Snuggly. Soft. Playful. Intelligent. Sweet. Words that come to mind when I try to describe Griffin, a 9 week old Goldendoodle puppy. Griffin and his sister, Gabby 16-005 came to rescue from a breeder. He looks a great deal like a Golden Retriever in his coloring but has some lighter areas, the start of a Doodle beard and a cute docked tail. He has a lovely personality. He’s quiet and watchful in new situations, like his visit to the vet. At home, he’s very playful by himself with toys. With my big dogs, he’s chasing or playing tug of war. He loves the snow. He runs through drifts, digs little holes, climbs to the top of snow piles and pushes snow around, playfully chasing snow balls. He is very much Golden but has some Doodle moves as he plays.

Griff is a quick learner and is working hard on his housebreaking. He is making progress even with some very awful weather outside. He has slept in bed with me with no accidents. We get up once during the night for my other dog to chase rabbits and Griffin to take a potty break.

Griffin visited the vet for a checkup and update on his puppy shots. He weighed 11.8 pounds and was reported to be in good health. Griffin will be neutered before he is adopted.

Anyone interested in adopting Griffin should contact their placement advisor.   Potential adopters should be familiar with the needs of a young puppy and the amount of time, patience and commitment raising a puppy requires.   As a pup, he will need someone home to continue his housetraining or with a flexible schedule to be home to let him out after a few hours. He is smart and not a very mouthy pup. He has the Golden desire to please and will be a lovely companion dog.

Griffin has been growing like a weed. He seems to rule the house with both resident dogs eager to play with him, give up toys, etc. He certainly has quickly found a place here in the pack. Maggie does a wonderful job of playing with him since they are more closely matched in size. Bella and Griffin play tug of war. When the big dogs have had enough, Griffin is content to play with toys or chew on a bone and entertain himself.

Griffin acts like Goldilocks moving from dog bed to dog bed trying to find the one that fits him just right. He is a real snuggler at night and finds his spot on the bed and settles in.

His surgery last week went very well and he was right back playing and acting like nothing happened. He was also given his next set of puppy shots.

Griffin is very smart. He’s learned to go up and down the steps. With a snow ramp, he could jump off the deck and run down the snow. With warmer weather, the snow disappeared and it was quite a jump to continue leaving the deck that way. The stairs were the way to go and he quickly managed to follow the other dogs down the steps. He’s learned to go to the door when he needs to go out. Usually, Maggie is racing along with him but he has gone on his own a few times. Housetraining failures have become fewer and fewer.  Maggie and Bella have also been trying to teach him how to walk with them on a leash. Walks started out as zigzagging from side to side. That is good for putting in extra steps and wearing out a pup but he soon got the hang of walking side by side with one of the big dogs.

Today a family came to meet Griffin and adopt him. They both work at home so he will have someone to hang out with like he’s had at his foster home. He will also have a seventeen year old boy to play with and another college age child when she’s home from school. The family are looking forward to a puppy and eager to train him, love him and take good care of him. And they will continue to call him Griffin.

Growing bigger. Weighing 15+ pounds now. Growing smarter. Working on his potty training and walking on a leash. Spending a little time in his crate and not whining when left alone (sometimes). Walking down steps. Up steps is no problem. Growing cuter and fluffier each day. Griffin, the 11 week old male Goldendoodle is looking less Golden and more Doodle as his coat grows.

Griffin is getting neutered this week. His surgery might slow him down for a little while but not for long. He is a very energetic and playful dog. He spends hours wrestling with Maggie, who’s slightly bigger and Bella, who is a large Golden.

In two short weeks, Griffin has gone from a scared little puppy to happily exporing his yard and house. This includes discovering all the toys and dragging them out on the living room floor, running up and down the hall and hiding under the bed. Griffin likes to lie along side something. When he stretches out, he’s quite long. At first, he ran to his crate for safety. Now he feels safe anywhere and often lays outside his crate curled up on a rug.

Griffin is a very smart, exuberant puppy. He is very sweet and funny. He will require lots of exercise and playtime. He wears out the big dogs with his playfulness. They enjoy him a great deal most of the time. Maggie is his favorite playmate.

His foster mom is working with a family now who are interested in adopting him.
