture below.....I think she knows there is nothing but love and good times in her future. And she will return it double fold to her new family. A big thanks to everyone involved in bringing Maggie into RAGOM  and helping her along her journey and to her new family for loving her and taking her into your hearts and home.
