Riley 07-320

Profile

5/7/07: Wow, what a lover! Riley came home late last night and has stolen everyone's heart - everyone includes the two resident cats, Reggy the resident dog, and just about every neighbor she met on her walk today (young or old, she wasn't partial). She is very gentle, loving, trusting, and has adjusted very well to our home. She enjoys attention and greeted me today with a WAGGY-WAG and a kiss. Riley will visit the vet tomorrow and the groomer on Thursday. Her health seems great although she is a little over weight (shhhhh!).

Riley is 10-12 years old, perfect in the house, doesn't chew, just likes to have a toy in her mouth (anyone surprised?), and has lived both in the country and in the city. She rode in the car like a darling angel. What more could you ask for? Her surrending family had kids, dogs, cats, horses, and an array of visitors.

If all goes well, she will be interviewing families soon and will make a perfect companion for anyone.

Dear Happy Endings .... I have made it! I mean the trip to Bellingham WA and back to Waterloo IA! It was rough, especially since we have a new car and Harley/08-195 was "hogging" the seat and would NOT move a bit! It was hard to get up on my human brother Michael's hardwood floors but with the help of Dad, Michael and Andy I made it. Tink, their Golden Retriever, was happy to see me and wanted me to be her playmate, but being OLD, I did not want to play! I was happy to lay around and snooze. Harley cannot be bothered and he takes everything in stride. ..... Now the next challenge is going to be the fishing trip to Minnesota at the end of next month! Mom and Dad are watching me like "hawks" and "nudge" me if I am sleeping too soundly ... just to see if I am still alive! After all, I am OLD and I am getting close to 17 years! .... The "Energizer Rabbit" that keeps going and going and going!!! Riley

Here we are,

From Riley's forever family...

SENIORS! .... Riley/07-320 and Harley/08-195 in Bellingham WA!

Riley is going on 16 but is full of life and has surprised even our Dr. R. with her "attitudes". Twice we thought we had to help her cross the Rainbow Bridge, twice she "shaped" up and lives on happily forever! She is deaf and needs to have "ears" to follow. That is why we got Harley last year after helping Dorus, the Dutch speaking RAGOM dog and also a Senior, cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Riley and Harley are GOOD travelers going from Vermont to WA State at least twice a year. This year we also went to a lake in Minnesota .... no way are those two dogs getting into the boat or swim in the lake! Aren't Goldens supposed to LOVE to swim?

Also, last week we met a volunteer in Albert Lea MN ... she said her husband has two Goldens that are hunting dogs! Our Harley would be a very POOR hunting dog .... he HATES loud noises and would be gone forever if he saw a gun or heard a shot fired! .... So, please adopt SENIORS ... our five RAGOM dogs all have been seniors and we LOVE it!

From Riley's forever family...

We adopted Riley on Mother's Day 2007. After we adopted her, we found out that she was deaf. Right after adoption, Riley was tested by PETPALs to be a therapy dog and she passed with flying colors. Initially she visited patients at Covenant Medical Center/Rehab and Skilled Nursing and the children in the Respite Program at River Hills School for Disabled Children. But being a senior and being, we think, almost 14 years, she now is visiting the children in the Respite Program at the Deery Center here in Waterloo. And she loves it and so do the children. Beginning Feb. 17 she will also visit the adults at the Deery Center under supervision of EPI, visits EPI and PETPALs initiated.

Since she definitely needs "ears", we adopted Dorus/07-314 in August of 2007. Dorus was a senior too and we helped him across the Rainbow Bridge in April 2008. Now her "ears" are in Harley/08-195 and we adopted him on Mother's Day 2008. They are a good pair, Harley rules and Riley is perfectly happy to follow!

We miss Bailey terribly .... but as of last Sunday, RILEY has joined our family!  Rosemarie, Jan and Riley

Riley is a fantastic dog. She loves everyone. I just can't believe how friendly and happy she is. Riley visited the vet yesterday and all went well. She won over the Vet, and the Vet technicians too, and the people shopping for pet supplies. She stood there wagging her cute little behind hoping someone would pet her.

Riley took her vaccinations like a star. She does have a slight ear infection in her right ear that we are treating. I thought for sure it would be a battle this morning cleaning her ears and putting the medicine in the ear, but she stood there smiling and wagging her tail-enjoying every bit of attention she was receiving. Riley sleeps all night all curled up on a bed we have provided for her. She likes her food and her treats really well, if you can't tell by her picture. Riley's feelings weren't hurt yesterday when the Vet said "Riley, my girl, you are a bit overweight."

Riley brings so much joy to us and our neighbors. Riley wants her prospective adoptive family to know, she still has a lot of love to give.
