Bud 08-553

Profile

Bud arrived here yesterday from Iowa. He is a 2-3 year old with beautiful coloring. I think the Bud is short for Butterscotch because of his light blond coat.

Bud gets along with other dogs. I have Trucker 08-370 staying with me for a couple weeks and these two have become fast friends. Last night Bud comfortably jumped up on beds and furniture so I know he was an indoor dog at some point in his life. He quickly got down when instructed to do so.

More on this cutie as we get to know him.

I have not been able to bring myself to write this email, but am sad to say that my buddy of nearly nine years crossed the rainbow bridge on Tuesday, August 15th. Bud (08-553) lived such a fun and happy life. He began to lose use of his back legs and was on quite a few meds for seizures and his diminishing use of hind legs. I monitored him very closely as I did not want him to be in any pain. He woke up on Tuesday, Aug. 15th and did not have any interest in eating or drinking (even delicious homemade sloppy joes). Bud and I went for 4-5 walks per day but he was not interested in a walk either. He was telling me that it was time and I promised him that I would listen. I helped him cross the rainbow bridge that evening. He spent his last days with extended family at the cabin.

Bud lived a full and happy life…he was my buddy and was always at my side. My house feels very empty but my tears of sadness also include tears of joy because of the nine years of great memories we had together.

Thank you RAGOM for bringing Bud in to my life…he is gone but never forgotten!

From Bud's forever family...

This is Bud. Only part Golden, but a full Golden lovebug! Bud came to RAGOM after being found as a stray and living in a home in Iowa for a few months. Bud came into my life forever on December 6th, 2008. Bud was a "free roamer" and did not heed a recall. After graduating from Doggy Obedience 2, this is a picture of Bud happily sprinting back to me as I call his name. The photo catches Bud in his mid "body shake" that he does when he is excited! Thanks RAGOM!!

From Bud's dad:

I took Bud to the ice rink today to "skate" around with some friends. They were bringing their 2 year old son skating for the first time so I decided to bring my 2 year old skating too!!! He loved it. He figured out the ice very quickly and then we played in the snow. We begin obedience training on Thursday. We have already been working on things and he catches on very quickly (unless he is distracted then it is a different story!). We go to the local tennis courts so that he can run around without many distractions and he is doing well at his recall.

I am getting to know Bud(derscotch) better. First and foremost, this blond beauty needs a fence. He was surrendered due to frequent running. Once he was found over 10 miles away! And I can see it. Last week he got out while I was heading out to work. The sneaky little buggar went right between me and the screen door, and away he flew, down the street, oblivious to my pleas of return. He did stop to visit a neighbor dog on the block and stayed there while I ran up to grab him. So, a fence and extra attention are necessary.
Other than that, Bud is perfect. He is a very laid back for being so young. Oh, and pretty! But I think he knows that. He is really good at sharing food and attention. He goes into a crate but isn't happy about it. I gave him free roam of the house today with the resident dog and there were no accidents. He is a really smart guy who, with a lot of love and attention, could really develop. He was a stray and was adopted out of a shelter, was with that family for nine months and then surrendered to us. He really needs a home that will love and nurture him.
