October 18, 2013:
And just who is this dashingly handsome boy, you ask?! It's Rusty! He was originally brought into RAGOM's care in 2009, after he was found as a stray. He was adopted by an incredible family who loved him very, very much. Recently, Rusty displayed some nervous behavior around their young nephew, which resulted in a bite. Due to having a young child themselves, they made the difficult decision to surrender him back to RAGOM's care. It was a tearful surrender as they said goodbye to their sweet boy, as he was such a special part of their lives and they loved him very deeply. Rusty sends them both a big kiss and thanks them for all the love and wonderful care they've given him.
Since Rusty was a stray, we don't know his exact birth date. However, it is believed he is approximately 5 years old. He is up to date on vaccinations and weighs a healthy 63 pounds. He is on a grain free food and fish oil to help with his allergies. After his recent vet visit, Rusty tested positive for Anaplasmosis, which is a tick borne disease. The standard protocol is not to treat the dog unless he is displaying symptoms such as joint pain, lameness, lethargy, and lack of appetite. It's safe to say Rusty is feeling just fine - he has the energy of a one or two year old and loves to play, play, play! One of our resident dogs had Anaplasmosis this year, and it was easy to treat, if it should get to that point. Rusty has free roam during the day and has been on his best behavior. Our house is picked up pretty well, as we have a couple of resident counter surfers and thieves, so there isn't much for him to get into.
Rusty is a fun and energetic dog who will need a family that is committed to giving him lots of exercise. Walks are not enough for this young boy! He would love to go to doggy daycare or run and play at the dog park. He would also make a great running partner! He enjoys our nightly games of fetch and also loves to play with his ball after dinner while we're relaxing and watching TV. He will bring me his ball over and over and over again to play. He is just so cute! ;He loves to play with it right next to the furniture, and often nudges it underneath. He barks for help, and then a few minutes later, does it again. Perhaps his new home will have bumpers on their couch! He sleeps on the dog bed in our room at night, but would probably love to snuggle with his humans.

Rusty's needs are pretty simple:
- An adult only home, or a home with teenagers or older
- No cats!
- A fenced in yard, due to his history as a stray. He has always been used to one, too.
- A family committed to lots of exercise!
- A family that will take him to obedience training - a refresher never hurts!
- A family that will keep him on grain free food
- No requirements for another dog - he has been an only dog and has done just fine
Rusty is sure to add a lot of love and laughter to your house - please contact your placement adviser if you're interested in meeting this wonderful boy!
