Sadie and her brother, Sammy 09-084, arrived today and met my pack with ease.  Well, my Scout isn't sure they belong but she has to let all my fosters know she's the boss!  Sadie and Sammy are littermates and have lived their whole lives together.  They are 5.5 years old.  They were loved and well cared for and it shows.  They have only been here a few hours, but so far everything I have seen tells me that they are great dogs.  We are going to try our best to adopt these two out together! 

Sadie is the more confident one and loves to play with other dogs.  She gives puppy face licks to all she meets, especially her brother Sammy.  Her family said that she is ball obsessed, so I have put those away for now.  Wouldn't you know, however, Sadie found one under the snow and frozen in ice in the far corner of the yard!  Thus far, she hasn't been successful in freeing it out of the ice.

Sadie is spayed and current on all of her vaccinations except Bordatella.  She will be visiting the RAGOM vet this week to get that vaccine and be microchipped.  Sadie knows a few commands:  sit, down.  She pulls on the leash but calmed down with the Gentle Leader. I will write again in a few days as I get to know her better!

Sadie crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday August 29, 2014. Sadie will be deeply missed, never forgotten and forever loved. Thank you RAGOM for letting Sadie steal our hearts for the past 5 1/2 years. She leaves behind her brother Sammy 09-084

From Sadie's forever family...

Sadie and Sammy had a really fun day at the picnic on September 19th. They are shown here patiently waiting for mom to fill a Ziploc bag with water for a refreshing drink after finishing the 5k walk.

After getting a quick drink we went down to the lake and retrieved endless tosses of the tennis balls. Sadie never gets tired of going after those balls.

It was a very quiet 4 hour drive back home to Iowa with 2 very tired, sleeping dogs.

Sadie has been with us for 2 months now and has adjusted well.  Sunday mornings we fix eggs for breakfast and Sadie gets cooked eggs in with her dog food.  We go for daily walks early each morning and sometimes again in the evening.  I think Sadie would rather go for a daily jog but I am not quite ready for jogging.   Sadie will not go anywhere without a tennis ball in tow and will play fetch from sun up to sun down if you let her.  She has several tennis balls but if one is missing she will hunt until all are in her possession.

We would like to thank the surrendering owners It must have been a difficult decision to let Sadie and Sammy go. Rest assured that Sadie and Sammy have made our house a home, stolen our hearts and have lots of love and neck rubs and plenty of tennis balls. They are at their forever home.

Thanks to all the volunteers involved with the transition for Sadie, our home visit family and to Sadie’s foster mom for all the love and care she gave Sadie and for allowing her to be a member of our family.

Sadie will leave/hide one of her tennis balls in the back yard (5 acres) so she can stay out and play until someone finds it for her, which is usually her brother Sammy.

Sadie here!  I was a little worried that no one would want my brother, Sammy (09-084) and me.  Sammy boy has a ridiculous looking back end right now and I really thought it would scare families away from us.  He had the goofiest tail, but I know he is happier without it.  RAGOM got his bad eye fixed too.  Even though his eye doesn't water anymore, I still lick it to keep it clean.  Foster mom tells me to knock it off, but I can't help it!  I like to take care of him!  I guess I got the good genes in the litter since I am so beautiful. 
 
Foster mom taught me a new trick with my tennis balls. When she says "leave it," I put it nicely on the green lawn chair and then she will throw it for me again.  I like that chair!

 

We went to the Petsmart doggie store and even though I was caught red handed shoplifting the tennis balls, several families fell for us!  Can you believe it?  They want both of us!  So I am packing up my brother and my tennis balls and moving to Iowa later this week to live with a wonderful family on 5 acres!  Life doesn't get any better than this!

Sadie makes me laugh!  She is so smart!  You already know she loves her tennis ball.  Well, last week I was outside the gate shoveling snow.  Out from under the gate, a tennis ball came rolling to me.  Sure enough - there was Sadie on the other side, peeking through the privacy fence slats, and waiting for me to throw it!  She continued to do this the whole time I was outside.  Of course, I threw the ball for her.  When I have had enough of the tennis ball game, Sadie is happy to play with the ball by herself. She can even throw it out and chase it herself! It's pretty funny!

Sadie had a good time with 10-week-old Cappuccino who stayed with us last weekend.  At first, she tried to pick him up by the scruff of his neck like a momma dog would do.  Soon she figured out he had teeth and wanted to wrestle!  She was happy to oblige.

Sadie and her brother, Sammy, attended the PetSmart event last weekend.  They were both perfect dogs!  They greeted all of the other dogs, people, and kids without any problems.  They were very gentle with the kids.  By the end of an hour, Sammy was sprawled on the floor asleep!  Talk about easy dogs - you have to meet them to believe it!

Sadie is doing well. She loves to play with her ball. Of course, it is great if you will throw it for her but it doesn't really matter. She will flip it and roll it around all by herself. In fact, she loves to roll it under things and then try to dig it out. I just know she is doing this on purpose, as part of a game. It's so funny to watch! 

Sadie went to the vet and got a clean bill of health. She didn't mind a bit when she got Bordatella snorted up her nose or that huge needle for the microchip. She gave kisses anyway! She weighs in at 78 pounds and needs to lose a few. She has not been eating well yet but I think that will improve with a little canned food for enticement. She has been through a big change in her life. 

My resident RAGOM boy, Skye, thinks she is pretty cute and he loves to watch her fetch a ball. He never challenges her for it -smart boy- just watches her gracefully run for it. She is very beautiful. I have to say that Sadie is a very easy foster. She has passed beginner obedience and except for pulling with a flat collar on the leash, she is very well behaved. With the Gentle Leader, she walks right beside me.
