Hello, all! I'd like to take this moment to introduce you to one of RAGOM's newest members, Flynn! Flynn is a 1 1/2 year old, 78-pound, purebred, and neutered male Golden Retriever. Flynn was lovingly surrendered to RAGOM by his owner who moved in with her parents; she wanted to do what was best for Flynn, so she entrusted RAGOM to find him the best possible home! Flynn had a vet checkup, was brought up-to-date on his shots, given heart worm and flea and tick preventative, and was given a clean bill of health!

Flynn arrived at our house in Iowa on Monday , and he's fitting in like a glove alongside our 1 1/2 year old female Golden Retriever, Sadie.  Sadie and Flynn are only 11 days apart in age, so there is boundless energy in our house. They enjoy running and chasing each other, tugging toys, and wrestling.  We have a fenced-in backyard, and he loves to run around in that, so a fenced-in yard is preferred in his forever home, but it's not required; if you don't have a fence, but you could provide Flynn with socialization and exercise (doggie daycare, walks, obedience, etc) he would be just fine in your home.  Another dog in the home is optional as well.  Flynn needs the typical amount of exercise that a 1 1/2 year old dog does, but he's not bouncing off the walls with energy either.  Currently, we are thinking children 10 and up, as Flynn still does jump up sometimes during his greetings, and that may be too much for a younger child to handle due to his size.  Flynn is also cat friendly, as he doesn't pay much attention to them and allows them to come and go in peace :-).

One thing about Flynn that his forever family needs to be aware of is that he does occasionally guard high-value toys or items (i.e. bones or Kong toys).  We have not witnessed Flynn being aggressive at all; he merely lets out a low growl and walks away, no lip-curling and no aggression. He's just letting you know that he'd prefer if you would stay out of his bubble when he has his special toy or bone.  We are working through this by trading Flynn his high-value toy for a high-value treat (i.e. steak, chicken, warm hot dogs, etc).  This is working wonderfully for him, and he's already becoming much more willing to give up his prized possessions :-).  He simply needs a family who is willing to help him realize his things are safe and that they will always be there when he wants them.  He's a very quick learner, and he's already doing SO well!

Flynn is a beautiful and fantastic dog with so much potential. If you'd like to meet him or know a bit more about him, please contact your placement advisor!

Flynn here. I have some fun news to share! Foster Mom said there is a family coming to meet me in a couple of weeks! They live in a town that is very far away, so FM is very happy they want to make the long drive to see me :-).  I'm doing so well in my foster home. I am still a little picky about who I want sitting next to me when I am chewing on a bone or something, but FM and FD trade me really yummy treats (like pieces of chicken or hot dogs), and I'm more than willing to give up my bone for something so yummy!  I love my foster sister. She and I are best friends; we play all the time and have so much fun together.  She and I will sure miss each other! FM and FD have a super busy schedule coming up, so I might spend some time in a new foster home for a little bit, but we'll see how their schedules shake out in the coming weeks :-).

I've included a picture of me with my foster sister. We sure are best pals! Keep your fingers and paws crossed for me when I meet my new family!
