Who is looking for a new best friend?  Elijah is a 4.5 month old purebred Golden Retriever and is as sweet as they come!  Elijah loves to have his belly rubbed, likes to lean on your knees for some good ear scratchin’, and adores the two resident Goldens in our home.  He comes when called, walks pretty pleasantly with a flat collar and leash, loves to play retrieve (yes he actually brings things back!), and sits very nicely for treats.

Elijah is still a puppy so still has some puppy characteristics.  He likes to jump for attention but is quickly learning that the best way to get attention from us is to put his cute wiggly butt on the floor.  He still has sharp puppy teeth but he is pretty good about not using them on us.  Elijah has had a few accidents in the house but he is a smart boy and wants to please so we are sure it won’t take him long to figure out that dogs potty outside.

Elijah had never been crated but until we are sure he is trustworthy he is crated at night and when we are at work.  He fussed for about 30 seconds the first night and now does not mind his crate at all.  He loves his Puppy Kong filled with treats and Nylabones which keep him busy when we are away.

Elijah had his first trip to the vet and weighed in at 30#.  Other than an itchy puppy skin infection on his tummy that should clear up with a short course of antibiotics, he was given a clean bill of health.  The staff at the vet clinic loved him and think someone is going to be very lucky to adopt this boy!  They thought he was very mellow for a puppy and based on his big feet he has the potential to grow into a big dog.  He is scheduled to have his neuter surgery on Tuesday 1/22.

Updates

Thursday, September 5, 2013

Our sweet pup turned a year old this weekend, and I thought it was time for another update.  Echo is amazing. Most of the time he is calm but gets excited when meeting new people and other dogs.  His best friend is his two year old  two legged sister. She has decided that every day it's her job to give him food and water.

It took a while, but he has been house broken for a few months now.  He has completed level one obedience and knows the following commands: sit, leave it, eyes, wait, kennel up, off, and down.  When he is a little older we plan on training for his CGC.  He is amazing with kids, never tries to jump on them, so we think he would be a good therapy dog with children.

I can't picture life without him. :)

Happy Birthday Echo !  We love you!

It is now March 11th and everyday I am more amazed with this little puppy. I shouldn't say little, because he is actually now a big boy! Echo is now six months old and is growing and growing, and has the most handsome reddish/blonde coat. He is the most amazing puppy and everyday we love him more and more.

Echo is about 50lbs now and it looks like finally getting rid of his tummy rash. He is amazing with our toddler and they have become best buddies. However, he is a momma's boy and everynight has to have pets and cuddles from me. He hardly barks, loves his food, and loves to play outside.

Again, the perfect puppy.

I have been part of this organization for years and am so thankful for what RAGOM does for these dogs.

Hi everyone!! It's me Echo, formally Elijah 13-021. I wanted to write and say happy Valentines to my amazing FM and my FS Josie!!!!!

I miss you guys but am having an amazing time in my new home. I love my 2 legged sister so much! We play like crazy! Every morning I greet her in her room, or else she won't get out of bed! Every night she has to say good night to me so I fall asleep!

The day I was adopted we found out I had mild ringworm, so I get to start obedience training in March. I take my meds like a good boy every day and I love my special baths! Mom has learned that I love snow!!! I love to role around in it and dig my head into it!

Well that's it for now! I'll write again soon!

Love,
Echo

Sometimes the world works in mysterious ways.  Four years ago we decided we wanted to adopt a Golden Retriever through RAGOM.  Our home visit was done by a college girl named Emily.  After our home visit, Josie (Lacey 09-048) became a loved member of our family.  This year we were a foster family to Elijah.  One of the many interested applicants in Elijah was named Emily.  As we read through Emily’s application it became clear that this was the same Emily that had done our home visit four years ago!  Emily now has a home and family of her own and is looking forward to adding a Golden puppy to her life.  As foster dad put it, “there’s a whole lotta karma going on!”.  Elijah, now known as Echo, joined his family this week.   Congratulations Echo and your new family!

Here are a few pictures of Elijah enjoying time in his foster home.  For a puppy he’s a pretty easy guy to have around.  He only chews on his toys.  He respects elder resident dog Bailey.  Bailey is 12 and doesn’t care much for young pups!  Elijah and resident Josie play hard and have really become attached to each other.  His housetraining is still a work in progress.  We haven’t had any accidents the last few days but we’re diligent about taking him out every 30-45 minutes if he’s awake.  Elijah has a family coming to meet him this afternoon and we’ll be surprised if they don’t fall in love with this sweet boy.
