Profile

Introducing Buddy from South Dakota! Buddy is a two-and-a-half-year-old, house-trained, dark blond, happy boy who loves to play. He was loved by one family for his entire life and needed to leave them due to allergies in the family. He is a smaller guy, just over 50 lbs. He's been pretty unsettled since he arrived yesterday, but is starting to lay down once in a while now. He has a fear of fireworks and we'll be assessing that closely in the next day or so. He loves kids. Yesterday when he was still nervous and scared the little neighbor girls came over for a visit. Buddy calmed right down, sat, and let them pet him. He went to the vet today, was tested for heartworm, given Frontline, and scheduled for neuter surgery on Thursday. He is being treated for an infection in his right ear. After surgery he'll be ready to find his forever family.

Buddy has a kennel that he likes to lay in. I don't think he slept too much last night (he had free roam without trouble), but I understand he likes to sleep in his kennel, and he will go in it when you ask him to. He knows "sit", but has no idea what stay or come mean, or at least he's not letting on that he does know. He was rolling on his back in the grass and somehow his tether became unhooked. He noticed right away (before I did) and took every advantage to head straight to the neighbor's house. He kept looking at me holding the leash, and dodging my attempts to hook him up. He didn't really want to be away from me, but also had no intention of being caught. I used a little psychology and let him watch me go in the house, making a big show of slamming the door behind me. He didn't want to be left out alone, so was shortly back inside.

I think Buddy would love to have a family with a fence, kids, and lots of ball throwers. He likes to be with his people, and has become attached to me in the short 24 hours he's been here. He is reported to get along with dogs, but has not been around cats. He is a great dog, and we love him already.

We are so sorry to share that Buddy, 07-412, went to the Rainbow Bridge on December 14, 2013.  Buddy became part of our family in April 2007.  He arrived very anxious, but with tons of energy!  He enjoyed the freedom of the back yard--being sure to keep the squirrels away from the bird feeders.  He ran with lightening speed, and enjoyed playing with our other golden.  Most of all, Buddy loved our constant attention and would sit for hours to enjoy our petting.

On December 14, Buddy enjoyed our attention while we had our morning coffee, and later in the day played with abandon.  Late that afternoon, he went into his kennel, and would not respond.  We rushed him to the emergency hospital, where he died a short time later, surrounded by our arms and love.

Thank you, RAGOM, for sharing Buddy with us.
