Jenna came a long way in the weeks that she was with us. She is still learning what things are not for her to chew on, but will drop the item when told to. When I am going to be gone, I make sure there is nothing within her reach that she shouldn’t have and she has a frozen bone with peanut butter available.
Jenna was invited to be on Twin Cities Live with Katie K9 to represent RAGOM. She was a super star and loved the attention that she got! Here are pictures of her with Elizabeth Reis and Emily Engberg, and with Katie K9.
Jenna was adopted by the D family. She now lives with her mom, dad, sister, and fur brother. She hit the jackpot, because her mom and dad work from home, which will help with her separation anxiety.
We miss you Jenna, but am very happy for you!

Jenna was moved to my home in Ham Lake, MN, a few weeks ago because I am retired and home during the day. Jenna displayed separation anxiety in her previous foster home when her foster parents were at work.
At both homes, she was with our resident dogs, but that didn’t seem to matter to her. I have been working with her to help her understand that we will come back after being gone.
At first, she got nervous when I just went to the basement. She definitely cannot be kenneled because this raises her anxiety and she finds a way to break out of the kennel. Luckily, she did not hurt her mouth after bending the wires on the crate in her first foster home.
I set up a security camera to watch her activity while I am gone. She stood on the couch for the first 2 hours, just looking out the window and waiting for me to return.
Then, for the next hour, she paced between the couch and the kitchen door where I would come through. Boy, did she sleep soundly that night!
The next time I was gone, I made sure that she had a good workout that afternoon before I had to leave. That time, she slept for the first hour and watched from the couch until I returned.
Jenna is a counter-surfer, so I cannot have anything on the counter within her reach. I found this out when I was gone for an hour, and she got the jar of peanut butter and brought it into the living room.
I left it out because I have to give my senior dog her pills with it twice a day. Jenna chewed the cover off and chewed the entire rim of the jar. She couldn’t reach the peanut butter because there was only 1.5 inches left in the jar.
I put the peanut butter into another container and put it into the cupboard where it should have been. Then, I made a dumb mistake.
I filled the jar with hot water to let it soak, and that night, after we went to bed, Jenna pulled the jar full of water from the sink and carried that into the living room! She didn’t spill much in the kitchen but dumped the water in the living room!
So, even when I am home, she gets into things because she spent years living in her kennel and never learned what is not for her!
The next day, she went into the bathroom and carried my 34-oz bottle of shampoo from the bathtub into her dog bed and started chewing on the pump! When there is nothing inappropriate available for her to chew on, she is happy chewing on her favorite Nylabone. I just have to make sure things are out of her reach.
I took Jenna to the vet for her booster shots and asked about medication for her anxiety. The vet suggested trying Trazodone only for times when I will be gone for hours.
I tried one dose one evening when I was home working on a project, to see how it would affect her. It made her sleep for hours instead of just relaxing her. Next time, we will cut the dosage.
She also still had an ear infection that didn’t clear up after her first visit, so I got drops for her ears.
Jenna is a real sweetheart when she is with me and loves attention! She has started playing with my dogs outside, but quits when they start wrestling. She loves keeping the squirrels out of the yard and fetching her tennis balls.
If you have a medium- to large-sized, confident resident dog that Jenna could follow and continue to learn from and think that she would be a great match for your family, we would love to chat with you. She will need a home where someone is home most of the time.

Jenna seems to be displaying anxiety when her humans leave for the day. She has become more and more reluctant to go into her kennel when Foster Mom and Dad go to work.
Jenna has not earned free roam when there are only animals in the house, as she still can get into trouble. Several days ago, she broke out of her kennel. Jenna thankfully did not hurt herself, but it was decided to move her to another foster home where someone was home most of the time to work on this issue.
So, for the time being, Jenna is unavailable for adoption. Please continue to read her updates and progress as she conquers this new challenge.
We will miss this sweet, loving girl, but know that she will thrive with her new Foster Mom. You will always have a piece of our hearts, Jenna!

Jenna is a beautiful 4-year-old (date of birth: April 5, 2014) girl who came to us as a breeder surrender. Her last litter was about eight weeks ago.
She is adapting to her new home with grace and resilience. It continually amazes me how wonderfully accepting these dogs are with all the changes, given some time, patience, and lots of love and encouragement.
Jenna met our resident Saint Bernard, Talluah Mae, and MN Newfoundland Rescue foster, Niko (Nikolas), with ease. She also has met both resident kitties with no issues.
She was hesitant of coming into the house, but with a small amount of “You can do it, brave girl!” she mastered the door like a pro! She followed Niko and me out the back door, down the stairs, and into the back yard only after several attempts.
I think that the trailing 25-foot check cord was very strange for her. Even though we have a fenced-in yard, it is always good to do that with any new dog for at least a couple of days, if not longer, just to be on the safe side.
As you can see by the videos, she loves being outside, playing with her friend Niko and retrieving her toy.
Jenna is a friendly, loving girl. She likes both women and men equally. Give her a couple of pets and you will be rewarded with a wagging tail to tell you how nice that feels. She already has that Golden lean and Golden bump to show you she wants more!
Jenna has not had any accidents in the house since she has been with us. Her safe spots are in corners of the room, under tables, and being close to you or another dog. She does not like crates or kennels.
Jenna loves her treats so long as she is not anxious. She is learning to sit for them and is doing well with this training.
She also likes helping--cleaning the counter, doing dishes, and making sure that nothing is left on the table. The "off" command (four on the floor) is a work in progress!
Jenna is up to date on her vaccinations and was spayed on June 26th. She has gotten a clean bill of health and, even though she looks petite, weighs 60 pounds.
Darling Jenna has a personality that will make you fall in love as soon as you meet her. She likes riding in the car, does not appear to have any storm anxiety, and has not displayed any resource guarding with either humans or other animals.
We do not know if she likes to swim, but she does like to fetch her toys.
Jenna’s family will need to have another medium to large, confident dog; a fenced-in yard; and no children under ten years of age.
