Roscoe is here and is ready to start learning what it is like to be a RAGOM golden! A HUGE GOLDEN thank you to Karen for contacting RAGOM and getting him on to the good life.
He has the basics down; he's red, he's loving, his tail never stops wagging, he loves other dogs, he loves to cuddle, he's housebroken... But he needs to start learning beyond the basics; it's not OK to hump, how to walk on a leash, how to sit...
I've only had Roscoe for a couple days now but I can tell you that he is just a big lug of love. He weighed in at 94 healthy pounds. He does have bilateral ear infections and possibly some skin issues that we're hoping will resolve on a good diet of grain free food.
Roscoe is a total love bug. He wants to be near me all the time, and his tail wags so hard that he almost knocks himself over. He gets so excited when you're petting him that he literally folds in on himself so you can pet his head and his bum at the same time. He has the best happy butt wiggle I've seen in a long time.
Roscoe is very strong and has some manners to learn while leash walking. We'll be working on the gentle leader this week since it's impossible to walk 4 dogs if one can't toe the line with the rest. He seems to have quite a bit of energy but it's hard to determine if he will be a high energy dog or if he's still just a bit nervous.
Roscoe is neutered, but only recently so he still has the humping tendency. He responds well to "off" and "no" and he is learning doggy language quite well. When he was first introduced to my dogs and buried his nose in their private areas, he didn't back off when the lip was raised and the growl emitted so we let my resident dogs "snap" at him so he would get the picture a little better and he didn't need a nip to learn that the raised lip and the growl is a good indication he needs to move on :)
He's now met 9 dogs since coming into RAGOM! He met my 3, the neighborhood pipsqueak and then he got to go to another RAGOM home where he was able to meet Hope and the 4 resident dogs there and he did fantastic with all the meet and greets. I can honestly and truly say that he has loved every dog he's met, big and small. He has initiated play with my Millie and learned to stop when she was done.
Roscoe is a talker and loves to let you know what's on his mind. If he feels you're not the center of his attention he will talk to you and remind you that he is still here. If he needs to go potty and you're not paying attention he will talk to you and make sure you understand that it's time to go!
He LOVES cuddling with you on the couch and he jumped right into bed with me but, unfortunately for him, he needed to be kenneled so everyone could have a good sleep and have their own space. I do this with all my new fosters until everyone learns that we're going to be harmonious. He was a little whiny for the first few minutes but he soon realized that he was in there for the night and went to sleep. He was sure happy to jump into bed for a quick cuddle in the morning though before we went outside!
This dog is absolutely fantastic and with a little work he will be a long-time dedicated companion.
What he needs in his furever home:
* Will do fine with or without another dog. If there is another dog it is one that must be playful
* Does not need a fence but would love one
* Has been mildly interested in the cat, but has not tried to eat him :)
* No young kids. His happy but almost knocks humans over, he would knock a little kid down in his exuberence.
* MUST have a family dedicated to obedience training & socialization
* MUST have a family that will take him for daily walks
Roscoe would make a fantastic first dog for a family and would also be a good addition to any other family. He's just a few walks short of perfect! If you would like to know more or meet this love bug, please let your placement coordinator know!
