My name is Chase and I’m 10 years old. My fosters have been saying how smart and good I’ve been. I go for daily walks and am extremely active for my age. I enjoy my walks and I’m real gentle with the leash. I never pull on the walks and I’m real comfortable walking around other dogs and people. I love to play with Skoey, the resident Golden Retriever. He’s got lots of games such as squeak and tennis balls and there’s nothing I’ve done more than retrieving the ball and dropping it at the thrower’s feet. They’ve learned it takes quite a bit to tire me out.

I’ve had run of the house since I’ve been here and haven’t gotten into anything I shouldn’t. I’ve been alone in the home for a few hours at a time and I’ve adjusted very well. I sleep during the day but I gladly will play anytime. I haven’t done anything wrong since I’ve been here and I’m not sure why they find that a big deal. I’m a real good listener and I hope they learn that I can do even more than they know.

Besides meeting various dogs on our daily walks, I’ve met the German Shepard/Rottie mix next door who is named Jack and we say hello every day. He is totally cool and a rescue dog. I’m not dominant….I tend to be submissive. I go with the flow and I’m low maintenance.

The fosters got Skoey and me groomed a few days ago and I handled that well. The blower bothered me but it was well worth it. My nails were really long and I’m happy my fosters cut them for me. Next on the list is going to the vet next week. I’ll tell you how that goes….

Our best friend Chase passed away on 6/25/14 at the wonderful age of 15. Chase will be missed by his family. Chase was a gift from God for our family. Thank you RAGOM for allowing us to be part of Chase’s last 5 years here on Earth.

I finally quit limping. We’re playing ball a bit more but not as much as I’d like. They say we still need to watch my foot so that’s what we’re doing. I did play and received a lot of attention last week. Saturday I spent some time at a place where there were other older dogs. I had fun and man! The time flew by. I got lots of pets from strangers and everyone was real nice. All of us dogs got along real well. They called us senior dogs but trust me…..we aren’t seniors judging by our activity. I’ve still got plenty of years left in me.

Everyone was busy a couple of days last week and I was alone over 8 hours only for a day. That was a first. They don’t like leaving us longer than a few hours….I’m not sure why. The neighbor across the street let me out (she was REAL cool and has two labs of her own) and we played ball. She let me stay outside in the yard by myself by kept an eye on me from her place. It was great to see everyone come home. They think I’m such a great greeter. The neighbors can’t believe that I’m still here. My fosters were thinking of keeping me but there are three things they’re going with for my new home: Kids; Cats; and dogs. They prefer the home where I have at least two of three of those and here only one of three exists. I’ve always lived with all three of those living things so they think I should continue doing that because I have so much love to give to everyone and they love me in return. I’m so kind and gentle and would never hurt a soul. I’m out strictly to please. Let me tell you something else. I pick up on things quick. They’ve broken habits of mine and taught me different things and I’m a fast learner. You can train an old dog new tricks. I’ve broken that myth here time and time again.

Oh, and you know what?!?!?!?!?!? I have been teaching Skoey, their resident golden, many things around here. He admires me and follows my every mannerism. Skoey could catch things but I’m the one who taught him to catch balls. Last week, he caught tennis balls for the first time. He also would bring and drop the tennis ball to one’s feet. That was something he never did until I got here. They couldn’t believe it……neither could I!

Am I handsome or what?!

Treat time!

Aah... love these events!

We went for a trip last week. The night before the trip, they went to a show and left us alone for eight hours. When they got back they were so worried about us I don’t know why! I’m FINE left alone for hours! Anyways, the trip…..we all had a cabin on a lake in Ely. It was quite the drive. Took us five hours to get up there! Skoey and I slept all the way there so it didn’t seem like such a long ride. They kept telling us what good boys we were. My foster parents had stopped to eat while we waited in the car. Everyone who saw us said we were such good boys too. I loved seeing the kids watching us.

We rented a pontoon while we were up there so I got to ride in it! John went fishing while Skoey and I watched. They let us go swimming and had a hard time getting me out of the water cuz I just love it so much! There were other dogs there too. When we all went for walks, the other dogs would bark but we were on our best behavior. We didn’t bark at all! I was kind of nervous the first couple of hours we were there so I stuck close to everyone. The cabin was smaller than the house so there wasn’t much to investigate but outside was a different story. We got a lot of exercise but also slept. While they went shopping, we dogs got to stay in the cabin by ourselves. Skoey took the sofa and I took the bed. When they came back I was the one who greeted them!

They took us for drives too. I love car rides! I was well adjusted after a couple of hours of being in the new place. I didn’t bark or cause problems at all! These people are real cool cuz they let me do what I want. When we came home, we took a more scenic route so it took us a bit longer. Skoey and I slept the whole way home. We only had to pee once the entire drive! They’d stop along the way home to see some things but we were too tired to get out of the car. It was nice to be back in a familiar place when I got back. I sat in the back yard for several hours enjoying outside.

I’m such low maintenance. I just need some cuddles every once in awhile and I’m good. If I’m bothering you all you need to say is "go on" and I’ll leave you alone. I rarely hear that though. They call me a gentleman. And the neighbors came over again and commented on what a sweet boy I am! They just don’t have a nice yard for me. They just have a huge pool in their yard! But they offered us several times to swim in it but my fosters won’t let us for some reason…….

I had a fantastic week this week.

But first, I’d like to talk a little about my history and where I came from. I’ve always lived with other dogs and cats and get along with all of them. I like kids the best. I grew up with kids and grandkids and I’ll let kids do whatever they want to me…..taking my toys away, laying on me as if I’m a bed, and I’ll even let you pull my ears and tail. I actually turn 10 in September. I’m a shy 72 lb boy who doesn’t get up on the furniture and I’m always by your side.

Now for the good stuff! I had a doctor’s exam the beginning of the week and it was scary at first. Everyone at the clinic just loved my personality and called me a gentle shy boy. I was updated on everything I needed. My foster mother and doctor agreed I was in need of dental care. I had that done the very next day. I’m so thankful to RAGOM for doing this for me. I broke a back molar at least a couple of years ago that was severely infected. I had been in pain all this time! It was affecting my health big time….the doctor said these things can be fatal but I was brought in just in time. They removed my infected tooth and cleaned the rest of my teeth. For the first time in years I’m not in pain. My teeth look like new and my breath is real clean. I’ve been so happy since I’ve had it done I’m excited to play all the time. Can you imagine? It’s like you as a person having a chronic toothache for 15-20 years of your life. I can focus on things other than pain now and I’m extremely grateful for this. After the dentist I had a chance to relax but the very next day I wanted to play but they insisted that I needed to take it easy on my mouth.

My foster family finally figured out that playing catch is my favorite game. There’s nothing better than catching a tennis ball. Sure, I love to fetch, but I LOVE to catch. I caught 18 balls in a row! I constantly carry my tennis ball around just in case they want to play with me. They do play catch every day with me. It’s just that an hour a day is nothing for me! And that includes the daily walks they take me on. I go on those daily. Let me remind you here I’m a terrific walker. I mind my manners at all times and I enjoy meeting strangers. I’m happy that they’re constantly learning more about what I know because I’m an eager learner and it’s never too late to train me on other things you’d like me to know. They do that here and I’ll tell you that another time.

Gotta run! I’ll talk to you next week.
