Bridget will be 5 years old on December 22 .  She got an early birthday and Christmas present this year when she was brought to RAGOM.  Ruby is a retired mama from South Dakota who was dropped off at a humane society on 10-31 and then spent time in a boarding facility until she arrived at our house on 11-10.  She came in at the same time with Emma (15-296) and Ruby (15-297).  We had both Ruby and Bridget for 3 weeks.  When they were not making any progress, it was decided to separate them.

She is a beautiful darker red golden.  She is petite - she has never been weighed but we would guess she is 50-55#.  She is up to date on all of her immunizations and was heartworm negative.  She was treated for worms along with Ruby and Emma.  She will need a vet exam soon and then be spayed.

Bridget was like a wild mustang when we attempted to put a leash on her for the first several weeks.  We were not able to touch her until a week ago.  But, wow, is she making progress every day.  Today was a milestone when we took her for a walk for the first time.  We are now able to pet her and she will lie beside us on the floor when we're sitting in the living room.  She is still very, very skittish and runs away with any sudden movements or noises.  She is just starting to be part of the pack (our 4 resident goldens) and watches what they do all the time.  Her crate is her safe spot and she has just started coming out of it on her own.  She has had no accidents in her crate or anywhere in the house.  She is not treat/food motivated at all and it takes her quite awhile to eat her meals.

Bridget is definitely a work in progress - but we are amazed at the progress she makes every single day.  She is learning to trust.

First of all, thank you to Sharron Thomson for making a donation in Bridget's name.

Bridget continues to make progress, but her progress continues to be very, very slow.  She has been spayed and recovered without any problem.  She is now taking Prozac daily with the hopes that it will calm her down.  So far, we have not seen any big difference but have been told not to expect anything noticeable for several months.

The biggest change is that she is now making eye contact with us and holding the eye contact!  She knows her name also.  She will run towards us when we call her name - but then run past us to one of her 'safe spots.'  She has three safe spots with dog beds:  living room, kitchen, and bedroom closet.  She runs between these 3 areas.  She doesn't 'dash' as much but she still runs.  She doesn't pace quite as much either. Interestingly, she doesn't walk  too badly on a leash - doesn't pull at all but does frequently bump into the leg of the person she is walking with.  We've been walking her with the other dogs through the golf course next door.

She is eating better.  She now eats as soon as we put the food down.  She only eats by herself when no one is around.  She does mill around the other 4 dogs while they are eating - but will not eat with them.  Also she is now eating treats - but again, only when we put the treat down and walk away.  She weighs 55#.

She does not interact with our 4 dogs at all.  She has no interest in toys or stuffed animals.  We had 2 guests with their 2 dogs one day and she tolerated the extra people and dogs with no problem.  There was a cat walking around at the vet clinic which didn't seem to bother her.

We work from home so she has not been home alone very much. We left her in her crate for a couple of hours one day and while we were gone, she shredded her bedding.  So we put the crate away and have let her have free roam with the other dogs when we're gone - and there have been no problems.

We are eagerly awaiting her first tail wag.  We've had her 3 months now and every day we think that this might be the day.  She continues to run away from us whenever we walk towards her.  If we get down on the floor next to her, she won't run.  She tolerates us touching her but usually pulls away.  One day, I sat on the closet floor with her and rubbed her under her collar.  She closed her eyes and then put her head on the floor!

It's hard to get pictures as she runs when we hold up the camera. But I was able to take one picture when she was in her safe spot in the kitchen before she ran away.

Bridget's face is starting to relax and she is beautiful!  The name Bridget means strength.  She is being a very strong girl as she learns how to be a dog.
