As promised, here is a family photo with Buddy. We had a great night with Buddy - he got to meet my parents and did so well! He's such a good boy and we are loving our new family member.
I've always believed it takes a very special family to give their hearts to a senior dog, and Buddy is so lucky to have found just that family! Yes, our sweet boy has gone to his furever home with Adam & Molly F.
His new Mom & Dad are so excited to be adopting their first RAGOM "pup"! Buddy will be an only child, happily soaking up all the love and attention that comes his way. He'll have the daily walks that he loves so much, his very own yard to lounge in, and maybe even get to dip his toes in a lake.
You've hit the Golden jackpot, Buddy! Enjoy your paw-some happily ever after, and we hope to see you in September at Goldzilla
Happy Spring to the Golden Seniors from Anonymous
You've got a great voice, Buddy! From Beau 14-117
Hi everyone, Bud-man here! Bet you didn't recognize me sporting my new summer hat. Pretty cool duds, eh? A friend of FM's stayed with us a couple of weekends ago and we had a little impromptu photo shoot. Thank you, Jan K!! When you have a handsome subject and an amazing photographer, great things happen!
Not much excitement around the home front lately. I've been busily (yawn) supervising FM while she weeds the flower beds...something about the #$%^* maple trees next door that dropped a record amount of seeds this year. She no sooner gets them all pulled and there's a whole new crop in all her perennial gardens. I've been learning a lot of new words, but she won't let me tell you what they are. Luckily, I'm good at keeping secrets. Cross my paws!
Since the weather has been so warm I've been the lucky recipient of homemade Frosty Paws on a daily basis. Oooh, delish! Some days I even get two!! Check out my video
Other than that, I've just been hanging out...enjoying sunning myself in the back yard after breakfast, going for my morning walk, then a little nap time...you get the picture. It's the lazy, hazy days of summer around here and life is good! Have yourself a great week and I'll check in soon with another weigh-in update. Paws crossed that those last two pounds are finally gone for good and I get another trip to the DQ!
Buddy here, with the much awaited weigh-in good news/bad news. First the bad news... I'm down only 2 more pounds I hold FM responsible because she felt I had done so well on my diet the first month that she increased my food intake. Get this... she holds ME responsible because my big, sad brown eyes tugged at her heart strings, causing her to feed me more, against her better judgment! Sheesh! What can I say, I have a gift and know how to use it
The good news is...FM walked over to the DQ after dinner tonight and bought treats for everyone! Even me!! She said I'm still going in the right direction and besides, we had our first 90+° day today, so a celebration was in order. Watch my tail in the video... it says I pawsitively agree! I'm going to try super hard this month to lose those last 2 pounds so FM gets me more ice cream!

It's time for my pre-bedtime nap... I'll be dreaming of more hot summer days and ice cream And my very own forever family
P.S. I even shared my ice cream with my little FB
Happy June everyone, it's the Bud-man here! I know you've been wondering when you would hear again from your favorite Golden wannabe. Well. First and foremost, FM informed me that I, Buddy Leroy, have Spring Icons decorating my thumbnail picture on the RAGOM website. Talk about making a guy feel humble and honored. Thank you so much Anonymous and Beau 14-117, your donations will sure help with my vet bills. And Beau, thank you for the compliment! It's nice to know there are fellow dogs out there who appreciate a good set of pipes :) If anyone is wondering why I suddenly have a middle name, FM says I must have one in case I ever do something inappropriate. As in, "Buddy Leroy, stop that!" or "Buddy Leroy, don't make me come over there!". I'm proud to say that FM hasn't needed to use my middle name since I've been here :)
The weekend before last, we not only celebrated Memorial Day...FD took part in the Rifle Squad but wouldn't let me come see him, something about not knowing if I was afraid of gunshots and not wanting to find out in a cemetery...we also had a wedding in the family! That meant relatives staying with us! More hands to pet me! I must confess, I was pretty sweet on my Auntie Sue . She gives *the best* massages! I think she and Uncle Joe might have taken me home with them if they didn't already have 2 pups. What's that? Ah, no, he's not the Uncle Joe from Petticoat Junction (Even though he's sure old enough! Oops, did I say that out loud?? BOL!!).
I gotta tell ya, I am so lucky...I've been getting more brushings than normal lately. I absolutely love being brushed, it's one of my favorite things! FM said something about me blowing my coat and making the neighborhood birds very happy. I'm just glad I'm able to add a bit of plush to their nests to keep the bird pups warm and comfy :) My yard was spotless a couple of hours after FM made the mess below.
Stay tuned for another weigh-in update next week! FM needs to pick up my heart worm pill at the vet and I'm coming along to hop on the scale. Keep your paws crossed for me that I've lost those last 4 pounds. If I'm down to 100 lbs or less, I'm treating FM, FD and me to a yummy DQ treat. I have a good feeling about this! Speaking of good feelings, FM told me she thinks this may be my lucky month and I'll find someone who'll love me and want me to live with them forever and ever!! Wouldn't that be the coolest thing?? I mean, it's great here and I'm loved to pieces and not lacking for anything, but a guy really needs a place of his own. I know my furever family is out there...shoot your Placement adviser an email and tell them you need some good lovin' in your life...it's my specialty :)
Hey everyone, Buddy here. I'm sooo excited, so FM said I could send in an update tonight. The big weigh-in was today and guess what? This big o'l hunk of love has lost 10 (count 'em, TEN!!) pounds! I am now a svelte 104 lbs and still losing...only 4 more to go to reach my goal. I figure another two weeks tops before we hit the DQ to celebrate. One word...hashtagbringontheladies
Here's a photo of the new me, supervising FD making dinner tonight . FM says I'm taking up less room in the doorways now. That's a compliment, right??
Buddy has been here a month already and I'm amazed at how quickly and easily he's fit right in. It's almost like he came with a how-to guide...how to be the best boy ever, how not to tick off the cat, how to let everyone sleep in, etc.! It's what I love about the seniors...they're experienced and just know this stuff! Sure, he may be a little slow reacting to commands, but at 12 years of age, I have no problem with that. He can take as long as he'd like to set his cute bum on the floor
Buddy is absolutely no trouble whatsoever and is as laid back as a dog can get. We just had a thunderstorm roll through and Buddy decided it would be a good time for a nap. No storm anxiety with this boy! I was vacuuming earlier today and got within inches of Buddy's nose...he didn't even twitch a whisker. If you're thinking maybe his hearing isn't what it used to be, I think Buddy's ears are just fine. He hears me call him from wherever I am in the house and he can also see my hand signals, so I don't believe he'll be needing glasses any time soon either. Buddy always sleeps through the night (except his first night here...nerves, but that's to be expected) and is happy to watch me feed the "squeaky wheel" before he ventures into the kitchen for his breakfast. We haven't left Buddy for a full work day since we're retired, but he can easily be home alone with free roam for 4 hours. I'm sure he could go longer, but at his age I'd feel bad making him hold his bladder that long.
Our sweet boy continues to be a perfect gentleman around The Cat. Unfortunately, it's one-sided but Buddy takes it all in stride...even when he finds his bed already occupied on a daily basis.
Buddy has a couple of, what I consider, quirks. Not to worry, it's not a deal breaker :) He never sleeps in our bedroom at night, but prefers his bed in the living room or the love seat in the front room. It's not for lack of an invitation, he's more than welcome to sleep on the floor or dog bed in our room. I'm thinking since it's a small bedroom and he shops at the big and tall men's store, he may like a more open concept for his sleeping quarters. The other thing is that he has shown no interest in our very large toy basket. Never takes out a stuffie, chew toy, tennis ball....nothing! He does have an elk antler that he loves to chew on, but other than that it's like he doesn't realize the basket even exists. Kind of sad to think he may never have experienced the joy of dog toys in all his years.
One other thing - it may be my imagination, but it looks like Buddy now has a waistline! We'll be taking a ride to the vet soon to see what the scale has to say. Stay tuned for hopefully a good news update! If you're thinking, like we do, that Buddy is pretty darn near perfect and you really need to meet this wonderful guy, let your Placement advisor know. Buddy just loves meeting new people!!
Hey RAGOMland, Buddy here! I've been a busy guy since my last update. Last Saturday I took FM & FD to their first meet and greet and they did pretty well...not nervous and met all the dogs & humans appropriately. I, on the other paw, did Fantastic!! I loved all the attention and made sure to return all that love to each and every person, large or small! I met lots of fellow foster dogs and we all got along great. FM says I liked a couple of the cute girls a bit too much, if you catch my drift Hey, just because I'm 12 doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good looking lady!
One of the best parts of last Saturday was that an awesome RAGOM volunteer donated a huge, cushy bed (that her resident girl snubbed, go figure) to ME!! Thank you so much Esther M, it's very comfy and perfect for naps. Even cat naps FM says no dog bed is safe in this house.
I was pretty tuckered out after meeting my adoring public and was happy to spend Sunday perfecting the art of napping. Monday, however, was a different story. FM's energy level was in high gear and I was put to work supervising the cleaning of the basement. Ten grueling hours, I tell you! And I don't even go down there, so it wasn't MY mess she was cleaning up. I didn't complain though, it's not my style...and I may or may not have sneaked in a nap or two during the work day FM says this is a busy time of year at Buddy's Bed 'n Biscuit and to expect lots more supervisory jobs while I'm here. As long as I can catch a few zzz's, I don't mind working for my room and board. The accommodations are top notch and I get homemade baked sweet potato chips! No recalls in this household! FM even bought all the goodies she needs to make homemade Frosty Paws. I'm not sure what those are, but if they're half as good as the chips, I'm in!
The rest of my week was filled with more supervisory activities, inside and out. It's all good though - every day is an adventure around here and I love sitting back and watching...er, supervising. I'm happy to say, we do take breaks and I get plenty of walks around the neighborhood that are full of scents to sniff...I love reading all the pee-mail! Well, it's time for my mid-morning nap, so I'll turn this over to FM. I hope to catch y'all soon at another meet & greet!
FM here, with a couple of vet visit updates. I apologize for my memory lapse, as I forgot to mention in Buddy's first update that he's being treated for a slight infection in his left ear. We have drops that Buddy is almost done with and his ear is looking good. The fecal results came back negative (yay!) and we have only a couple more days left of pain meds for his partial ACL tear. That said, Buddy's spring tuneup is pretty much complete and he's ready to find his furever home!
Buddy just loves his daily walks! Our first walk was without a Gentle Leader, and I didn't make that mistake twice! He's a strong boy without even trying, so unless you enjoy shoulder pain, the GL is the way to go. I was amazed at how quickly Buddy got used to wearing it, and now our walks are enjoyable for both of us. Even a child could handle him on walks with the GL!
Although Buddy loves his naps, he's always ready to go outside with us when we're working in the yard. A shady spot and his bowl of water is all he needs to make sure we don't botch the job. Car rides are also a favorite...Buddy is in heaven when I open the rear windows a bit so he can stick his nose out for some fresh air. Much as he'd probably love to have his whole head outside, it's too dangerous, so he'll have to settle for nose only.
Buddy is an amazing, gentle soul and seems to live for nothing more than loving touches and softly spoken words If you're looking for a soul mate to share your life with, please contact your Placement adviser. This big guy is a treasure!
