Finnegan (Quincy 03-141)

Profile

5/24/2003: Quincy came into our home (and hearts) on Saturday, and we fell in love with this little guy immediately. You see, Quincy is a large bodied dog with little legs. He is a Golden/Corgi mix and there might even be something else in him too. We don't have much information on Quincy, he came from a shelter in northern Minnesota. The shelter told us that his owner was a woman who call recently and told them that she had some dogs that the shelter needed to get or else she would have to shoot them because she had to sell her home and move into an apartment.

Quincy came to our house filthy, full of ticks and terribly matted hair that can't be brushed out. I have pulled off over thirty ticks so far, hopefully I have most of them. He has so many scabs, that I'm constantly checking him because you don't know if it's another tick or just a scab from an previous tick. It's going to take some work but when he gets cleaned up he's going to be a beauty. He has a sweet disposition and he is such a happy guy, his tail is always wagging. When he gets excited he makes the cutest, funniest whining and/or grunting noise, just like he's talking to you in some mysterious dog talk.

Quincy has to make several visits to the Vet: one for a checkup and heartworm test and then another for a neuter, then he'll be ready for his forever home.

Hi RAGOM--

This is Finnegan, FKA, "Quincy"--you found me a forever home with Ann and David Braden of Edina, back in the spring of 2003. It's been a while since I've been in touch so I thought you might enjoy an update.

I was found in a shelter in Tower, MN and fostered by a nice RAGOM volunteer up on the Iron Range. At the time, somebody decided I was a Golden Retriever-Corgi mix (more about that later) and that I was probably between 1 and 2 years old. When they adopted me, the  Bradens changed my name to Finnegan and decided that as long as I now had an Irish name, my birthday might as well be St. Patrick's Day, so I'm going to be 14 (or 15) in a couple of weeks.

Here I am--almost 98 or 105 (in dog years) and still just the handsomest, sweetest, most adorable doofus dog on the planet--or so I am told, by my mom, every day.

I am totally deaf and I don't see very well,  but my sniffer still works 110%! Except for a very early bout with heart worm and the two "chocolate incidents" of Aught-Five--I've been very healthy my whole life. I take Rimadyl every day and need a little help going up and down stairs like many seniors do. No one can believe how old I am--Just the other day a woman in the park said I was the most beautiful dog she'd ever seen! My personal stylist of ten years, Mariana--who works in the grooming department at Petco in Richfield-- says that I'm her cutest and favorite client! (Dad says she probably says that about all the dogs she grooms.)

Since joining the Bradens, there have been many changes in the household--their son and daughter graduated from college and then grad school, got married, moved to Seattle and Philadelphia, and had kids of their own. A couple years ago Mom and Dad retired and moved to a one level townhouse next to Centennial Lakes Park in Edina so I walk in the park almost every day. In the summer I go to the cabin in Northwestern Wisconsin and wander around in the woods a little. Most of the time I just lounge around the house. Oh! I learned to tell time! At exactly 4:30 every day I bark for my dinner--even senior dogs like the "early bird special" .  And did I mention I live with three cats? Fletcher, Fergus, and Matilda. Fletcher and I like to "do spoons" at night.

Finally--about that Golden Retriever-Corgi mix business.  Mom and Dad had my DNA tested about seven years ago and it turns out I'm NOT a Golden Retriever OR a Corgi. I'm a Shetland Sheepdog-Alaskan Malamute--with stubby legs!

I hope all the good folks at RAGOM are doing well and that you never run out of Forever Homes--even for stubby-legged Sheltie/Malamutes like me!

Love,
Finnegan Braden
