Hey Golden Lovers! Meet Jessie!! Jessie was surrendered to RAGOM due to her medical issues. Jessie is a six year old beautifully red Golden Retriever. She has an amazing personality! She is extremely mellow and is extremely affectionate. Her favorite thing it to lean against you and be petted under her chin. She loves every person she meets! She is a lover. The vet said "she has that typical Golden personality"

Jessie gets along well with cats and other dogs. She currently lives with two cats and she also had a cat in her previous home. Yesterday while at the vet Jessie was approached by two different dogs and greeted them each by smelling, never once did Jessie bark or get overly excited. Just a sniff to say hello, no big deal.

Jessie was taken into the vet for a check-up on Tuesday and the vet said she had an ear infection which we are currently treating. She also had a lick spot on her left back leg that is being treated.  Prior to coming into RAGOM we knew that Jessie was diabetic which means that her future forever home needs to be able to give her insulin shots twice a day at the same time each day. Jessie also has a thyroid condition which requires her to take a pill twice a day. And to top it all off Jessie has cataracts and can just barely make out shadows of things in good lighting. We are bringing Jessie to a specialist on April 24th to get her eyes checked out to see if there is anything we can do for Jessie. I will for sure update once that is done.

I know the medical issues can scare some of you away but I have to let you know that despite all of her problems Jessie is very mild mannered. Can you imagine how crabby you would be if you were blind, diabetic, had a thyroid condition, had an ear infection, and were itchy? You can't even tell she may not be feeling well. You really can't get a better temperament than Jessie. I am hoping that with a little TLC Jessie can be her very best self in RAGOM care.

Prior to being with RAGOM Jessie was free fed so she is now adjusting very well to scheduled feedings, which the vet said would help her lose the little bit of weight she needs to. Also we plan to walk her regularly which should also help.

Jessie is very quick to adapt to new situations. She has settled in very quickly already and it didn't take her long to learn the lay out of the house!

This is Jessie settling right in!

Over all Jessie is a great dog that would do great in any home. I have yet to see her around children but her previous owner said she was good with kids and it would really surprise me if she wasn't.

It is with a sad and broken heart that I let everyone know my beloved Jessie has crossed over to the rainbow bridge. She had become very sick in the past year and had lost approximately 30+lbs. We had taken her to a internist to figure out what was going wrong with our girl. Sadly we found out some news we were not hoping for. Jessie was more sick than we expected and the steroids that would help her would interfere too much with her diabetes and cause other worsening side effects. We had a few more great and loving weeks with her before we felt it was time.

Jessie had an amazing year with me and my family. RAGOM gave Jessie an amazing gift, her sight. Watching Jessie begin to discover her surroundings was a magical experience. Jessie never took a day for granted. She would wake up with the biggest smile every morning. When rescuing a dog you always consider the human as the rescuer, but in reality she saved me. There were quite a few challenges I was faced with last year and through everything Jessie was always there to lift my spirits. She was such a fun, spirited and loving girl who will be missed incredibly.

We never have enough time to love these amazing companions. I would never trade one day I had with my best friend, I love you Jessie. I can't wait for the day where I get to see you again at the rainbow bridge!

Thank you!

I am proud and so happy to say that Jessie is my "foster failure".  I have decided to adopt Jessie and keep her in my family.  I can't imagine not having her in my life and home.  She is going to be completely spoiled and enjoy her frequent trips to the cabin!  Jessie is just a perfect fit into my home and I am so thankful RAGOM was able to help me find such an amazing companion.

Hi Jessie Fans! Jessie’s surgery was a success.  Jessie has had to take a lot of meds and eye drops along with her insulin and she has been a trooper through it all. The next day after surgery, Jessie had a checkup.  The doctor said she already had 50% of her vision back and I am certain it has increased even more since.  She is walking around the house with no hesitation.  When we go outside she just sits there and stairs at her surroundings.  She has even stood at the screen door looking out into the backyard, tail wagging because she is so excited to see everything.  We have had to keep her calm and quiet this past week and she has about another week and a half before she be active again.  As much as she wishes she had more freedom to run around and check everything out, she is very much enjoying all the cuddle time.  I can’t wait to get this cone off of her so she can start playing and enjoy her new eye sight.

Jessie wants to thank RAGOM and everyone who helps this organization for giving her this wonderful gift!

Jessie is now being permanently fostered at our home.  Her temp foster was not exagerating one bit when she said Jessie is the ultimate love bug :) I have already fallen in love. I just wanted everyone to wish this cutie pie luck on her big cataract surgery this Wednesday!  She is so excited to get to be able to see, even though she does a great job of navigating with such limited eye sight now.

Next time you see and update from this sweetie she won't have marble blue eye's from the cataracts but big brown beauties!

Paws crossed for a success!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you a little update on our Jessie. I took Jessie to have her eyes looked at and the doctor said that he thinks Jessie would be a good candidate for cataract surgery so Jessie's surgery is scheduled for May 15th! I am currently giving her eye drops daily to hopefully improve the chance of having a successful surgery. With this being said I would like to thank Dr. O for offering his services at a discounted price for Miss Jessie but even at a discounted price the surgery is expensive so we would love to have some sponsors to help Jessie out! She is so very worth it!

Jessie went on a trip with me to visit my family this past weekend in Wisconsin and we had a blast. She met my two brothers, sister in-law, my dad, my 3 nephews (1, 3, and 5 years old) and my brother's dog Tucker (a male German Shorthair). While first meeting everyone she soaked up the love, making the rounds from person to person. In this new environment she followed me around a lot being that I am now a source of stability for her. She is definitely a velcro dog. At first she growled a bit at Tucker, I think just to let him know she wasn't comfortable with him being in her face. With her limited vision I think she likes to let other dogs know that she doesn't like surprises and once she knows they won't jump all over her then she is fine with them. She has never shown her teeth or nipped, just a low short growl. Meeting my nephews was an adjustment as well for her. Any of you with little kids know that they can be very loud. At first the noise startled Jessie a bit but after a little time around them she got used to it and I think she liked it a little because she could always tell where the kids were. The kids loved her and she loved the kids because they were constantly petting her. In fact when we ate meals at the table she would lay under the table under my nephews because they would pet her with their feet!

During this trip we also took Jessie for her first walk because we finally had great weather! Jessie is a good walker. I didn't need to use a gentle lead, she stuck right by me. It is pretty obvious that Jessie hadn't been walked much, she tires out pretty quickly. She is a pretty slow walker but it wouldn't surprise me if this was just because she can't see and is nervous about running into something.

Jessie out for a stroll.

Jessie's ear infection is pretty much cleared up but I am still working on getting her lick spot on her leg healed. She usually doesn't lick it when I am home but the minute I leave she will lick it. So it looks like the cone-of-shame will be put on her every time I leave until we can get it totally healed.

So far from what I know about Jessie is that she probably will not require a fence, she has great recall. In my fenced yard Jessie has never gone too far from me. She really just like to be as close to her human as possible. I really don't think this will change much even when she can see.

Jessie is really the perfect middle aged Golden. I know that the diabetes may scare some potential adopters off but I am currently 8.5 months pregnant and taking care of Jessie is a breeze. She is fully potty trained, doesn't bark (not even if she hears other dogs barking), she is a cuddle bug, gets along with dog & cats, really she is the ideal dog. If you would like to meet her we will be at the Meet and Greet in Blaine on Saturday! Or if you can't make it then please contact your placement adviser!
