Meet Bayla! This beautiful dark red 5-year-old Golden Retriever girl came into RAGOM last week! Bayla is officially hanging up her hat from her previous job of being a mama. She is ready for her “retirement” and is already enjoying living indoors and being spoiled!

Bayla has yet to have her first vet visit, as we wanted to give her a few days to chill out a bit before subjecting her to another car ride and scary experience. We do know that she has two small mammary masses that will be removed when she is spayed and sent to make sure that they aren't cancerous, and she also has very dirty ears. Bayla is also overweight, and when we take her to the vet, we will find out just how much she weighs. I'm guessing between 85 and 90 pounds! At her vet visit, she will also be brought up to date on vaccinations, be microchipped, and have a fecal and heartworm test done. She has already gotten one bath and allowed me to clean her ears and trim her long toenails without any incident.

Bayla is shy and timid, especially around people. In the time that she has been with us, she has gone from cowering in the corner of her crate to approaching us, but she is still leery of us. We are teaching her that she can trust us. She’s not your typical happy-go-lucky Golden Retriever right now, but with continued socialization and enough time to settle in and trust, she will make a wonderful, happy dog for some lucky family! To see how much she has learned to trust us in just the few days she's been here is remarkable. With dogs, on the other hand, Bayla is more friendly and outgoing! She immediately took to my 4-year-old resident Golden, Finn, and our 10-month-old puppy, Sully. They are teaching Bayla how to come in and out of the back door and that good things come from people! Bayla has spent her whole life with other dogs and looks to them for comfort. Due to this, it is required that Bayla have another medium- to large-sized confident dog in her forever home. Bayla also requires a physical fence since she does get scared and is not easy to catch if she got really freaked out. I do keep a leash on her in case I need to catch her (I can just step on the leash), and it is recommended that her new home do the same at first. Most of the time, she will come up to me now, but there are still times that she’s a little too scared to come to me. Bayla is used to being around kids and is not afraid of them. A forever home with kids 10 or older would be a great match for her!

Bayla has not had any accidents in our home. She is crated for a full work day without any issues and she considers her crate to be her safe place. She did decide to bust out of her crate once to chase the cat, which is why we are recommending that she does not have a cat in her forever home, as she sees them as prey. She is eating well; we have started her on a measured amount of high-quality food. Bayla walks surprisingly well on a leash, although she does freeze if something is especially scary! She is willing to follow me and has gone on a few short walks so far. She is nervous about all of the new sights and sounds, but she takes it all in stride! Bayla has not shown any resource guarding and I don't expect that she ever will.

We want to thank everyone who was involved with getting these beautiful girls into RAGOM! It takes a village sometimes with these dogs, and we are so thankful that RAGOM has such awesome volunteers that are willing to do whatever it takes! We are honored to be a part of Bayla’s journey.

Do you think this beautiful girl might be a good fit for your family? Are you okay with putting in the extra work, time, and patience Bayla will need to become the dog we know she can be? If so, please contact your placement advisor! We know you will fall in love with the amazing girl as quickly as we have!

Hey, everpawdy - I am finally checking in again! Things are GReat and I am loving life!

My Foster family went on a vacation over Christmas and New Year's and I got to travel down to the Cities to stay with some other RAGOM dogs and their Mom. When my family got back, they said they missed me and my FB Buddy very much!

It got very cold for a while and we didn't do much walking as it wasn't safe for my paws and my FM says she will not try to put boots on me. The last few days, we have gotten back to it since it warmed up, and I love it. My FM & FD say I am so well-behaved on the leash.

The other night, my FM worked with me with my comb. She had combed my head, ears, and neck quite a bit in the past, but she said it was time to work the whole body. I was very good and it felt wonderful.

FD gave me something he called an elk antler the other night. I am still not quite sure what that is all about, but I did chew on it a wee little bit.

Things are still getting easier day by day. I like to woof at my FM & FD when I think it is time to get up for the day. I will jump up with my front paws and look at their faces and lick their arms. They smile and laugh. I don't counter-surf, chew inappropriate items, or jump on people. The worst I have done is steal some socks and throw them around, and sometimes I jump up on the back door to peek outside if one of my people is out there. My people here say I am a very good girl.

And before I forget - thanks to my fans for my holiday icons on my page and for following my progress!

Happy Holidays, everyone! We finally got snow last week and Bayla had a case of the zoomies that evening when everyone got home from work/school. She ran around the yard like we have never seen before and she is still trying to eat all of the remaining snow a week later.

Bayla would like to thank Maria and Herb for their generous sponsorship in memory of fellow RAGOM boy Max 15-166's adoptive mother, Roseann. May she rest in peace.

Luckily for all of us, it has still been nice walking weather. FM has noticed that cars and loud noises do not bother her anymore when we are out and about - unless it is a REALLY loud noise. Bayla is still minding her manners on the leash - a super-duper fantastic walker!

The couch is where she likes to lay in the evening and she will cuddle up to you if you sit/lay down next to her. She is still on her own terms for the most part as far as coming to you when called when she is roaming about the house. FM has been able to get her to go outside without Buddy quite a few times, which is another major accomplishment!

This is Bayla's Christmas Wish List:

  1. A nice, comfy dog bed
  2. Yummy treats to last the year round
  3. A walk or two a day
  4. A fenced-in yard
  5. A larger dog to be my new buddy
  6. A vehicle that is large enough for myself and my new buddy to tag along
  7. Adult(s) that can spend time with me
  8. Possibly a family with older kid(s) that can love me - this would be a bonus!

How about we get Bayla's New Year started off right with her very own forever family!?! She is very beautiful and may look like a high-maintenance girl, but trust me, she is very, very low-maintenance. Love and patience are her needs! Please contact your placement advisor if she may be the girl for you!

Hello to all my fans! Bayla here and I have a lot to share with you! I have been in my new foster home for about three weeks now and things are going GReat for me.

Buddy 14-009 is a jolly old fellow and my new best friend. I sure do like to follow and watch him - he is teaching me a lot of new things! In the past few weeks, these are some of the things I have accomplished:

  • Follow Buddy in and out the door
  • Ride in the car often - we take human girl to school every day and ride along running errands
  • Sleep with the adult humans in the bedroom (no crate!)
  • Take pieces of cheese from the human hands
  • Climb up on the couch and human girl's bed
  • Let the humans give me pets
  • Nap on a comfy dog bed
  • Follow the humans around to see what they are doing
  • Poke the humans on the back of the leg with my nose
  • Go for long walks with my best friend Buddy

There is so much more I could say and life is more exciting each and every day. I am learning that my tail is for wagging and I can let my tongue hang out. My humans say I get more and more beautiful each day as I am slowly but surely becoming a "pet." I am excited to go for car rides, I have excellent leash manners, and I do my business outside. My humans tell me that I am a very good girl and easy to care for. My fur is very soft, I am a stunning beauty, and I do not have any health issues!

Maybe I sound right for your family? Do you have a fenced yard and a confident dog that would be my mentor? I would love these things in my forever home! Some older kids that can be patient with me would also be GReat, but not required.

Please let your placement advisor know if you are interested in me - I would love to meet you!

Bayla has recovered from her spay surgery. Since she has had so many litters of puppies without her body having time to heal, it was not a routine spay for the vet. There was a lot of scar tissue that had adhered her uterine horns to her bladder, so the surgery itself took hours longer than it should have while the vets worked to complete the spay while not damaging her bladder. They were concerned about the viability of her bladder in the days following her surgery, but she is a fighter and pulled through with no bladder issues after everything started to heal. Bayla also had 2 masses that we had removed. After removing them, it was determined that they were cysts, so no mammary cancer for this sweet girl! Bayla is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, has had a negative heartworm test and fecal test, and is a healthy girl!

Bayla has moved to a new foster home in Fargo, ND, due to her strong prey drive towards the cats in our home. So Bayla needs a home with no cats or small creatures. Otherwise, she gets along beautifully with every dog she has met, and is learning quickly that people are nice to have around! She's also learning to enjoy car rides and happily jumps into the car for a new adventure. Stay tuned as her new foster mom sends in updates on Bayla and how well she's doing in her new foster home!
