Annie is a returning RAGOM dog originally known as Bailey.
Welcome, Annie! Annie is a pure bred golden retriever, 7 years old, UTD on all vaccines, heartworm preventatives and Frontline. She’s spayed and weighs in at a perfect 53 lbs... one healthy package of energy and love!
Annie entered foster care on August 24. She came to RAGOM because her owner felt she had anxieties and would do better in a quieter environment. Now that this beauty has settled in - we haven’t noticed anything other than occasional licking. She’s shown no storm or separation anxiety, but we do crate her when we’re away (she’s left 1 - 2hrs at a time).
Observations:
• She loves human contact. When not nudging you to pet her, or rolling over for a tummy rub, she’ll be nearby on the floor quietly resting or chewing a bone
• Housebroken; comes up to you and barks once when she needs to go out
• Eats well, is treat motivated, does not beg at the table
• Free run of the house when we’re home, and doesn’t get on furniture
• At night when she’s ready to sleep she goes into her crate with door left open
• Does fine on car rides
• Knows the commands sit, stay, come, off (at least for 1 minute)
• Walks beautifully on Gentle Leader and has had no problem encountering all types of dogs, joggers, bikers, rollerbladers
• Rarely barks (has never done so on a walk)
• Likes to be bathed and brushed
Annie is a beautiful girl who most of all needs attention and affection. She has lots of energy and requires plenty of exercise to help keep her calm. (currently we walk 3-4 miles per day). Seeing the leash or a fetch toy will still set her entire body into a happy dance that’s hard to calm down (maybe that’s just who she is).
Although she loves to play fetch and drops the fetch toy at your feet- she will not release on command or let you take a fetch toy from her (this needs to be addressed through consistent training). We’re currently reinforcing all basic commands and working on her manners by teaching her to take things in her mouth gently- and she’s responding very well. She is an inside dog and we use a long cable tie out to actively play with her outside. She shouldn’t be put out and left alone, and therefore we do not think a fence is required. She would do best in a home with no other dogs and only with children whom are 10 or older.
Annie appears to be a very bright, attentive dog who will thrive in a quieter loving home with lots of attention, exercise, and routine. She will definitely make someone a wonderful golden companion!
