Please help give a warm RAGOM welcome to Isabel or, as I like to call her, Belle-Belle. We are longtime RAGOM volunteers that moved to Puerto Rico for a work assignment. While leaving work one day, my husband found a litter of 5 puppies left in the parking lot. The mom was nowhere to be found. Naturally, my husband brought them home and we began the rescue process. Isabel started as 14 pounds and has grown to 19 pounds as of September 23rd. She is completely up to date on all her shots, including rabies and bordetella as well as Frontline and Heartgard. When we first got the puppies, they all had pretty bad dry skin, but with some medicated shampoo, it cleared up amazingly. Now, they all have hair again!! All the puppies have been spayed/neutered. We were able to find homes for two of the five puppies here in Puerto Rico, but Isabel and her sisters (Lilly 14-300 and Juno 14-301) have hit the jackpot. They got to get on a big plane for a “field trip” to Minnesota where RAGOM will help get them to the forever home that they so deserve!!

Isabel is a really fun dog. I call her my spunky one. She is very agile and would make a great running partner. She loves to chase tennis balls or, should I say, “outchase” other dogs chasing tennis balls. She gets along great with dogs and kids. She has not been exposed to cats, but I think she’d be fine. She’d probably want to play, as that is what she does...play, play, play. When she’s in the house, she likes to play with her toys...any kind of toys, but squeaky ones are her favorites. She especially likes squeaky Kong tennis balls. Isabel is still learning how to walk on a leash and use the bathroom outside. She knows “sit” and will sit for just about anything. She is very treat-motivated. Have I mentioned the ice machine? She will be right under your feet in a sitting position waiting for that tasty morsel of frozen water!! Isabel is crate trained to sleep through the night for about 8 hours as well as she is kenneled while I’m gone during the day, although it is not her favorite. When she’s done playing, she is just a loveable dog that curls in with you on the couch while you relax. Isabel is a super fun dog to have around and would make a great addition to any family.

Once Isabel arrives in Minnesota, she will need to get a microchip, then she’s ready for adoption to her forever home. If you think that might be you, please contact your placement advisor and I’m sure Isabel’s new foster would love to set up a meeting!!

Isabel—I will miss your fun, “keep me on my toes” attitude. Be good and be sweet. Hugs and kisses to you...

Your Puerto Rican Foster Family

Isabel has been adopted by her foster family. She just found her way into our hearts. She has started obedience training and was the star of the class. She is helping us get ready for Christmas.

Isabel is the leader of this little pack of Puerto Rican Satos (street dogs) and she takes her job very seriously. She is smart, bold, and very interactive.

She came charging out of her crate when she arrived at her foster home on Wednesday night, demanding that she be fed. There was food that traveled with them on top of their crates - and she would jump up and attack the bag and then sit and then jump and then sit . . . somebody, please feed me/us!!! Once silly foster mom got with the program, Isabel led the way to explore the yard and greet the resident Golden, and then proceeded to jump up and then sit . . . because she discovered that the transport volunteer had treats.

Isabel went to the vet on Friday with the girls. And we discovered that she is NOT a fan of needles. Poor little drama queen squealed and squirmed and carried on when her microchip was inserted. She did not misbehave, but wanted us all to know that we had hurt her feelings, if not her physical self. She weighed in at 19.6 lbs.

She also attended her first Meet and Greet on Saturday. Isabel thinks she is supposed to protect her pack, so she was busy making noise and posturing to let the big dogs know that she was there and in charge. She is not aggressive, but can be vocal when she meets new dogs.

Isabel is keenly aware of her environment and has a great nose and great hearing. She never stops moving when she is out in the fenced yard - exploring and sniffing, or watching what is happening on the other side of the fence. She perks up her ears to birds, house noises, cars, etc. When she hears a new house sound, she usually looks at me to see if she is supposed to "do" something and I reassure her and she goes back to whatever she was doing. She also loves to watch out the front window.

She is very, very agile and physical. She jumps into the air to catch balls and uses the lawn furniture as part of the playground when she is running and chasing with the other dogs. She is very fast and is beautiful to watch while she is running. Isabel likes to climb onto the back of furniture or to the top of the stairs to have a good vantage point to watch the world go by.

Isabel loves to steal shoes and thinks that toilet paper rolls, rugs, and towels are incredibly fun toys. She would love to be chased when she takes inappropriate items. She seems to know the word "no" - but likes me to say it two or three times before she responds. Same thing with "down."

This smart puppy loves treats - and thinks that "sit" and cookie/treat are synonymous. If the dogs are outside, I can say "sit" and she will run into the house to get a treat. She is also the meal police and runs to the area where we keep the food when she gets hungry. She gets SO excited when it is time to eat . . . The other day, I was putting food in the dishes and she jumped up to tell me to hurry and toppled all of the dishes.

Isabel is both bold and emo at the same time. She will boldly charge danger (squirrel, kid on scooter), but then wants to sit on my lap and be held tight. She is having a tough time adjusting to being in her own crate - she needs to fuss a little bit before she gives in and settles down.

She is going to need obedience training and good mental stimulation from a family that values her cunning, but provides her with some clear guidelines and consistent reinforcement of house rules.

Isabel is very, very ready for her new home!!
