Joy is an almost 11 month old golden retriever. She is very sweet and loves her people, she is good with kids and loves to play with other dogs. She does not chew on inappropriate items, if she gets a sock or mitten she will trade very nicely for a treat. Joy likes to go for walks and hangout outside.

Joy was surrendered to RAGOM because her owners were having a hard time caring for her. They love her very much and wanted a better life for her. That is what RAGOM is all about, finding the best home for our dogs.

Joy is very healthy. She is up to date on her shots, she is micro chipped and will be spayed soon. When she was a young puppy she received an injury to her spine, she has some paralysis in her hind end, and she does not have control of when she needs to urinate. Because of this she needs to wear a diaper at all times. She has a little control of her stool and is doing most of that outside. I do take her outside 4 or 5 times a day. I take her diaper off and walk her around the yard. I need to use a harness when I take her out to hold her back end up. Her back legs do not work. She has some feeling in her legs and she can move her hips and knees but she is unable to hold herself up. In the house she drags herself around. She can get around very well. She is very quick at moving. It took her a little time to get use to the tile floor but she did figure it out. It is much easier for her to move on carpet. She has a few sores on her tail from scooting around so I have bought her a drag bag, it goes around her back side and keeps her skin from rubbing on the floor it also helps if her diaper were to leak, and it will catch it so there is no mess on the floor. When we take Joy for a walk or to the vet she has a wheelchair that she can use. It is good for when we are out but inside she is just fine with scooting.

She has seen the vet and they feel it has been too long of a time from when she was injured and now to reverse the damage that was done to her spine. She has been like this since she was six weeks of age. It is all she knows and it is her normal. She is a happy girl!

Joy is a very loving dog and is looking for her forever home, if you would like to meet Joy contact your placement adviser.

Joy is doing great in her forever home! She has a fur sister and lots of foster dogs that come and stay for a while and then go to their forever homes!

She likes all dogs, but she really likes when puppies come and stay at our house.

Joy has been with us for about a year and a half, we have learned a lot about how to care for her, she is very healthy and a very happy girl!

Today we went to play at a friends house and got this great video of Joy playing fetch. That is one of Joy's favorite things to do. She can chase down a ball with the best of them.

Joy plays fetch!

Her second favorite thing is tug of war! She got to play that today with her friend Lilly. She had a great day and wanted to share it with you.

Joy is very happy that spring has finally decided to show up, it has been a very long winter and she doesn't get out much when it is so cold and snowy.

Thanks for checking out Joy and her journey!

Joy is doing very well. She has had a very busy summer. We have spent most weekends at our lake house. Joy gets to swim, play fetch and run and play with her sister Baylee! They have a lot of fun together. We take lots of walks together. We are getting ready for our walk for rescue! Joy and I will be doing this walk to help RAGOM raise money so they can help other dogs. Joy is lucky she was helped by RAGOM, if you would like to support Joy you can make a pledge at

http://goldzilla.goldzilla.dojiggy.com/joyswalking

Goldzilla Fun Fair is a big fundraiser for RAGOM. It is Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 9am-2pm. It is held at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. The day starts out with the walk for rescue and there will be lots of things for the dogs and their families to do. Joy will be at the fundraiser all day! Come out and meet her!

We have some very amazing people in our RAGOM organization! Devon does a lot of photography for our rescue group. She and I took Joy to the beach one day and she took some amazing pictures and made a beautiful video of Joy! http://youtu.be/ep4bdxSyxfM this video was posted on social media and shared all across the country in hopes that it would spark some interest in Joy so she could find her forever family. I guess it did just what it was supposed to do.! Joy has found her forever family!

All the time that Joy has been with me I would think about how and what I would post as her final update? First Joy and I would like to thank RAGOM for all that they do for so many dogs. Joy is a special needs dog and that did not stop RAGOM from stepping up to help her. WE would also like to thank all the volunteers that make RAGOM run so smoothly day by day. You have all been supportive of me and Joy. We can’t leave out the sponsors! Your donations helped pay for Joy’s medical care, supplies needed to care for her and that wonderful wheelchair! I love that saying; it takes a village, which is truly how I see RAGOM!

We had some applications come in for Joy from different states and one was all the way from New Jersey. Some were not the perfect fit; I was looking for the perfect fit for Joy. She deserves the very best! I had to take one more look at her video and then that last picture comes up and asked,

JOY IS LOOKING FOR A FAMILY

AS SPECIAL AS SHE IS

WOULDN’T YOU LIKE SOME JOY IN YOUR LIFE?

I realized I do need Joy in My life! Who knew Joy was home the whole time! I guess I did, Joy will be staying here with me and she is now a resident dog! You will still see Joy around some RAGOM events. She loves to go to meet and greets and tell her story! Her story ends with, she lived happily ever after!

Sorry it has been so long for a update on Joy. She is doing great and has been very busy this month. Now that summer is finely her we have been going to the lake and trying some new things. It amazes me how much this dog can do and she enjoys everything. We have spent a few long weekends at the cabin and we just returned from a weeks vacation. while on vacation we took Joy to the beach, we discovered that Joy loves the water so we tied a swimming noodle to her chair and took her in. I couldn't believe my eyes, this dog could swim and she really seams to love it. Here are a few pictures of her in the water!
We had a new foster dog here for three week. Brandy 13-143 and Joy got along so great! Joy loved playing with her. Brandy was a 2 month old puppy, Joy was so good with her, nonstop playing all day long, Joy is still a puppy herself and very playful.
Joy and I will be doing WALK FOR RESCUE in September, it is RAGOMS big fundraiser we would love your support, if you would like to sponsor Joy please visit her fundraising page.http://goldzilla.goldzilla.dojiggy.com/joyswalkingCome out and meet her at GOLDZILLA!

Joy had a very fun weekend at the lake. She spent a lot off time outside running with the other dogs and playing fetch! She loves to play fetch! http://youtu.be/zZymnIg2fxo
She is a wonderful little girl!

Joy will be at Chuck & Don's Highland Park Saturday, May 18th from 11am-2pm she would love to meet you. Come out and say Hi to Joy and some of the other RAGOM dog!

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Joy was a busy girl this weekend! She attended two meet and greets, one on Saturday and one on Sunday! She is my little social butterfly. She loves to meet people and to play with the other dogs. She had a fun time taking laps around the parking lot with the other dogs. Smiling the whole way and oh so happy!
http://youtu.be/wr2B3AOV55E

She is my little co-pilot, helping me navigate our way home after the meet and greet.

Joy is looking for her forever home. She will need a quieter home where someone is home most of the time. She can be left alone for awhile but a long work day would not be the best for her. Joy loves kids and does well with them, she can be a little pushy so maybe a toddler in her forever home would not be good. She is very young and is still a playful puppy. If you would like to meet Joy contact your placement advisor.

Joy is doing well! She has been very busy getting a lot of outside time learning how to use her chair. She has mastered it pretty quickly. Joy loves to play fetch, here is a video of her! http://youtu.be/vyuJC_Cbs7A Now that the weather is getting a bit warmer we will be getting out for regular walks. The sidewalks are finely cleared off. Joy also likes to play tug of war with her foster sister Baylee or with foster mom or dad or anyone who will play! She has a jaw that locks down tight and she does not let go. She will let Baylee drag her all around the kitchen and she will not let go. If we are watching TV she will take a toy and set it in our lap. The minute we move our hand to get it she will grab it and pull, she will do this over and over. the picture of the dogs playing tug of war are Joy, Baylee and Ruby 12-416. Ruby came to visit one day, they had a good time.

Joy is looking for her forever home. She is very easy to care for and once we got a routine down things have been going very smoothing. she has very good house manners, no chewing things she shouldn't. She likes to play but also likes to lay on her bed and chew a toy or take a nap. She just likes to be by her family. If you are thinking of meeting Joy don't let the diaper scare you off, it if very easy and with keeping her on a routine she is very predictable about when it is time for her to go. I would be happy to talk to anyone who would like more information on her personal care. It really is very easy and she is leek free from making messes about 99.9% of the time. All Joy needs in her forever home is someone willing to care for her, love her and not work long hours. Joy can be left home for a few hours at a time. She doesn't need a fenced in yard. She doesn't need another dog in her forever home. She likes to play with dogs so a play date once in a while would be nice.

Joy will be at Chuck and Dons in Edina on Sunday April 14th at 12:30 - 2:30!

Joy is doing great! She wanted to thank everyone for the donations. She just received her new wheelchair on Wednesday. Her chair fits her very well. It has a strap for her middle, we can wrap it around her and it holds her back a bit straighter. She has been for a few short walks so she can get use to it. She is liking all the outside time. We are hoping the snow will be gone soon. She likes to run too, boy can she go!

Jane, You have a heart of GOLD. Thank you for all you have done over the years. I know there have been many tears along with the rewards. It takes a truly compassionate person to do what you have done. You have given all of us, people and dogs, such an incredible gift. Bless you! Joy had another great weekend at the meet and greet. She has some wonderful fans out there. We have to say Thank You Bob and Peggy for decorating Joy's page with Valentine’s. It was nice to meet you. Joy wanted me to tell you, thanks for the treats! We would also like to thank Gene and Judy. You have been just wonderful to Joy and to Foster Mom, Thank You so much.

Joy continues to do well. She is over her urinary tract infection. We will recheck that in a few weeks if it is still clear she can go three months until we check again. Other than checking that every few months she is very health.

Joy will be getting a new wheelchair! The one that she has is too big for her and doesn’t fit her very well. When we go for walks sometimes the wheel will lock up and stop spinning. If Joy is running when this happens it can cause the cart to tip over. We don’t want Joy to get hurt. Ragom has approved the purchase of a new chair for Joy! Handicappedpet.com has agreed to give us a discount. That will help with keeping the cost down, if you would like to help Joy get some new wheels we would be very grateful.Thank you so much for all the support you the Ragom fans give us. We get the chance to care for such wonderful dogs because of you and your support.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Someone has a birthday to celebrate! That’s right Joy is one and we would like everyone to wish her a Happy Birthday! She will be at the petco in Brooklyn Park on Saturday from 11-2 Please come out and visit with her and the other great RAGOM dogs. Joy is not the only one with a birthday, that’s right RAGOM turned 28 this month! So many dogs saved because of Jane and her love of Dogs!

Joy has been very busy this week, last Monday we had a vet appointment to learn more about how to care for Joy, she has a urinary tract infection. We are treating her with two different kinds of antibiotics. I also learned how to express her bladder, this is not a hard thing to do and it will help Joy get all of her urine out so she does not continue to have bladder infections. This is the main thing we have to watch for with Joy. She cannot give us sighs to tell us she has an infection so we have to check and make sure. At first we will check every few weeks if we get a negative result then we can stretch that time out. We are also putting her on a high calorie power food with no grains and low fiber. The goal of this is less food in less waste out. My goal with Joy is to make her care as easy as possible so her forever family will feel very comfortable caring for her. With that goal in mine we made the decision to have Joy’s tail removed. Her tail was the biggest problem with diapering her and also the cause of all of the leaking when she moved around. Joy sits up and drags herself around and when she would pee it would go right to the tail and come out the diaper hole. Joy was confined to the kitchen because this was a very big problem. I was cleaning the floor 4 or 5 times a day. Joy now has free roam of the house. She has been tail free for over a week and we have had no leaks at all. Joy now wears pampers pull up and a pair of suspenders I have made to work with her harness. She does just fine with this and does not mind at all. I do take Joy outside a few times a day and she is doing some of her business outside. If you are interested in Joy and have questions about her care I would be happy to answer any questions.

This weekend Joy, resident Baylee and I went to a dog birthday party. The dogs had so much fun running and playing with the 27 dogs that were there. Joy used her wheelchair and ran back and forth, she did great! Here is a video of her at the party. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKgxcGYLZ6A

Joy has been enjoying the dog bed in the living room! She also loves popcorn, this is a picture of her and Baylee waiting for the popcorn to drop.

Joy has become very easy to care for and she is a very nice dog. She will be one soon, she has some puppy energy but it doesn't last to long and then she will settle down and hang out with her people. Joy loves her people! She also likes to play with the resident dog, even if the resident doesn't want to play. Joy will nip at her feet to get her attention and then the wrestling begins. Its great to see her so happy.

Happy Valentine's Day!!! Thank you Morgan, Bailey and Cody for the Valentine and for the new bed you ordered for Joy, I'm sure she is going to love it!

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Joy has a sponsor! Joy and I would like to thank you so much for that. It was great to meet you today at Petco. Joy spent her Saturday at Petco visiting with many great people! Thank you to all the folks who came out to meet Joy and the other RAGOM dogs. We would also like to thank the nice man that gave me a gift card for Joy. How great is that, he just walks up to me and said that has to be expensive caring for Joy and hands me a gift card for Petco. Thank You!

Joy is a wonderful dog that just loved all the attention she received today. She is looking for her forever home. She would fit into almost any home. She can’t have too many steps in her home other than that she just needs someone to care for her and love her. Could that someone be you? If you would like to meet Joy please contact your placement advisor.

Joy has become very use to my home and our routine. She is a very sweet girl, she just turned 11 months old. She is very playful and just loves the other dogs here.

We had a visitor this week, one of Starr’s 12-403 puppies! Joy and Ella played with each other, they got along great. It is so fun to see her play and enjoy herself.

Joy has had her spay surgery this week. She is recovering nicely from that. We need to keep her quiet and calm for a week or so but that is not too hard, she loves being by her people. She is very content laying by my feet and chewing on a bone. She should be healed up by next weekend and I am planning on bringing her to the Burnsville PETCO for a meet and great! If you would like to meet Joy please come out and see us on Saturday February 2ND.

We would like to thank Jason, Angie, Cole, Zoe and Lady for the winter icon. Your donation is so thoughtful and we really do appreciate it. It is people like you that make it possible for RAGOM to take in dogs like Joy!
