Audrey was adopted today by the S family. Thank you, RAGOM, for rescuing Audrey and the other dogs at the auction.

I need to apologize for not updating in a long time. Between trying to get to know Audrey better, working on Goldzilla, and my regular RAGOM volunteer work, time got away from me. So, I am sorry for the delay. The good news is she has become a very confident dog and has a wonderful family interested in adopting her. We have been working on setting up a time when they can meet her.

We want to give a special shout-out to Cindy G for giving Audrey a Paw Print on her website page at Goldzilla. Thank you for the message of Best Wishes!

Since Audrey came from a commercial breeder, I had to assume that she would be very scared of new things and new people. She was at first, but she quickly gained confidence by following my dogs’ actions. If they weren’t afraid of something, she wasn’t going to be, either. She jumps into and out of the car without thinking about it. I took her and my dogs for a ride at least every other day, so she got used to it quickly. The same with going outside in the "big, wide-open space" where there was nowhere to hide. Now she will be the first one out the door without having to wait for my dogs to go first and will stay out longer than the other dogs.

Of all of the foster dogs that I have had, Audrey has been the worst one when it comes to chewing inappropriate things. Even when I am 3 feet away, she will steal a pen off from the living room sofa table. She also likes to pull on the cords on my lamps. She will leave them alone if I have Bitter Apple on them, but I have to make sure everything is picked up when I leave the room.

Audrey has been a very special guest in our home and has fit in so well with my dogs. We have all fallen in love with her, but I cannot adopt another dog because then I wouldn’t be able to foster anymore. She will be meeting a wonderful family who is looking to add another Golden to their family. Paws crossed that the dogs get along and Audrey is what they are looking for in their new family member.

I would like to introduce you to Audrey, a beautiful 4-year-old female purebred Golden Retriever. She was surrendered to RAGOM from a commercial breeder in MO because she had been bred multiple times in the past and her pregnancies always ended up in C-sections. The breeder decided to surrender her because her surgeries became too costly.

Audrey is a petite Golden and weighs just 51 pounds. She got a clean bill of health, is now up to date on shots, and is spayed. She spent her first month at another RAGOM foster home where she learned what it was like to live in a house. Thank you again, Ginny, for doing the hard work of introducing Audrey to doors, stairs, TVs, physical attention from humans, and other dogs walking around her. She was too scared to go outside on a leash and wouldn’t relax, so she moved to my house where I have a fenced-in yard.

Audrey met my dogs in the yard with no problem and followed them right through the door into the house. She wasn’t interested in other rooms at the time and just wanted to get into the kennel where she could watch everything. Audrey never had an accident in the house because I let the dogs outside on a regular schedule (when they wake up, after they’ve eaten, and before bed) and many times in between. Now that she spends most of her time outside of the kennel, she will pace back and forth if she has to go out. She was always the first one at the door to get back inside. Now she follows my dogs around in the yard, sniffing for bunnies, but wants me in her sight. Audrey will jump into the car with no problem, but is still afraid to jump out, so it takes a few minutes for her to get out.

Audrey spends most of her time in the living room with my dogs instead of in a crate. It didn’t take her long to join them on the couch. If I am sitting on the couch, she likes to lie next to me. She has free roam when I am gone, but has taught me to clear the table off in the living room before I leave. She chewed up my computer mouse and a pair of reading glasses. She will pick up a bone and bring it by the couch. She now takes treats from my fingers and takes them very gently. Her trust grows every day!

Audrey goes back to the vet in a week to have her stitches removed. She had ear infections, so has been getting drops in her ears. On Saturday, I brought her back to the vet because her incision was getting red - it was getting infected, so she is now on antibiotics for a week. She is ready to find her forever home because she is getting too attached to me. Audrey is a real love bug and loves people!

If you have a confident resident dog that Audrey could follow and learn from, and think that she would be a great match for your family, please submit an "Inquiry for Application" form. She will need a home where she can learn at her own pace with a lot of patience.

If you have already filled out an "Inquiry for Application" form, please send an email to applicationatragom [dot] org with Audrey's name, her RAGOM number, the name you submitted the Inquiry for Application form under, and a sentence or two why you feel you'd be a good match.
