He was found in a field--cold, dirty, hungry & alone. Hi everybody.  I am at a new place & I like it a lot.  I get to be in the house with my choice of comfy dog beds, good food at regular times AND yummy treats, a great fur foster brother and this lady who told me I could call her Mommy while I am here.  Someday, I hope to get my very own Mom or Dad.
They call me this funny name Benny or Ben or sometimes Benjamin, but I found out good things happen when I answer when they call.
Foster Mom Here -- yes, Benny's story is a sad one.  He was found in a field: cold, wet, dirty, & hungry.  He was taken to a shelter and rescued by RAGOM and now lives with us in Iowa.
If Ben was dumped or simply lost, we do not know.  He is an older boy, at least ten, 72 lbs. red-gold & kinda like his foster Mom, doesn't see or hear the best.  The first week he was here, Ben would almost panic if he couldn't see me--running around the house searching.  I guess he was afraid I was leaving him.  He had a couple potty incidents & a rummaging through the kitchen trash. Benny is older and with that comes wisdom & he now realizes good food is always here and I won't leave him forever.
Ben walks nicely with a spring to his step on a flat collar, potties quickly when he goes outside (unlike bro Jackson who has to circle 23 times to find the perfect blade of grass!).
Benny greets everyone of every age with a tail wag & a smile & LOVES belly rubs.  He is interested in squirrels & bunnies, do not know yet about cats.
The perfect home is going to take a special someone.  If you are looking for an easy companion that is happy with short walks, will love you unconditionally and is happy to be by your side, then Ben is your guy.  He has perfect house manners but I do not think think he has had alot of interaction with his previous family.  I've taught him to sit and that's his entire trick repertoire.  He loves pets, greets you merrily but he is not a cuddle bunny.  I believe that will come with time & trust.  If you are looking to help and love and be adored by an older gentleman, inquire about Mr. Ben.
Benny has had his shots, is micro-chipped, needs yet to be neutered & his beautiful fur coat is already improving with proper nutrition.  Yep, Ben has come a long way in just a couple of weeks.

Ben's hair is growing in from his surgery.

Hi Peeps!  It's me, Benny.  My foster Mommy said I should write to you and tell you my story. I was sick, really sick and I was in the doggy hospital for awhile.  I got something called a defection or refection or maybe it was infection and they made me wear this thing on my head all the time and it made me sad and kinda scared, but yep, now I am feeling super duper.  I missed my Mom and fur bro Jackson and so happy to be with them again.  Mommy has been feeding me really good yummies and lots of treats, cause she said I look kinda scrawny. The nerve of her, I think I look handsome and very dignified.  Oh man, I think the treat jar just opened, sorry gotta go.
Benny got busy, so I will finish his story.  As I stated earlier, Benny has had a rough go in life and when he went in for his big "N" surgery, things did not go well.  Before I realized it, Ben had an infection throughout his body.  After wonderful medical care and a strong spirit, I am happy to say he is back to his quirky little self.
Before he was ill, I felt that if he had a chance, he would take off.  Not now, he knows when he has a good thing going.  He enjoys looking at the world go by and loves to follow me all around when I am doing yard work.  He is a loyal guy that likes to be close and know where I am.  Ben is always ready, trotting along on our shorter walks and he loves, loves, LOVES car rides.  Benny does have a mind of his own and lets you know what he wants or needs.  He also loves the kitchen trash can, so I am the one that needs to remember to keep it shut.
As I stated before, Benny is not just for anybody.  He greatly enjoys greeting everyone with his cute little dance and other dogs are fine with him.  I think he would do best in a more laid-back kind of household.  I never had a hard of hearing dog before but have found that it really is not an issue.  Because Ben is older, he does like his naps.  If you have love to spare and are a nurturer, Ben needs you.  He deserves to have these later years of his life to be love-filled with a family of his very own.

Guess what -- Benny passed with flying colors!!  The whole family visited last weekend for three days with people of all ages: lots of laughing, hub-bub and three other dogs in the house and Benny loved every minute of it.  He loved all the attention, couldn't have cared less about the other dogs and when he needed a break, found his pillow and took a nap.  It was the consensus of everyone that Ben was sweet, affectionate and a very easy boy to have around.  On the second night, two of my grand-daughters were sleeping on the floor and Benny was soon snuggled up between them.  They loved it.

Last week, Ben & Jack went to the beauty parlor and Benny was a perfect gentleman.  He loves the car, happily hops in, lays down and never makes a peep.

Spa day.  Mommy says I look beautiful, but I have a cowlick.  Silly Mommy, I'm not a cow!!
Ben continues to relax and is becoming more secure.  He loves his walks, does not like to go outside in the dark (I go with him on last potty break of the night) and really enjoys people of all ages.  He does NOT like the heat.  He continues to be the messiest eater I know.  Next week, Ben visits the vet for the big surgery (I'm not telling him) and will also have some dental work done while he is asleep.  When he is recovered (a week or so) from all that, he will be ready for his forever home.  Please give this sweet boy some consideration.  He is very spry and a good sport with new experiences. He is a good guy and certainly deserves to be doted on, loved, pampered and will give you loyalty and great joy.
