12/31/06: And....all the way from Western South Dakota, weighing in at a whopping 20 pounds, meet "BUSTER BROWN"!

Buster was one of 200+ dogs that were seized from a property in western SD. Luckily, our RAGOM angel in Rapid City called to see if we had a room at the Inn for him. Buster arrived at our house on 12/23 - just in time for Christmas! Buster is one scared little guy - especially of people, but makes great strides each and every day. He has a ways to go yet, however. He loves our dogs and wants to play, play, play. Buster has some scarring on his face and ears but, as much as he loves other dogs, I tend to believe the scars were not from fighting. I could be wrong. We have no idea how old Buster Brown is - I'm anxious to take him to the vet to get his opinion on age. Buster has pretty bad teeth - poor guy. Both of his canines are broken - I knew there had to be a reason that it took him FOREVER to eat - his mouth must hurt!!! Buster has a physical/shots appointment on Tuesday and a dental appointment on Wednesday. After that, he'll be fresh and fluffy and available to meet potential families. Buster's new family will have to have a lot of patience to help this boy become the companion he deserves to be. He's had a rough life so far.... He is the cutest little bugger though - I just want to hug the stuffins out of him - if he'd let me, which he doesn't, so I have to be patient! He does want to lay right by me though, so he's making progress.

Until next time.....

Updates

Hi, everyone! It's me, Buster Brown!

Guess what? Today is a big day for me because I became a permanent family member. That's right, I'm home!!! I think I might have mentioned in a previous update that I was sure that foster mom wouldn't know what do if I wasn't around to keep her on her toes. Thank goodness she finally figured it out!!!

So, here I am, Buster Brown L., spoiled puppy extraordinaire! Yep, that's me. I got two new belly bands today. Maybe you can see my new "sports" band in the attached picture. My other new belly band has cow print on it. Foster mom (oops, I mean MOM!) didn't buy me a polka dot belly band because she says polka dots are for "Poodles".

I want to send a great big tail wag to my South Dakota Angel, to RAGOM for taking me in, and to all of you who cared enough to follow my story, cheer me on, and e-mail to see how I was progressing. I'm still scared of many things, but mom says I'm light years from where I was. And, she tells me it's only going to get better and better. We're going to start our "Mommy and Me" class pretty soon (a lot of people call it obedience training, but I prefer Mommy and Me).

And, a great big tail way to my sponsor, Frank Theatre Group, as well! It is your generous donation that made it possible for me to get the medical care I needed and the healthy food I've learned to love. I can't thank you enough for your kindness. I'm living the life and it's all thanks to you wonderful, caring folks!!!

Oops, I'd better run. We just came in from our potty break and mom noticed that I'm mud from head to tail. I'm pretty sure she thinks it's the cutest thing ever though.....

Love, Buster Brown L.

Hi, everyone!  Remember me, Buster, the lil' cowpoke from Western SD?  It's been quite a while since I've checked in to let everyone know how I'm doing here in foster care. I've had quite the summer. I spent nearly a month at Doggie Camp (All Seasons CCC) with my fur peeps while my humans went on vacation. I had fun there. I roomed with 3 of my sibs and we all got along just fine. The Poodles roomed down the hall. When it was time to go outside, the Poodles would run down to our room and scratch on the door to tell us it was time to "go outside." We got to watch TV in our rooms - can you believe that?!?!?!  The ladies at camp said I improved daily with my socialization skills--as long as no one focused on me and just let me be one of the pack. You see, I'm not a typical Golden Retriever where it always has to be "my" party.  No sir, not me. I'd rather be the groomsman everytime, never the groom. If the focus becomes me, I don't like it and I want to go to a place where I can be alone. The center of attention is just not my thing.

I'm back at my foster peep's house now and things are good. I'm still not fully house-trained and foster mom has decided that she's just not going to be able to teach this old dog any new tricks. As a result, I wear my denim belly band when I'm in the house. It's pretty cool, though, cause foster mom went to the fabric store and got two appliques - one is an "A" and one is an "F". You know what I'm talkin about, don't you... Abercrombie and Fitch--a designer belly band!!!  I have to tell you, I'm lookin pretty fly. I know what you're thinking... why hasn't a little fly boy like me been adopted already?  I wonder that sometimes myself, but then foster tells me, "Patience Buster, good things happen to those who wait."  I really don't mind hanging out right where I am. In fact, to be honest, I don't know what foster mom would do without me around. She really thinks I'm the bees' knees.

Well, I'd better run around and gather everyone up. It's bedtime here at the ranch.

Until next time.  Love, Buster
