Sammy and his sister, Sadie 09-085, are littermates that have lived together their whole lives.  Sammy is a bit shy and follows Sadie everywhere.  He met my dogs and immediately wanted to play.  He has been listening submissively to my grouchy female, Scout.  Sammy was obviously loved and cared for by his surrendering family.

Sammy was born with a corkscrew tail, short and curled.  Sammy has also had 3 surgeries for entropian in both eyes. Entropian is a condition where the eyelashes curl inward and irritate the eye.  His left eye looks corrected now after his surgeries.  His right eye may require more work, as it is watery and irritating.  He will go to the vet this week to be checked out and microchipped.

Sammy is a sweet boy!  He kisses his sister and my boy, Skye, whenever they approach.  He knows a few commands and has been through beginner obedience training.  I am hoping to place him in the same home as his sister, Sadie!  I will post more as I get to know him.

Sammy crossed the rainbow bridge on Saturday September 10, 2016, Sammy will be deeply missed, never forgotten and forever loved. Thank you RAGOM for letting Sammy steal our hearts for the past 7 ½ years. He is now with his sister Sadie 09-085 who passed away 2 years prior.

From Sammy's forever family...

Sammy and Sadie attended their first but not their last RAGOM Picnic. They had a full fun filled day and were happy to see their foster mom, it has been a fast 6 months since joining our family and we have stolen the hearts of all the neighbors (did you know they keep dog treats even if they don’t have a dog, lucky us). The lake water felt so refreshing after the 5k walk.

Sammy has been with us for 2 months now and has adjusted well. He now eats regular dry dog food. Getting him to eat anything was a struggle after his tail surgery.  Sunday mornings he gets a treat of cooked eggs in with the food.  We go for daily walks early each morning and sometimes again in the evening.  He no longer gets nervous and trembles when we go for rides in the car or truck.

We would like to thank the surrendering owners. It must have been a difficult decision to let Sammy and Sadie go. Rest assured that Sammy and Sadie have made our house a home, stolen our hearts and have lots of love and neck rubs and are at their forever home.

Thanks to all the volunteers involved with the transition for Sammy, our home visit family and to Sammy’s foster mom for all the love and care she gave Sammy and for allowing him to be a member of our family.

Sammy thinks it is pretty special to have his own drinking fountain in the yard.

First and foremost--a huge thank you to Sammy's sponsor Rebecca P!! How touching to know that sweet pups in need like my Sammy boy have wonderful people out in RAGOM land thinking of them and supporting us with the medical bills. We couldn't do it without your support. Sammy sends a big lick and woof to you!

Sammy is so much more comfortable since his surgery to fix a few genetic defects! His eye has had absolutely no draining since the surgery. Check out the pictures. I am so happy for him.

We went to PetSmart last weekend and he was adorable in his boxer shorts! They were both so gentle with the children and other dogs. Several families expressed interest in Sammy and his sister. I was thrilled! It isn't often that families are able to take in two dogs at once and I was a bit worried that these two would end up separated. Not SO! The C family from Iowa drove up to meet them and fell in love. Sammy and Sadie will be going to their new home at the end of this week after Sammy's stitches are removed. They will get to romp on 5 acres (once they learn a reliable 'come') and best of all they will get to stay together.

Sammy is eating better with a bit more enticing food in his bowl. He will have his eye fixed on Wednesday and I am so excited that it will not irritate him anymore. I can't imagine having something constantly rubbing in my eyes. Probably why I can't wear contacts!

Sammy really enjoyed his puppy sitting duties this past weekend. We had Cappuccino for five days and Sammy really took to him. Not only did he play gently (and let Chino chew on him) but he let him snuggle in the same dog bed. It was so cute I had to take pictures.

The other adorable thing Sammy does is give his sister Sadie her ball--with what looks like quite the kiss :) If he has the ball he brings it over to her and tries to put it in her mouth. Check out that picture!

He walks beautifully with the Gentle Leader. So nicely that I was able to walk him, Sadie and my resident Scout without any pulling. He doesn't stop to investigate every smell. It was a very pleasant walk.

Sammy also likes to sleep in bed with us at night. But he waits till everyone is situated and then puts his head on the bed as if asking permission. It is so darn sweet! I just love this boy and can't say enough good things about him. If you are interested in meeting him and Sadie let placement know.

Sammy is such a great dog! He is a lovely sweet boy without a mean bone in his body. He is happy just to snuggle on the couch or fetch a ball--but he is not ball obsessed. He will just as happily lay in the snow with the ball between his paws. Sammy knows the 'sit' and 'down' commands and has been through beginner obedience. He pulls on the leash with a flat collar but walks very nicely with the Gentle Leader. No pulling at all.

Sammy went to the vet today and had his eye checked. He needs surgery since both the upper and lower lids are rolling inward and causing it to water. It makes him look so sad. His surgery is scheduled for next week. Sammy also has an open wound under his corkscrew tail. He is getting medication to that area along with antibiotics until it clears up.

Sammy is a bit stressed from his big life change and has not been eating well. He has had one full meal in the 3 days he has been here. He can stand to lose a couple of pounds but this is not the way to do it. I got some canned food and I will entice him with that. He is so good at giving little puppy kisses and is one of the easiest, sweetest fosters I have had.

If you are interested in a package deal--two well adjusted, wonderful Golden's with some training, check out Sammy and his sister Sadie. You won't be disappointed.
