Miss Brandi has been adopted. This angel girl is home now with her new mom, dad, and 11-year-old brother Manning (Lab) who will also help guide her with his gentle personality. Brandi took to her new family very quickly, and it was just heartwarming to see this. We just never know how things will go, and this time, she definitely picked the new family. Yes, still skittish, but comfortable. Her new family is very experienced with dogs and rescue, and yes, these breeder dogs with all the quirks they come with. She also will have a nice, fenced-in yard and someone home almost all the time. She will be loved so much, walked, and maybe work their way up to canine classes in time. What a great family, and we definitely miss her. She is such a doll baby and has come a long way. She will have the patience and guidance to keep moving forward and have a great Golden Life. This family drove a long way to meet Miss Brandi, and thank you all for coming such a long way for this special Golden girl. I want to thank Ben and our great sponsors, the Brolin family! Such a big help in the village of RAGOM rescue! Thank you all. Brandi, I miss you, baby girl…

A HUGE THANK YOU and recognition for some new things for our Brandi!

First to Ben for the donation and note!  How kind of you and we are so appreciative. Yes, she is indeed a total beauty inside and out and never to have to be a mama again. Thank you very much, Ben.

Second:  a Giant thank you to Brolin family for SPONSORING our lovely mama girl! We are very happy and thankful for this generous gift of sponsorship. These are such deserving Goldens, and RAGOM is so thankful for such generosity. Thank you, BROLIN family!

Love, Brandi

Brandi is doing wonderfully. She like the rest of us, is enjoying this great late-summer time. She really likes her walks, and I cannot get over how well she does. She is so nice to walk and can go a fair way and really seems to enjoy that time. We, of course, keep trying to face new, different things on the walks, and she is getting it (large for-sale signs, traffic, other people/dogs, etc.). She just glistens in the sun: so beautiful. She still is not used to what a dog treat is. Still loves her cheese, though. Sometime I will land on something she thinks is tasty. She is spending more and more time outside the big crate and in a doggie bed behind a chair, but does so well. She will follow me all over the house and is going inside and out with the other 2 better all the time. She frolics out in backyard when she thinks you are not looking. So nice to see, and wow, can she move. She continues to do just fine going in and out of the vehicle(s). Really only heard her bark once, maybe when we first got her; otherwise, not a peep. Just an amazing Golden who is ready for that forever home.

Brandi girl is progressing well. We just love her. Gosh, what a lovely baby. She is really enjoying her walks and does walk beautifully. She remains intimidated by new humans on the walks yet. She walks at a great pace and stays right on my left side (2 leads). She is doing so well going in and out of the vehicle, too. Jumps right in and out. She has been to the groomer 2X now. The first time was a little iffy when she got a bath – was quite scared of the towel and the new place. So no brushing or trimming, just a bath and home.

On the second time, she did much better. She stood on the table and allowed herself to be brushed and trimmed. She was only there a little more than an hour. We will do a 3rd next week just for the exposure and experience as well. Our groomer and facility/staff are just fantastic and are so helpful to these new, scared, and shy RAGOM dogs. Baby steps and small exposure(s) to the outside world. She has free roam now with her crate door open all the time. All 3 dogs and cats are totally fine. She prefers to eat close to or in her crate. Her diet is dry kibble (Taste of the Wild) with a small amount of moist dog food/cooked chicken/hamburger and rice mixture… 2X a day. I think perhaps she has put on a couple of pounds. Brandi is in great shape and nice and lean. Maybe 49 pounds.

Her coat is so beautiful now. Such a pretty redhead! Her spay incision is completely healed. When she is out in the back yard, she is very content and happy. She is completely housetrained. It is fun once we are out there to give chase to her, and she comes back for more. Loves to roll and run in between the hedge and the fence. She will definitely run fast in and out the door, so very typical for her. She is always the first one inside! She is enjoying the loves and kisses I give her. It still takes time for her to come up to you - depends on when and what is going on. Newer big things still frighten her, and you will see her trot off and hear the nails clicking on the non-carpeted floors back to her safe corner or crate.

Brandi is an amazing foster. Such a beautiful Golden girl and a perfect petite size. She enjoys being petted and sitting near you. Brandi is a little stressed out at times from frequent visits with our newest grandson (about 4 weeks old) and would much prefer the quieter home. Brandi has come a long way, though. She is still a nervous Nellie, but is making much progress. She will follow the other dogs in and out, but is not really buddies with them. She is more independent and interested in following me and playing chase or something outside. She loves cheese for snacks and has the softest mouth ever. She sleeps perfectly well, all nicely, and never makes a peep. I have a feeling in the right home, she may enjoy being in bed with her new family someday. She needs a very patient family who truly enjoys a dog and the rewards which comes with such a lovely little beauty. Brandi would make a good walker or runner with somebody, too, with dedication, practice, and love.

Miss Brandi is healing so well from her spay. She never licked her incision area at all and is now all healed up. We have been taking her for rides in the car to get her used to going in and out of a vehicle. We take the dogs to a large park area where it is quieter. [There is a lot of construction going on in our area now… sidewalks blocked, lots of heavy equipment, etc.] We use a harness along with the martingale collar, and it works great. Brandi walks very nicely; however, she still not sure which side she wants yet!

Seeing Brandi in action in our backyard (fenced, of course - a must), prancing around, running behind the hedge next to the fence, rolling on the grass, is just so wonderful and heartwarming! She has a beautiful gait, too. She has now (a few times) play-bowed with me. So far, she has no real interest in playing with the other two dogs; however, they (our two resident dogs) do not really play much anyhow. Brandi is not sure what to do with a toy (ball or soft toy) outside at all yet. Still all very new. Fun seeing her run and enjoy herself. If there is an unfamiliar noise, she will abruptly stop yet and perk up to see what is was…

She remains her nervous or cautious self with new things and sounds (inside or out). She can startle easily, but the good thing is you can redirect her easily. Brandi is definitely a "follower" and needs to really trust her "leader" so she remains confident. She is dependent more on me versus the other dogs. She and I have developed a good trust, and that will be what she will need in a new home. If you have experience with very shy dogs, puppy mill dogs, or just nervous dogs, you will more likely understand Brandi and her special needs. Once she is near you (i.e., in the bathroom, sitting in den), she is comfy and enjoys being next to you [like Tim on the swing with her in above photo]. I would be willing to guess that Brandi would love to jump up on a soft couch or bed and be next to a human. (We don’t invite our foster dogs to do that, as we feel that should be an adopter’s choice, plus she was just spayed a short time ago.) I think if someone would like a bed-buddy or couch-buddy, she may probably really enjoy that. Brandi has never had an accident in the house, and you can tell when she needs to go out… She gives subtle clues and no issues at all there. Sometimes she will go off the deck by herself and go, and other times I walk out into the yard with her.

These Goldens are so rewarding for us in watching their daily emotional growth and all the little steps it takes to get there; it really warms the heart. Such a little peanut she is!

She has a very lovely dark red/sorrel coat, curly under her rear end, and long feathering on her legs. She can use a few pounds yet. She eats 2X a day dry kibble with moist mixed in. If she had her way, she would prefer no one watch her eat. We just leave the food dish in the large wire crate (door closed) and ignore her, and she eats right up. The other two resident dogs are eating in the same area as well. She prefers drinking from the silver bucket hung inside her crate (like they do at boarding) versus a water bowl. She loves cheese and will at times take from my hand (such a GENTLE mouth!), cut up hot dogs, hard-boiled eggs… She is not sure about some real dog treats yet.

Each day we work on trying to build her confidence, keeping a consistent schedule, and just enjoying her. She has come a VERY LONG way from the shelter and her life before. Brandi is an incredibly lovely, beautiful Golden girl!

A short update on our Brandi. She is now spayed and everything went well. She is being treated for chronic ear infection in both ears. She weighs 50 pounds. She is completely up to date including boosters and Frontline and Heartgard preventatives. She is healing great. Everyone at the clinic fell in love with her; she is such a doll. She has a great personality and is doing just fine with the pack. Brandi will use her crate just fine. I work about 3-4 hours a day, and she is fine with being crated for that time period (mornings).  I have only heard one little bark so far. We still feed her in her crate, and she is eating better now as her anxiety/nervousness is much better. (We are always very respectful of multiples and feeding times.) We had a thunderstorm today and did not see any issues with that (like our Maggie). Brandi sleeps quietly all night in a large bathroom right off our master bedroom on a big doggie bed. (baby-gated at night, as she is a new foster yet). However, we observe that she is house trained and have not had an accident. Brandi loves to follow/trot with me in the large backyard, too. She stays right next to me. We are waiting a bit for longer walks due to her spay, but she seems to walk just fine. You can see she really enjoys Tim (on a swing in the last update), too! She is learning all the new noises, inside and out, and is adjusting well. She has come to learn to really trust us, which is a big step. She has shown some interest (a little) in a few soft toys and a Nylabone. She is a dog who will love to follow you and know where you are and what is going on no matter what room you are in! Brandi is such a beautiful dog with a huge fluffy tail and gorgeous feathering and darker coat.

Want cuddles?

Monday, August 7, 2017

Brandi is a retired mamma who is 6 1/2 years old and a little peanut at 50 pounds. She is skittish and will need a confident dog as well as a physical fence in her forever home. Brandi came into rescue from a breeder who retired her. There is much we do not know about her factually. She is listed as being born in December 2010, which we feel is accurate. She is a very petite little girl, weighing in at 50 pounds. She is a dark sorrel color and has a beautiful coat, tail, and curly rear tush. She is such a beautiful Golden. Brandi is a very skittish girl, but is really making great strides each day. Big noises, etc. are alarming to her, but for a very short second or so. [Small children would scare her.] She crates well. She does fine with our pack – consisting of 2 dogs: one female white/black Border Collie/Eskie mix (Maggie), who is a senior, and one male Pembroke Corgi (Eddie), who is 8. She ignores the senior cats (3).

A big quality/bonus of Brandi is she does like human contact with patience . She really enjoys the large fenced-in backyard, which she definitely will need as she may bolt. Such a lovely Golden Retriever! We very MUCH enjoy her. She is current on everything and chipped and now will be getting spayed soon!
