Welcome Bean to RAGOM! She has been with us for 7 days and she is so easy and relaxed that I can't believe it. I have seen no anxieties in this time and we have gone through bad thunderstorms and a large group gathering with little kids, men, women, elderly people, small dogs, and large dogs. Also, she went to a vet check with ease and a toenail clip at a "spa" with the greatest grace. She is such an easy little girl and now has gained the nickname Princess Bean from our granddaughters. Bean is a small Golden mix, but looks mostly Golden with a short smooth coat. She is only 44 pounds and is a little bit underweight.

Bean lived with one loving family, however several different members of the family, for her first 8 years. She came into RAGOM as the family is moving and cannot take her with them. She lived with small children and 3 cats.

This is what we know about her after one week. She greets people at the door and neighbors with friendly wags and no barking. She loves her people and will follow us around the house. She will occasionally carry toys around, but does not chew on them or anything else. She wants lots of attention and will sleep at your feet when you are busy. She has free roam of the house with no problems whatsoever. We were told from the surrendering owner that she does not like a crate, but we see no reason that she needs one. She is completely house trained. She loves to be outside and shows no anxiety to leave the yard. Our yard is completely fenced, but she did not have a fenced yard in her previous home and she would go out and come back in after doing her thing. She does show interest in chipmunks and looks for them throughout my garden. She comes energetically when she is called and is so happy that you want her to come to you. She knows "sit," "lie down," and "stay." She loves car rides and boat rides, any way that she can get a breeze in her face. She does not seem to have been around water much as she splashes in it a little, but seems surprised when it splashes back! She has not yet ventured in it to go swimming. At our house, she has 2 foster brothers who are 10 and 11 years old and they get along great. She is not very interested in playing with them, however, and probably would not like to wrestle with a younger dog. She has no resource guarding at all. She does love to sleep in the bed at night, but is also fine when we ask her to get down. There is evidence that she is on the couch when we are gone, but she never gets on furniture in front of us.

Bean had a vet check this week and everything came back great, except for the blood profile. One blood test is abnormal and we think she has a liver infection. She is currently on antibiotics and we will recheck her blood test again in 2 weeks. We expect that the antibiotics will clear things up. She is now up-to-date on all vaccinations and testing. She will be unavailable for adoption until we get her blood test results back in 2 weeks. She seems completely healthy by her behavior. However, she is totally available to show interest in and to ask questions about.

Also, the surrendering owner told us that she has seizures about once every 6 weeks. We have not seen one yet and our vet says he does not want to treat her for these until we see one and see how bad they are and how long they last. The vet also said that a new environment could change everything and she may not have another one.

This is what I think Bean will need in a forever home:

  • Lots of attention and love. She is such a little lover and only wants you to love her back. She will be extremely loyal to you for this.
  • She will do well with children and people of all ages. She would like activity in the house, but is fine with quiet time and just sleeps while she is waiting for more attention.
  • Of course, we would love to see her in a home with a fenced yard as it gives her free roam, but this is not necessary.
  • She will do fine with children, elderly people, cats, and other dogs, but will not like to wrestle much with younger energetic dogs.
  • That's it! We think Bean will fit in wonderfully in many homes. She just wants her people to love her and show her that.

If you think Bean will be a good fit for you (and why wouldn't she), please talk to your placement advisor about her. We would be happy to tell you more!
