Kara 12-241

Profile

Kara came in from a breeder in the Rochester area on June 29, with her sister Tasha and has been with us since than. Kara is nothing like her sister, they are total opposites. Kara wants no human touch, very picky about eating, still not sure about door ways, steps on the deck, car doors and rides in the car are very overwhelming. I have let Kara take her time to try to get used to being inside a home and all the activities that a home involves, and she seems to be adjusting. But it is very slow moving. Kara is about 6 yrs old, she has been vetted and of course she has ear issues and parasites, full of mattes and she needed a bath badly, she is weighing in at 103lbs, I have my work cut out for me. Kara does not like to be attached to her leash and at this point walks are out of the question. As Kara's breeding years are done she is being spayed on Thursday this week. She does know what water is and loves to lay in the doggie pool, but I need to be careful of hot spots starting as she is never completely dry when we go back into the house and will not let me dry her off with a towel. Kara has not had any accidents in the house at all. The 1st time that I had to kennel her she was determined she was not going in and treats do not work at all. As of now she has gotten very used to her kennel, actually its her favorite place to be if the door is open.

My heart goes out to Kara she still does not know what a kind loving hand is and this just breaks my heart. She will not play of course with my resident dogs, but in time I hope she will learn. We are making some very small baby steps, but Kara is work in process. She will not be at any events for sometime as she needs to become much more confident and learn that touch does not hurt.

The pictures below are all that I could get of her other than in her kennel, which she now loves.

Kara's forever home will need: another confident dog to continue to show her the way of life for a loved house dog, no children under 10yrs of age (noise issue with very young children), and she needs a fenced yard.

More to come on Kara and pray that she learns what love is; foster mom, resident pets Missy and Ali.

Oct 13, 2013 was gotcha day and Oct 3, 2018 was when we had to say goodbye. Kara was still a scared girl when we got her but she blossomed into a wonderful attention seeking lovebug.

She bonded almost immediately with our other puppy mill rescue Standard Poodle Keefer. They shared many of the same fears: thunder, loud noises, sudden movement, etc. But after Keefer died, Kara really came into her own.

She relished being the ONLY dog who got all the attention. Everyone who met or knew her said she was the sweetest girl ever.

Two years ago she was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma and was given maybe 6 months to live. Then a year ago she had a melanoma removed from her mouth. She received the melanoma vaccine and was doing really well until just 3 weeks ago. Kara had metastatic disease to lungs, liver, and spleen. She became weak and refused to eat and so we made the difficult decision to say goodbye.

RAGOM provided us with a wonderful girl and she will be sorely missed.

Yesterday Kara was at the meet and greet in Roseville and met lots of people and other dogs and enjoyed every minute, but one young man stands out and he stooped and put his face in front of Kara waiting for her to kiss him.  Little did he know that Kara is not a kissy kind of girl.  But someone was able to get a photo of this moment and it was perfect.  Kara mom's big foster baby.  :)

Finally pictures!!  Kara is moving along she does love her pets and loving, but they are always on her terms.  Which I'm fine with this, she needs to learn that trust & love are a very wonderful thing and she is learning this.  And no human hand, foot or boot will ever hurt her again.  Not knowing what went on at the PM where she came from.  Kara is making great strides, everyday is something new or silly with her.  It's actually a surprise that I'm getting this update done, as she keeps wanting my right hand & arm to love her.

We have not been into the vet for a weight check and she is due, maybe next Saturday.  She is slimming down quite nicely, with her large red head she is gorgeous and she has a beautiful bone stuctrue which carries her like a queen.  Only a FM would say these words and everyone of them with love.
