Christmas was bright and merry for sweet little Ginger in her forever home with Dane and Amanda! Ginger is 3 weeks post-knee surgery and is doing great. She warmed up quickly to Amanda and Dane, and even their resident cats! She will get double the love, new feline siblings, and a warm happy home! She is a sweetheart, and I couldn’t be happier that she has made the journey to her new home to live the Golden Life!

Ginger had ACL repair surgery almost a month ago and has been doing great! Her incision has healed up well, and she is friskier than ever! She has good mobility and strength so far, and we have been taking longer and longer walks with no issue. She LOVES her walks, getting very excited and happy when the leash comes out. She had an ear infection which cleared up in a couple of weeks after some Otomax ointment. She is eating well and loves her treats.
It appears she is feeling good on the fixed right knee, as she is more and more mobile and excited for her walks. Her personality has been really coming out, and she has blossomed into a super sweet, affectionate girl who loves her cuddles and ear massages. She has a super cute expression when she is happy, closing her eyes as if to say, “Ahhhh, that’s nice.” Also in that content state, she practices her own doggie yoga, doing some ujjayi breathing (for you yogis out there), but basically gives a little purr of sorts. She is a wonderful girl that will be a terrific companion for someone that is looking for a relaxed, lower-activity, soft and cuddly pup.
She does well with new introductions, albeit by taking them slow, but once she meets you, she can’t wait to see you again. She was terrific meeting my 8-year-old little sister and my 82-year-old mother, being gentle and polite.
She is working on her “sit” and is incorporating that in to her walks, as she needs her space to refocus when encountering new dogs. With a bit more practice, I anticipate fewer and fewer reactions, just as she has progressed with “leave it” when squirrels catch her attention. She has been sleeping downstairs on the couch as we are limiting stairs while she recuperates, but prior to surgery, she has slept in the same room on her blanket and pillow.
She will have her other back knee ACL repair surgery in 2-3 weeks and should be ready to go to her forever home and make someone very happy!

Ginger has settled in wonderfully and is a sweet little girl.
She is currently unavailable because she had her back knee ACL surgery on Monday and is recuperating well, but taking it slow. She will have her other back knee done in 4-6 weeks. She has started to stretch and is already using that knee, so I think she is off to a great start.
Mike and Judy Z watched her a few days prior to her surgery, and reports were she was a perfect guest and got along well with their grandchildren and even their cat!
As recommended for most dogs, Ginger would like slow introductions to new dogs, as she may curl her lip or give a low growl if they came face to face too quickly. Once she is given her space, she is able to take a walk with another dog with no problem.
Ginger is a very affectionate pup who loves to have her ears and belly rubbed, and will reward you with kisses. She likes to sit on the couch with you and lay her head on your lap. She is a lower-activity dog and, with her knee issues, probably not a running mate, but an adorable companion for everything else!
Once she has her second knee surgery, she will be ready to go to her new home if all goes well. If you are interested in meeting Ginger, please follow our Adoption process, starting with filling out an Inquiry for Application.
Stay tuned for more updates as I get to know her and on her recovery.

Ginger is a sweet, petite (50 lbs), spayed, 2- to 3-year-old Golden Retriever. She is slightly timid with new people, but in a matter of minutes, she will be asking for pats and rubs, and her tail starts wagging with happiness. Once she warms up, you are in.
Ginger came from the reservation where the owners did not have a fence nor a tie-out, so she was a free spirit, playing with the other dogs and children in the area. Since we got her, Ginger has been to the vet and the groomer and did well at both. She's a healthy girl, is up to date on shots, is on heartworm preventative and Frontline, and will be microchipped on the next vet visit. She does have some inflammation on her back knees, which the vet thinks could be a partially torn or torn ACL, but noted with a good diet and because she is young and strong, she will compensate for her stiffness. It doesn't affect her walking or playing, although with a big day at the dog park, she might be sore the next day. She can gain a few pounds.
Ginger likes her ears and tummy rubbed more than treats, and is an affectionate little girl. She is good at home (no other pets, so I dont know how she’ll do with other animals in house), has free roam without any issues, and sleeps on her blanket and pillow. I have not needed to crate her, and haven’t tried.
She enjoys getting close to you on the couch, but will eventually retire next to you on the floor. A very good girl. She does not guard her food and rarely barks, but gets excited by squirrels. She comes when called, but could likely use a bit of training to learn the "sit" and "stay" commands. She is good in the car and is good on the leash, and could use a little more work on “leave it” when squirrels come her way.
She has a sweet disposition, is independent but affectionate, and has what I would consider a low-maintenance, very sweet personality. Her coat is very soft, and she has a beautiful smiley face. She’s a very sweet girl that will be a wonderful addition to a loving family.
