This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Welcome to RAGOM, Jake! Jake is a 5- to 6-year-old, 76-pound, neutered male. We aren't sure of his exact mix, but we believe it is Golden Retriever and Setter. He is a very handsome dog with the cutest white beard and mustache. Jake is very sweet and loves to cuddle! He is NOT OK with cats and cannot go to a home with them. We haven't had a chance to test him with kids yet.

Jake met our two resident dogs with no issues. He runs around and they chase each other when they are outside, but he hasn't been really interested in playing when they are inside. I think he would do fine with or without another dog.

Jake was found as a stray in Iowa. We have a fenced yard and have noticed that Jake really likes to explore the perimeter of our fence. Jake seems to have some prey drive, so for now, we are requiring a fence for him. He does have good recall and responds to his name. Jake knows how to sit and shake.

We haven't seen any negative behaviors. He hasn't counter-surfed or had any accidents since he has been here. He respects baby gates. We have allowed him free roam after a few nights with no problems. He hasn't barked more than a few times. We have noticed that when one of our resident dogs barks, he whines a little.

Jake is your typical Golden, Velcro love bug. He wants to be with people all the time and often seeks attention. He is more than willing to lay down at your feet and just be near you.

We added a picture of Jake playing in the snow with our residents, Carly and Bella.

Hello, everyone, Jake here wanting to give you a quick update. It was another interesting week here with my foster family. The weather started to get a little nicer, so we were able to spend a lot more time outside. We took several long walks. It is tough because there is all sorts of new things to explore, so I get excited and pull a little bit on the leash. Foster Mom says we need to work on that and we are going to try something called a "Gentle Leader" to help me learn to stop pulling so often. We have also spent more time hanging out in the backyard. I really enjoy sitting on the deck and watching all of the activity in the neighborhood. I have decided that I need to be the neighborhood greeter, so any time I see other dogs, I say hello. I don't bark inside the house, only outside.

This weekend, we got to go visit to a new house to have family dinner. I was so excited and expected to have something special for family dinner, but it turns out the humans were having dinner - at least I got some extra treats. I really liked the people I met, and after they had petted me for a while, I just chilled out. Foster Mom said I did well meeting new people and was glad that the powered wheelchair "Foster Grandma" used didn't bother me at all. She thinks I would make a good volunteer dog to visit nursing homes or hospitals. I don't really know what that means, but as long as I get some pets, I am in.

Here is what I would like for my forever home. I need a lot of exercise, so daily walks and fetch would be great activities for me. I got to play with some kids a few weeks ago and had a lot of fun, so having human siblings would be fun. I like to play with my foster sisters a lot, so I wouldn't mind a fur sibling or two, but I think being an only dog and getting all the attention would be just fine too. I LOVE to cuddle and would like a family who wants to cuddle with me. If you are looking for a cool dog who likes to play outside and chill and cuddle inside, I am your guy!

Foster Mom here, Jake continues to be a very sweet and well-mannered dog. He will be attending a Meet and Greet at Your Pet Shop in Sioux Falls on Saturday from 12pm - 2 pm.

Jake continues to do really well in our home. He is a great dog! He quickly earned full roam of our house and has had no issues. We kid tested Jake last weekend and he did great. He met kids ages 6-13 and he was very gentle with all of them. He really enjoyed playing fetch with them in the backyard.

Jake attended a meet-and-greet a few weeks ago. He loved all the attention and went right up to everyone in the store so they could pet him. Jake had no problems with the other dogs. He even tried to make friends with some birds in the store as you can see from the picture. Jake and our two residents dogs continue to enjoy playing and get along great. They love to play tug and run around outside.

Here are some things we have learned about Jake:

  • Jake rarely barks in the house; he has barked a little outside when he hears other dogs barking in the neighborhood.
  • He LOVES to snuggle up next to you on the couch. He thinks he is a lap dog.
  • He takes treats very gently; he will sit and shake before getting his treat.
  • He loves to play fetch with a ball.
  • He is really a laid-back, happy dog who just wants to be with his people.
  • He walks nicely on a leash.
  • He hasn't counter surfed at all.

Jake is one of the sweetest and most gentle dogs we have ever known. If you are interested in Jake please contact your placement coordinator.
