Bo was adopted today by Roberta and Gerard. He will have a 6' high privacy fence in his new back yard as well as a nature trail a couple of blocks away. His new mom and dad both work from home and will be spoiling him rotten.

Bo would like to send a special Thank You to Lucy for purchasing a paw at Goldzilla. Your donation helps immensely and is greatly appreciated.

Bo has really come a long way in the month of September. His daily training and behavior modification for separation anxiety have done wonders to make him more independent. During our training session on Friday, I had to run downstairs to answer the work phone and respond to a couple of emails. When I went back upstairs, he hadn’t budged from his “place”. Yay Bo! Lots of treats and praise!

When he first arrived, he would sleep on the floor at the foot of my bed. Now he is sleeps at the bottom of the stairs or in his bed in the living room. However, he DOES love to snuggle on the couch if invited.

We attended Goldzilla on September 9th. Bo meet a lot of nice people and lots of dogs, but it was a little overwhelming for him. We stayed off to the side of the action so he didn’t feel so stressed. When people and dogs approached slowly and politely, he was fine.

We are continuing to work on socialization skills and have gotten ear scratches and pets from neighbors on our walks. He gets SO excited for walks that he happily bounces and prances until he gets his harness and leashes on.

He is also getting along much better with my resident dog and seems to enjoy having a canine companion around. His approach to play is more appropriate and he has gotten better at recognizing when his foster brother wants to be left alone.

There were a few minor thunderstorms a couple of weeks ago and he didn’t even need his Thundershirt. He took cues from my resident dog and slept right through them. However, I think he would still need the Thundershirt and most likely Trazodone for fireworks or major storms.

We are celebrating the baby steps Bo has made in the past month and he is much improved. However, his adoptive family would have to be committed to continuing his training and exercise routine. He would pay them back with undying love.

Can you believe Bo is 9 years old?

Bo is back in RAGOM’s care after a change in his previous adopter’s work schedule. This handsome, senior boy is an absolute love bug and has been well trained. He knows sit, stay, down, and out. He is also learning what "excuse me" means when he is in the way.

Bo wants nothing more than to be near you—he loves his people. His coat may be black, but he has the whole "Golden paw" thing down pat. His recent vet check showed him to be in remarkable shape for a dog his age. He is up to date on all vaccinations and medications, and he is microchipped.

I suspect that Bo has always been an only dog. While he likes other dogs, he is still learning how to share space and resources with another canine companion. Bo does not like overly excited dogs getting in his face and likes to take his time meeting other dogs.

I have found that nightly walks with my resident dog have helped him settle in over the past couple of weeks. Bo is learning that other dogs don’t always want to play and to initiate politely.

Bo has a history of anxieties to both storms and separation. A Thundershirt does wonders for him on stormy days as well as garbage/recycling day with big trucks rumbling down the street. In the past, he has broken out of crates and has been known to jump through window screens to be with his family.

Bo’s previous foster family worked full time and Bo was alone all day. He was fine if he wasn’t given access to windows or doors he could jump out of. We are following a daily training/relaxation protocol to help Bo gain confidence and ease his anxieties. If storms are in the forecast, Trazadone also helps take his nervousness down a couple of notches.

Bo’s perfect family is either retired, stay at or work from home, or work in an office environment that is dog-friendly. Bo could be an only dog in that situation. However, he is learning to take comfort in having another calm, confident dog around to model relaxed behavior.

A 6-foot privacy fence would be ideal, but he also respects my 4-foot chain link fence if someone is outside with him. His previous family had an invisible fence and Bo did fine so long as other dogs didn’t encroach on his space. Potential adopters will need to continue training and recognize that he may always have some separation anxiety.

Bo would make a wonderful addition to the right home.
