On Friday, February 24th, RAGOM welcomed Gunner 17-031 to the RAGOM family. Gunner is a happy-go-lucky, 12-week-old Goldendoodle with a small overbite. This should not prevent him from leading a happy Golden Life. It is very minimal, and on his visit to the vet, the vet was not concerned about it. He eats and drinks with no problem.

Gunner arrived at his foster mom’s (FM) home on Saturday the 25th and has been a great boy.

Guys, it's me, Gunner. I am taking over the computer to tell you all about me. Impressive since I am still a pup, huh? When I got to FM's house, oh boy, was it cool! There are 2 other big dogs for me to play with!! They might think I am tiny, but boy, am I mighty. When I play, my big, floppy paws are all over the place. FM kind of laughs at me; I guess it's cute. It must be adorable because she always holds me and plays with my floppy feet. One of my favorite things to do is cuddle, snuggle, and wiggle my way into your arms and hearts. I love sleeping on my FM’s bed; not sure how she feels about that, though. It is so soothing and calming for me. Ya know, what else I hear a lot. "Good boy, Gunner. Potty outside, good boy." That must be a big deal to potty outside because I get treats, and big pets when I do my business outside. The other day... zzzzzzz.

Sorry, guys. Seems he fell asleep on us. After all, he is a puppy. So far, this is what Gunner has done since being here at my home in Burnsville, MN:

  • Played with my resident dog and the other foster I have, Moe 17-009. He plays well and responds well to the level of play, but isn’t shy about telling the other two when he’s had enough.
  • He has been to the vet and was given his 1st set of shots. He will go back on the 20th of March for the 2nd set of boosters.
  • He has a small ear infection that is being treated with medicines and should clear up in 7 days.
  • He is not yet neutered, but has his appointment for the 14th of March. Therefore, he will be unavailble for adoption until after his recovery period.
  • He is learning to do his business outside, but as he is still a puppy, he needs guidance and assistance on learning to do that.
  • We are working with him on crate training. He is pretty vocal about the fact that he would rather not be crated at night for bedtime and has had a few nights of 1 hour of barking and whinning when in the crate, hence the reason he’s slept on the bed. We are working on solutions to curb this and hope to see success soon. During the day, he will give 3 to 5 barks, but then will settle down.

He is a puppy. Please ask yourself the following questions to make sure you are ready for a puppy in your home:

  • Do you have cat-like reflexes to catch him if he starts to potty inside and guide him outside?
  • Do you mind a bit of noise while working on crate training him?
  • Do you have the energy to deal with his puppy personality? Puppies will bite, chew, and pull on innapropriate items. Do you have the patience to work with him on this?
  • He knows how to walk on a leash right now, but as he gets older and starts to pull more, do you have the knowledge on how to properly train him?
  • Are you ready to wake up 3 to 4 times a night to let him potty outside? He is still a baby and can only hold it for a short amount of time. Rule of thumb is dogs can hold it for an hour of how old they are: 1 month = 1 hour, 2 months = 2 hours, and so on. However, if there is a lot of activity, he might have to go more frequently.

If you think you are up to the challenge of raising sweet Gunner, please fill out an inquiry form found under the adoption tab to find out more about applying for this guy.

Gunner enjoyed his time in his foster home with his foster siblings, but was very excited to meet his new family. He was welcomed into the home with big smiles and puppy hugs by his new family. They were very excted to be able to introduce him to his new Golden Doodle "cousins", once he settled into his new home and routine. He will not be lonely, as his new home has neighbors with dogs, and he can play when he wants with them. Gunner is off to live the Golden Life!!!!
