03/13/2017:
Copper is a handsome, red Golden Retriever. He was born June 18, 2016. He arrived from the commercial breeder auction in Missouri on March 4, 2017. He is adjusting to his new lifestyle pretty well. He follows the lead of my resident dog and has learned that doorways are not scary, as they let you go out to play and back in to snuggle. Copper walks well on a leash with some zigzags which can result in getting tangled up some. He is crate trained and especially likes it when a treat is tossed in first. He is crated at night and when we are not home. He is having fewer accidents. Foster Mom just needs to watch him better for his signals. He is eager to please, so I think with a consistent schedule, he will learn quickly to potty outside.
He saw the vet this week. He weighs 65 pounds. He is heartworm-negative. He did have intestinal parasites (very common with puppies and breeder dogs), has finished one dose of dewormer, and will need another in 3 weeks. I mixed the powdered medicine with his food, and he ate it up. Other than that, he is a healthy puppy. He will be neutered this coming week, so he will need some healing time before he's ready for adoption.
Copper loves Nylabones, Kong toys, and tennis balls. While he isn't fetching yet, he enjoys running after a thrown ball. He should have a secure place to play and a confident dog to play with and to learn from. He will benefit greatly from puppy classes. He is a big puppy and gets very excited and jumps up when he is let out of his crate. This is why I set the age for children at 5+ because he could knock over smaller children by accident. He is gentle just an excited puppy in a almost grown body.
As I learn more about Copper, I'll update his bio. If he looks like he might fit in your home, please send in an application.
