Berkeley 13-211

Profile

It is our pleasure to introduce our newest foster … meet Berkeley.  This girls has it all – she was well socialized throughout her life and extremely loved by her family, is already spayed and was kept up to date on all her vetting to include being microchipped, went to obedience training and knows her verbal and hand commands well, completely house trained and trustworthy, understands how to co-exist with other dogs and a cat, walks great on an Easy Walk harness and can even go off leash and stay by your side … she is really a very nice girl.  Her family made a list of words to describe Berkeley:  Sensitive, Loving, Special, Smart … all of these are true!

So why did Berkeley come into RAGOM?  Unfortunately, Berkeley was not fond of the one year old who wanted to give her hugs.  Although Berkeley did show good dog language and would walk away from the child, let’s face it keeping track of a one year old can be a full-time job, there was an incident and Berkeley bit the child.  Because of this Berkeley should go to a home with older children.  I can say that Berkeley has met several children (6-12 years old) in our neighborhood and she was very nice to them, even gave them each a little kiss.  She is not a mean spirited dog; she’s actually very sweet and a little cautious when you first met her.

Berkeley is a 6 year old Golden/Husky mix, but when I first saw her I thought she might be a Golden/Collie mix because of her long nose and long legs.  Berkeley has many of the Golden traits.  As I’m typing this update she keeps nudging me with her nose so I will pay attention to her.  If that doesn’t work, she will use her paw on my leg.  Berkeley is not loud or overly barky, but will let you know if someone comes to the door.

When we introduced her to our resident pack she was shy more than anything.  Normally all toys are put away during the first week to lessen potential issues, but Berkeley came here with toys of her own so I thought it would be interesting to see what she would do.  Happily there have been zero issues.  In fact, other than the initial adjustment period, she has made herself right at home.  So far, Berkeley has not participated in any game playing with our residents, but will gladly play chase with us.  She will help our furkids keep a watchful eye on the yard, gotta make sure those squirrels and bunnies stay away.

Berkeley’s favorite place is on her dog bed with her head resting on a stuffed toy.  She is also getting more relaxed and finds my couch to be very comfortable, as well as, in front of the fireplace.

If you think Berkeley would fit into your family, please contact placement.
