Rex and Chi Chi Be have found their forever home together as a bonded pair!!! They are awesome dogs in every way, and we will very much miss having them in our foster home. Their adoptive family is a perfect fit. Without a doubt, they will be happy there with the endless cuddles and attention they love!
Rex had a bit of a set back having his drain put back in for an additional 3 days. The growth was large and his body needed more time to deal with the empty space. He is doing fantastic now and no longer needs the cone; we were all tired of being run into with it anyway! Rex also received a thorough bath, as much for our sake as his! His ear infections have cleared up, although we are continuing daily medication for the next couple weeks just to be safe. After that he will need any adopter to be vigilant and do weekly ear cleanings. It is the usual routine of squirting some solution in his ear and massaging it. He is used to it and does not put up a fuss. It is not that future infections are expected but important to take preventive care seriously and handle any issues asap.
These action pictures are a bit blurry but show Rex back to normal playing with Chi Chi Be. He is sporting a bad haircut from the surgery but his hair is already starting to grow back.

Rex's surgery went very well! We had a challenging four days with a drain but he is now more comfortable and getting better every day. He still has to wear the cone until the sutures are out in 10 days; it is not only an embarrassing look but makes navigating doorways and halls a real challenge. Chi Chi Be was overjoyed to see him come home after surgery, she has been keeping an eye on him but also seems to know that he needs a little space.
Here Rex is enjoying some human supervised time without the cone as well as Chi Chi Be staying close by.
Rex had very good results at his 2 week vet re-check. The vet saw better than expected improvement with ear mites/infection and thought another month of daily medication would do the trick. Such awesome news!!! I can already tell that he is much more comfortable. The next hurdle is removal of his lymphoma scheduled for later this week. I am sure he will come thru with flying colors, Chi Chi Be will wait eagerly for him to come home after his day surgery.
And as always, Chi Chi Be and Rex are side by side.
Rex is doing wonderfully in our home, he is so easy going and has adapted well to our routine. He does everything with Chi Chi Be to include occasional rough housing. Rex sleeps on the tile floor of the bathroom connected to our bedroom, saying good morning is a big deal with the obligatory petting. We have also learned Chi Chi Be and Rex love car rides. If any car door is open they will jump in and only exit with some coaxing. To satisfy them a little we have been taking them to visit our elderly mother who lives nearby. They get their car fix, Mom gets her cute dog fix, and we get someone else to help provide that much deserved attention, it's a win win! Another favorite activity is spending time outside in the yard.
