03/13/2017:

Copper is a handsome, red Golden Retriever. He was born June 18, 2016.  He arrived from the commercial breeder auction in Missouri on March 4, 2017. He is adjusting to his new lifestyle pretty well. He follows the lead of my resident dog and has learned that doorways are not scary, as they let you go out to play and back in to snuggle. Copper walks well on a leash with some zigzags which can result in getting tangled up some. He is crate trained and especially likes it when a treat is tossed in first. He is crated at night and when we are not home. He is having fewer accidents. Foster Mom just needs to watch him better for his signals. He is eager to please, so I think with a consistent schedule, he will learn quickly to potty outside.

He saw the vet this week. He weighs 65 pounds. He is heartworm-negative. He did have  intestinal parasites (very common with puppies and breeder dogs), has finished one dose of dewormer, and will need another in 3 weeks. I mixed the powdered medicine with his food, and he ate it up. Other than that, he is a healthy puppy. He will be neutered this coming week, so he will need some healing time before he's ready for adoption.

Copper loves Nylabones, Kong toys, and tennis balls. While he isn't fetching yet, he enjoys running after a thrown ball. He should have a secure place to play and a confident dog to play with and to learn from. He will benefit greatly from puppy classes. He is a big puppy and gets very excited and jumps up when he is let out of his crate. This is why I set the age for children at 5+ because he could knock over smaller children by accident. He is gentle just an excited puppy in a almost grown body.

As I learn more about Copper, I'll update his bio. If he looks like he might fit in your home, please send in an application.

Happy Easter from Copper!

Copper enjoyed exploring the many aisles of scents at the pet supply store. He completely ignored two very ferocious Doxies blocking one aisles. He received lots of pets from shoppers and employees and gave out some kisses. He wasn't afraid of the giant bunny and posed for a nice photo. Because he was such a good boy, he got a dog cookie as a treat.

Here are some nice pictures of Copper Nugget taken by volunteer Cindy G. at the meet-and-greet last weekend.

Copper had lots of fun meeting all the people who stopped by the Edina Chuck and Don's store during the meet-and-greet. He gave many kisses, and he received lots and lots of petting and cuddles. Copper behaved very well. He was calm and happy with all the attention.

This afternoon, he spent some time in the back yard enjoying the beautiful weather. He practiced retrieving tennis balls.

He's all tuckered out now and snoozing.

Copper had his 2nd vet appointment on March 28th and he weighed 62 pounds. He had a booster for distemper/parvo vaccination. His fecal was negative. NO parasites. Yay!

He has been loving the warmer, sunny days. He finds a nice stick to chew or chases our dog around and around. Now when we play with the tennis balls in the yard, he's retrieving and drops it near me so I can throw it again.

Copper is still looking for his furever home. He's planning on attending the meet-and-greet at the Edina Chuck and Don's on April 1st. We hope to see you there.

"Wishing for a FURever family of my own!"

Saturday, March 18, 2017

Copper definitely has the Golden nudge. He loves being snuggled. He goes into almost a trance whenever his nose is petted.

Earlier this week, he was neutered and microchipped. He's healing well. He wore a Comfy Cone for a few days and also some boxers. He's no longer wearing the cone, but was so cute that I had to share these pictures.

Copper loves to play in the snow. Of course, I didn't have the camera handy to capture how silly he looked as he rolled around and galloped in the yard, chasing the resident dogs (RD).

Copper is having fun playing with the RD. He shares the toys no problem. He is learning to sit for a treat. He has only had a couple of potty accidents, and one was while he was still loopy after his neuter, so it doesn't count. :-)

He is a very playful and happy 9-month-old puppy. He is hoping to find his forever family. Is it you? If so, please inquire about Copper.
