Welcome  8 year old Carrie to RAGOM.  You will feel the love, she's a sweet heart.  Came from a rural town in North Dakota and was surrendered because her 84 year old owner could no longer take care of her.  She didn't have anxiety over this, but I could tell that she was a little sad.  Good in the car, just lays down on the back seat. There was no tension between her and my 9 year old cat.  They look at each other, but don't seem interested.  She is house trained, doesn't use or need a crate, she hasn't gotten up on the furniture and she sleeps all night on her dog bed.  I've had her on a couple of walks and she likes that. She is easy on the leash, no pulling.

The kids in the neighborhood have met Carrie.  She's friendly, enjoys being a social girl.  No accidents in the house.  Although I let her outside often, there have been times when she has let me know she wants to go out. No counter surfing.   She's just an all around super great dog with a very sweet and calm disposition, she's happy, smiles and wags her tail a lot.  When I leave her alone in the house all she does is sleep on the floor.

Carrie was seen by the vet and brought up to date with her shots and she's micro-chipped.  She's in good health, hips are good.  She needs to loose about 20 lbs and I started her on the prescription diet food.  With some walks and eating better, she could loose 4 lbs per month:):)  You'll notice in the picture that her coat is short, that's because the surrendering owner had her shaved because of some matted fur.  Vet says she will grow back her full coat in about 8 months.  Cooperating, sometimes she wears a quilted jacket outside.

I think Carrie would adjust well in any environment with or without kids, dogs or cats.  Fenced yard or tie.  Today I shoveled snow and brought her out on the leash and tied that.  So easy!!  She just sat there and watched.

Carrie will make her RAGOM debut from 1:30-3:30 this Sunday at Chuck & Dons in Bloomington!!!!

You probably know me as Carrie but that's not my name. It took most of my life to FINALLY convince someone of my real name. So here I am at Rainbow Bridge waiting to be registered by my REAL name. It's a long line and a long wait. I asked the nice dog ahead of me (his name is Rex) why is it taking so long and he said it's because it's Monday and Mondays are when the 'big houses' clean house. He said many unwanted dogs come to Rainbow Bridge on Mondays. We started talking and I told Rex I died in a forever home. Rex said he died in a foster home but it's the same thing, no difference, we were both loved. We really 'woofed' it up sharing stories of the good times we had in our homes.

I turned and asked the funny looking dog behind me what her name was and she said USDA #289 (gee that's a funny name). Then I asked her what kind of home she died in and she snapped at me and told me to shut up...yipes! I asked Rex why she snapped at me and he said it's because she's 'one of those'...a dog that's never had a home. Rex explained big dogs in puppy mills never get a home like we did...so sad. Rex and I let USDA #289 get ahead of us.

Here it is, my turn to be registered under my OFFICAL and REAL name.

Her Royal Highness Princess Carrie Ann Fluffy Puppy Vanderbilt the Third of the House of Tudor.

AKA Princess to my friends and my forever mom.

My forever mom told me I'm going to be her valentine this year because I'm a cold dog. I have no idea what she's talking about. How can I be cold with all this fur (see my pic) and what is a valentine? Valentine...

smelentine. I have more important stuff to do than to be a valentine...namely sleeping and eating.

This valentine thing is negotiable though.

'Over the river and through the woods,
 to grandmother's house we go.
The dog knows the way to save the day,
through the white and drifted snow'*

Weellll not exactly....it was more like...

'Over the creek and into the woods,
 to jail I did go'

Yep that's right, I landed in jail...charged and convicted of 'taking off'.  I was sentenced to one week of jail time and probation (no free run walks) forever.  The judge (forever mom) said the sentence was severe because there was a human injury involved (evidently forever mom fell off a cliff and sprained her knee) and because of the duration of the crime spree (over an hour lost in the woods).  I told the judge I wasn't lost, I was hunting!  If I had caught that deer I would have saved the day and forever mom wouldn't have had to buy dog food for 6 months.  The judge showed no mercy.

It's embarrassing to have a rap sheet at my old age.

Other than my little stint in jail I'm doing wonderful in my forever home and I'm 'much loved'.

Sending my mug shot and a picture of the crime scene.

Dear Diary:

I'm so sad. I had a terrible day. My FrM (forever mom) took me to the vet for my weigh in---I've only lost 5 pounds since April. Then after we came back home a squirrel called me FAT. I am not FAT! When RAGOM found me I didn't have much fur and maybe I was fat then but I'm not now. You know how if you're a little chubby and you wear horizontal stripes it makes you look fat? Well that's what my new grown fur is doing to me. I take my weight loss program seriously (see pic of me in my workout outfit, complete with sweat band and leg warmers), so what the squirrel said was mean and hurtful.

And another thing...if I'm fat how would I have been able to run down and catch a striped gopher the other day?! FrM taught me the 'catch and release rule' that day. She said catching varmints is the same as catching fish.

Diary I will write again after I catch the squirrel....the heck with the 'catch and release rule'.

Carrie has found her forever home.  Her life has changed and this is a dream come true!!  The family who adopted her live on a farm.  Sure, there will be daily routines and schedules to keep, like a walk in the morning and then another walk later in the day.  Running and playing, fresh air, exercise and plenty of naps.  She can do all of this with her new companions, 2 brothers, one of them a former RAGOM dog.  When they saw Carrie their tails were wagging.  She has a devoted family who will love her and take care of her.  It won't be long before her full coat has grown back and she is down to a healthy weight.  Carrie, you are a dear girl.  We want to thank RAGOM for this wonderful experience.

We have an adoption pending and it will be official next weekend.  Carrie has found her forever home.  She will be living on a farm in Minnesota with 2 male Golden Retriever companions, Max and Petey.  Max was a RAGOM dog in 2004.  The dogs have met and I am very happy for Carrie and her new family.  She and I had a wonderful time together during her transition into RAGOM as my foster dog.  Carrie is very sweet and gentle, she is so easy.   She will easily bond with her new family and they are going to love her.  Carrie and I are very grateful to RAGOM and her new family for making all of this possible!!!
